CP Motion Offense CB s C oaching Education and Development Concepts 1. Global basketball - play all positions and learn many different ways to execute a skill. 2. Learn to make decisions. 3. Whole - part - whole 4. Must be able to SHOOT. The majority of time in practice needs to be spent on this skill. The ability of all players to step away from the basket and shoot is the key to success on offense. Step 1 (explain, diagram, ask to explain back, ask why these position) Start in transition - run in from half. (No ball) First player goes to front to of the rim Fill the corners Fill the guard spots at the top Step 2 Same as step 1 only add the ball. The player with the ball ends up in one of the two guard spots.

Step 3 Player one pass away move to get open. On a pass, contact cut to the rim. Seal your defender. Other players fill the spot someone just left. Games approach Play 5 on 5 with these rules: Only person who can score is the player making the cut. No dribbling once the ball is passed after crossing half. Whole first - want to sell players on spacing and cutting now can move into break down drills Getting open Guided Defense Teach two reads to begin a) Defense deny with hand b) Deny with elbow Wing runs at the ball. Read the defense. Hand in passing lane - not denied - keep going Elbow in passing lane - denied - back door Pass away from the defense No dancing - creates confusion Cut close to the shoulder of the defense. Two hard steps to the ball Stay on offense three times then switch 5

3rd option Sagging defense Cut in front to the basket 4th option Star move or you need a wing entry If you must get the ball. Split the feet, lock down the defender, pop to the wing to receive the pass. Do not extend forearm. Referees look for this call. Many defenders are great play actors. Weak side cut to get open If the defense is below the fouline extended the rule is to go to the three-point line at the top. If the defender is high, make contact and read. Read Hand deny, go to the top. Elbow deny, go backdoor. Key On the backdoor cut, step into the shoulder box out and then cut.

Backdoor cuts After a backdoor cut never return on the same plane. Post first. When you post get the paint. Too many players stop at the block. GO TO THE NET. Then read. If you move to space go to the corner. It allows for penetration. Now return to playing 5 on 5 can score off the backdoor also. Pool passes or hockey assists Banking the ball or making a pass through someone else. Who has the best pass to hit the cutter? 4 on 1 Guard makes the pass to the wing and makes a contact cut to the rim. The other players fill the spots. Read The wing must read who has the best pass into the posted player.

4 on 2 Guard to guard give and go. Start by dribbling away from the other guard. This forces the defense to move to the outside. Pass and cut into the shoulder of the defender. If 1 is not open 2 fills the guard spot and 5 makes the pass to 1 through 2. 1 must hold his/her contact.

Guard to forward skip pass On the dribble if X4 sags to help look for the skip pass. 2 now makes the give and go cut because X2 is out of position. Key Cut into the body of the defender Time your cut 1 replaces 2 Pool pass If X2 fronted 5, 4 makes the pool pass back to 1 who makes the "pool pass" into 5 or skip it to 2.

2 on 4 continuous 1 and 2 attack X1 and X2. 3 and 4 are used to help make the pool passes. X1 and X2 will become the next offensive players attacking X3 and X4 at the other end of the floor. 3 and 4 become defense, 1 and 2 fill the corners. Now play 4 on 4 Mix up the defense a) sag b) aggressive Top Penetration Guard penetrates the wing rotates behind. X1 passes the ball to 1 takes one step then recovers. 1 penetrates and reads X2. Helps pass, no help drive.

Top Penetration with a post If a post is present now the guard must also read the posts defenders help. The coach can guide the defense in playing different ways. Baseline penetration Do not pick up the ball Pull back dribble to: a) create a passing angle b) attack again c) step back shot d) attack the middle

Drift pass The depth of the penetration determines the depth of the drift player. Keep on the proper angle Deep penetration - deep drift Shallow penetration - stay on the wing
