Different tasks will need to be performed by the teams and the top overall teams will be awarded some fun prizes. This is open to all, not just 4-H & FFA members and families. Pre-Fair Superintendent Meeting All livestock superintendents are invited to attend the Pre-Fair Stall Assignment Meeting to work on exhibitor counts and stall assignments for the fair. This meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:00 PM in the DAV Building at the Fairgrounds. Other superintendents may attend if they have questions about the fair Amy & Jessie will be present to answer questions. Exhibit Building Clean-up & Set-up We will clean the Exhibit Hall and 4-H Building on Thursday, July 12 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Please note this change The Teen Council will set up club booths from 5:00-6:00 PM in the Exhibit Hall. Clubs are invited to come in between 6:00-7:00 to decorate, if they so choose. We have had quite a bit of confusion with set-up the past couple of years and have decided to go back to having the Teen Council set everything up in advance. We ask that clubs DO NOT move booths once they are set up. We will not hold a fair decorations contest again this year, so please be sure there is plenty of display space for the 4-H ers exhibits. Clubs are not required to come in prior to the fair. Clubs may decorate their booths during exhibit judging on Monday, July 16 and must be ready for display by 8:00 AM on Tuesday, July 17. Anyone that is interested in helping our staff set up the photo and horticulture displays in the 4-H Building can stop by the 4-H Building from Noon-1:00 PM on Thursday, July 12. 4th Grade Exhibit Judging 4th graders will report to one judge to have all of their nonlivestock exhibits judged at the fair, with the exception of Photography, Ag & Natural Resources, and Science, Engineering, Technology, & Mechanics, which will be judged in the 4-H Building (where the 4-H Office is located). For all other exhibits, we will have one judge available for educating youth, evaluating exhibits, and selecting 4th Grade Special Exhibits to go into the Outstanding 4th Grade Exhibits Booth in the Exhibit Hall. Judging will take place on Monday, July 16 at the time specified for your club (see pg. 6 of this newsletter). 4th graders will not go to any other judges, except for the exhibit areas listed above. Outstanding 4th Grade exhibits are those that would be state fair considered, if the 4-H er were eligible. Currently, state fair eligibility does not start until the youth have completed 5th grade. 7

4-H Livestock Rules (4H 202) If you plan to exhibit livestock at the county or state fair in 2018, please read the 4H 202 document very thoroughly. The 4H 202 can be found at https://store.extension.iastate.edu/ Product/194. It includes important information for each species, including identification requirements. It is the responsibility of the 4-H family to read these requirements and abide by the rules set by the county and state 4-H program. Livestock Judging Contest The Livestock Judging Contest will be held on Friday, July 20 in the Pavilion. Registration will be from 1:30-2:00 PM and the contest will begin at 2:00 PM. This contest is open to anyone. There will be divisions for 4-H, FFA, & Open. Teams will be made up of 3-4 individuals from the same club or chapter. Youth teams will be divided into 4-H Junior, 4-H Intermediate, 4-H Senior, and FFA. Full details can be found on page 25 of the 4-H & FFA Fair Rule Booklet. YQCA for Livestock Exhibitors Mahaska County is no longer offering FSQA (Food Safety & Quality Assurance). Those who took the FSQA test and are certified through 2018 will not be required to complete YQCA. YQCA is required for Mahaska County 4-H & FFA members who plan to exhibit Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep, Beef, Dairy, Swine, & Meat Goat (excludes bucket/ bottle) at the county/state fair. YQCA certification is designed to be useful and help prepare you for your show but also prepare you as a young producer in the animal agriculture industry. That s why the program includes information on multiple species even though you may only be raising one or two we hope you see that by raising animals you are part of a larger community that relies on the good faith of everyone doing their part. YQCA Training is required each year for those who will exhibit at the county and/or state fair and costs $12.00 per year. If you would like to receive financial assistance, please contact the Extension office. We have limited funds available. If applying for financial assistance, a coupon code will be provided to you by the Extension office. You will use your 4hOnline credentials to log in to YQCA. Please have those credentials, along with a credit card, available when you prepare to complete the YQCA training online: https://yqca.learngrow.io/account/login. We are learning that it takes about 1 hour to complete the YQCA training online. If you run into any complications, please try a different browser. The system is most compatible with Firefox and Chrome. Training can be completed at the Extension office by appointment only. Call 641-673-5841 or email vermeera@iastate.edu to schedule an appointment. We are not offering a FSQA test-out option this year. YQCA is currently working on a test-out option for members, which should be available for the 2018-19 4-H year. All Mahaska County 4-H & FFA members must complete the training in 2018, unless currently certified for the FSQA test (2018 only). YQCA MUST BE COMPLETED BY JULY 1, 2018. 11
