Speaking of which, effective January 1st of this year, lead sinkers one ounce or smaller are no longer legal in Massachusetts. Hunting and sporting licenses must now be obtained online. Here is the web link to get your license on line: http:// www.mass.gov/dfwele/ Some shops and town halls can help you with this if you do not have internet access at home. I have an important request of all the members. The club needs your support, and you can do this in a number of ways. You can volunteer to help work on many of the projects that need to get done around the club. You can also join a committee there are still many openings. Volunteers are always needed to help organize and run events, and everyone can help recruit new members. We all need to pitch in and do our part. Remember, this is your club. Thank you, Bill Potter Brian Campbell, welcome home from Iraq! Thank you for your service to our country! Thank you, Chris Weinbeck, for adding the handrails to the front steps of the clubhouse. Jim and Carol Martin, thanks for donating all the Beanie Babies and raising $150 for the club! Thanks, Tim Beausoleil, for replacing all the lighting in the indoor pistol range. Thank you Alan Anganes, for repairing the Reznor.

CLUB CALENDAR Page 2 The next general meeting will be Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Club t-shirts and hats will be on sale at the meeting. NRA COURSES The Lowell Sportsmen s Club continues to offer NRA certified courses and is currently scheduling classes. All revenue generated goes to the club, and these classes serve as an excellent recruiting source for new members. COURSE SCHEDULE 2012: BASIC PISTOL Basic Pistol classes consist of one Saturday, 8:00am-4:30 pm. All course materials, firearms, and ammunition are included. $120 for non-members, $100 for members. Class dates: March 17, April 14, May 12, and June 16, 2012. LSC RANGE SAFETY COURSE This is a requirement of the LSC for any member who wishes to use the indoor pistol range or the outdoor big bore range without having a qualified range safety officer present. It is strongly suggested that each member take this course. There is a take home textbook and a multiple choice test which is reviewed by a club instructor in an informal setting. This course is free to all club members. NRA RANGE SAFETY OFFICER COURSE Next Class Scheduled: June 2, 2012 cost : $50.00 members and $65.00 non-members. There are also additional fees applicants will have to pay to the NRA to complete the RSO certification process. Successful completion of this class qualifies attendees to apply for certification from the NRA as a Range Safety Officer. For more info, please call Bill Potter at 978-360-5921 Or send email to: brooktroutbill@yahoo.com VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for LOW HOUSE RENOVATION The club will be looking for volunteers this spring to help rebuild the low house on the skeet field. The club has been recommended for another grant by the Pitman-Roberts Act to fund the project. Last spring s project of rebuilding the high house was a fantastic success and positions the Lowell Sportsmen s Club as one of the best skeet facilities in the area. The high house renovation was completed in six weeks with the help of thirty people. The low house renovation will only improve on what is already first class skeet field. The grant will allow us to rebuild the low house, replace the shooting stations with new concrete, and buy a new skeet machine. Most of our out of pocket expense will be the donated labor from club members. Please consider helping with this important project. For more information please call Tim Beausoleil at 978-866-0261 LOOKING for CERTIFIED HUNTER ED INSTRUCTORS The club is looking for certified Hunter s Ed instructors who would be willing to run a class this year. There is a great demand for the classes in the local area. It would be a great way to introduce people to the club and possibly recruit members. The class would also be supporting the hunting and shooting sports which is always a good thing in this political climate and also part of our club s charter. If anyone is interested in teaching or assisting with a class, please contact President Bill Potter, or Vice President Alan Anganes.

INDOOR FUN The Indoor Archery season is underway. The range is open on Thursdays at 6 pm. All age groups and non-members are welcome. The club has a few bows available for use.
