O Keefe, who is a cardiologist at St. Luke s Mid America Heart Institute, Kansas City, Missouri, and coauthor of a study published in the mayo Clinic Proceedings. Recent study: While people who regularly run on a treadmill or use a stationary bike at the gym live just 1.5 years longer than people who don t exercise, playing soccer adds nearly five years and playing tennis adds 10 years. It s socialization, not duration of activity, that seems to enhance the benefits of physical activity. All the more reason you should get out and Walk the golf course. Just playing tennis with your friends is great or do one of the Cardio classes. Walking is on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:30 am and Cardio Tennis is on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 9:00 am. It is always a lot more enjoyable when you do it with friends.

CLUBHOUSE NEWS & EVENTS FROM THE MANAGER Mark Grisham General Manager The charm of an older club is sometimes offset by the need of maintenance and replacement of infrastructure. During the first of the year I had a chance to do a detailed inspection of areas of the Club that will need some attention in the near and distant future. We all know that over time all things wear out: new tires for the car, refrigerator quit working, bigger TV for the living room, new roof on the house and at almost 60 years old you can imagine that there should be a few aches and pains here at the Club. I am in the process of completing a 5 10 25 year plan with estimated costs involved to complete and will hopefully have to your Board of Directors first of February. With proper care and forward planning we hope that the members experience will be enhanced. I also had the opportunity to sit down with Jim Edwards and go over the social events for 2019 and I am very excited to see some of his new ideas. Among these events to watch out for are T.P. Supper Club, Thursday Night Listening Room, and a Progressive Dinner on the grounds. We are also going to forget about this cold and rainy weather and have a club wide weekend party. This will kick off the Summer Season Launch Party in April featuring 2 days of parties, games, golf, music, and dancing so keep an eye out for this fun filled weekend. As always if there is anything I can do to help you enjoy your club, please don t hesitate to ask. PA R A D E O F L I G H T S SUPERINTENDENT S REPORT SANTA Glen Junkin, GCS Golf Course Superintendent February and March are the months where we are trying to prepare our turf for the upcoming growing season. This year we are planning to drill and fill the greens the week of February 26th. This is a process where a machine with actual drill bits, drills into the surface of the green removing the existing material and replaces it with new fresh sand. This process is done to help with the surface drainage of the green. This past year was one of the wettest years on record and it caused us some problems with our Bentgrass greens. When you have a lot of rain and high temperatures it will cause disease issues with your bentgrass greens if they don t drain as well as they should. Therefore, we are going to aerify a little more intensely during the spring this year. This is in hopes of keeping the soil profile dryer during rainy periods of the year. Depending on which herbicide you use, February and March can also be a great time to put down a pre-emerge for your summer weeds. This year we used a Ronstar/Roundup combination that can be applied in January to pre-emerge, but also take care of unwanted weeds that may have germinated during the fall. Overall the golf course is very clean this year and we are excited about the upcoming golfing season.

S A N TA B R U N C H FROM THE BRIDGE Harold Kimbrough Commodore Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years Holiday. Winter has not been too bad so far and we are looking forward to Spring. Our hope is that we will have a GREAT season of boating and club events for all. The next major event will be our Commodore's Ball on March 9, 2019. This is a great time to be enjoyed by all Turtle Point members: the kitchen turns out one of the best dinners you will have, the entertainment and dancing will be a lot of fun. The Summer Season Launch Party will be our next event April 12/13, 2019 and we will pass along more information as time gets near (see page 2 for details). One little detail I will let out is a trip to the Rattle Snake Saloon! The boater group at Turtle Point is like an extended family to Debra and myself and we would like to see more members that may or may not be boaters come and join us for events at the Quarter Deck! We have made so many life time friends at Turtle Point that we would not have ever met had we not been members here, most especially John and Jane Moody who Debra and myself hold very special to us. This will be my last letter to you as Commodore as my two years is coming to a close, I want to thank the Bridge for some great times, the Board for always helping with projects along the way and Mark and all the club staff for always providing all of the members and guests an experience they will always remember. In closing I want everyone to welcome Dr Rob Webb as the incoming Commodore and I want to thank Rob for all the work he put in during my time as Commodore. We now have a few slips that are open, if you are in need of one contact the TP office.
