Binghamton beat the Erie SeaWolves, 7-6, in game one. The B-Mets scored before the fifth inning for the first time this season. Aderlin Rodriguez hit his third grand slam of his career, while Gavin Cecchini hit his first homer of the season. T.J. Rivera chipped in with the first three-hit game of the season for a B-Met. Chase Huchingson got his first win of the year in relief, while Jon Velasquez shut the door for his second save. The offense disappeared in game two, as the SeaWolves walked off with a 2-1 win. Seth Lugo pitched six shutout innings in his first start of the season, striking out six. Brandon Nimmo added his second home run of the season, both coming in the last three games. Dario Alvarez took the loss, as he allowed two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the blown save. James Robbins delivered the walk-off single with two outs in the frame. BINGHAMTON STARTERS: RHP Matt Koch makes his second start of the season, after getting the nod on Opening Day. The righty went 4.2 innings in his first start, allowing three runs on seven hits in the B-Mets 14-5 loss at Akron. Koch took a no-decision, as he struck out two and walked none. Koch spent all of 2014 with St. Lucie, going 10-4 with a 4.64 ERA in 22 starts. The 24 year-old was drafted by the Mets in the third round of the 2012 draft, out of the University of Louisville. ERIE STARTERS: RHP Derek Hankins makes his second start of the season, after pitching on opening day as well. The 31 year-old took the loss, allowing four runs, one earned, and six hits in five innings pitched against Trenton. The start came at Jerry Uht Park, in Erie s 15-2 loss. The righty made three starts with Erie in 2013. He spent last season with Toledo (Triple-A). The Illinois native had a 6.23 ERA in five April starts. Hankins was drafted by Detroit in the 10 th round of the 2004 draft, out of the University of Memphis. ENCORE: Binghamton was 5-7 last season in games following a doubleheader, including 3-7 in their last 10. The B- Mets ERA in those games was 4.62, compared to 3.78 in the other 130 contests. The B-Mets went 2-2 vs. Erie in games following a doubleheader, including in their only game in that situation at Jerry Uht Park. CHICKS DIG THE LONG BALL: Dean Green s home run in the seventh inning of game two Tuesday, was the first homer allowed by the B-Mets pitching staff in nine games, dating back to last season. That s the longest streak since July 30-August 8, 2013, when the drought reached 10 games. Binghamton allowed a home run in each of the first three games of the 2014 season. He is the only B-Met to have a hit in all five games played. It s his longest hitting streak to start a season since a 13 game streak in 2012. FIRST FOUR: Aderlin Rodriguez s grand slam in the first inning of game one Tuesday provided Binghamton with their first runs of the season before the fifth inning of a game. Matt Harvey allowed three earned runs in five innings for his second win of the year. Daniel Murphy hit his first home run of the season. Las Vegas lost 3-2 in Sacramento Tuesday night. Steven Matz took the loss, allowing three runs in five innings. He surrendered five hits, five walks and struck out five. The 51 s had just five hits. The Mets lost 1-0 against the Manatees Tuesday night in Brevard County. St. Lucie managed just two hits. Bobby Parnell and Vic Black each pitched an inning on rehab. Black allowed the game s only run. The Sand Gnats were shutout Tuesday night, 2-0, at the hands of the Rome Braves. Savannah had just four hits in the game. The lone Braves runs came in the first inning. The Cyclones will open their season on June 19 on the road against the Staten Island Yankees.
