Brooke V.C. C. of E. Primary School Spring Term; Issue 20 February 10th 2017 The Last Brooke Report of this half-term E-safety day I wonder how many ways each day we depend on the internet. When my phone plays a song to wake me up at 5:30 each morning and I check to see what the weather will do, as my sat-nav lets me know of any traffic congestion on the way to school and I get a message from Fit-Bit congratulating me on reaching my step goal for the day I have already used it several times before I have really started the day. The web can be so useful and can bring about such positive outcomes that we need to embrace the possibilities. But, and there s always a but, there are risks attached. Swallow Class spent Tuesday looking at the potential dangers of the internet and, using material from the UK Safer Internet Centre to lead a wonderful assembly explaining the right way to treat your own personal information and how to stay safe online. It also talked about the use and abuse of other people s images and how much care we need to use in putting pictures onto social media sites. Interestingly the BBC website also has an article about internet safety, I have copied the link here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z3b6y4j And then If you can t beat them Under the expert photographic skills of Jeremy Chaplin our Chair of Governors, all who wanted to were given a chance to don a wig, grow a moustache, wear starshaped specs or just strike a pose in our pop-up photo booth. So have a look, and a good laugh at the pictures inside and let s make sure we all stay safe online.

County Cross Country Finals nce more our runners excelled as O all the training and dedication showed through in the County Finals. Seven of our students had progressed from the School trials, through the Cluster competition at Framingham Earl High School and the South Norfolk team trials at a very wet and slippery Fritton Lake to have the honour of racing with the best in the county at a very tricky course set by Greshams School in Holt. I don t know why but the weather always seems to be extremely cold and windy for the Cross Country Finals, and this year was no exception. Tess, Harry, Thomas, Adam, Joe, William and Jessica had all qualified for their respective races. There were 80 children in each race; the best of all the runners in Norfolk. Results Y3 Girls Jess Sanders 57th Y4 Boys Will Panter 31st Y5 Boys Joe Allcock 23rd Adam Robson 4th Thomas Robson 12th Y6 Girls Tess Andrews 1st Y6 Boys Harry Smith 13th Well done to everyone who has taken part in cross country this year. And a great thank you to all who have helped in any way, it s been a great season. Area Basketball Finals n Wednesday afternoon our basketball team, O Jacob, Georgie, Brandon, Adam, Toby, Cameron, Thomas and Greg represented the school at Framingham Earl High School for the Area Finals. This was not just a cluster tournament, teams from across South Norfolk were there. They beat Wreningham 2 by 22 points to zero, and Loddon by 16 points to 2. St Mary's (last year's winners) just beat us by one basket. In the finals Brooke beat Poringland 2-0 in a super close game to finish third overall. Thank you so much to Rachel Taylor for looking after the team so well. Our least-welcome visitors are back in school. See if you can find more than 10 of them hiding in these pages while you are having your hair checked over half term

Take care Mrs Marrison W ell done for getting to the end of term Mrs Marrison. Your bump looks fantastic and I m sure you ll be very pleased when the baby is born. Please come back to see us when your new baby is settled. Thank you so much for all you do every day, have a great time being a full-time Mummy. You d better go now, before you go POP! Welcome Miss Kitchener and Mrs Kineavy o as Mrs Marrison takes a well-earned S break from the classroom I am delighted to welcome Miss Kitchener to our family to join the team in Robin Class. She will be teaching on Monday and Tuesday with Ms Oliver continuing from Wednesday to Friday. I think that with Mrs Warnes too they will make a wonderful team. Mrs Kineavy Miss Kitchener I also want to welcome Mrs Kineavy to Brooke School. She will be taking over the Teaching Assistant role for Swift class. She has huge experience in schools and will be another wonderful addition to our team. Please say Hello to our new members when you see them. I hope they will have a long, happy and satisfying time with us at Brooke School.

FOSSILS I don t know about you but I have often wondered about the film Jurassic Park and whether the science-fiction could ever become science-fact. As the classes have been studying geology this half term, Owl class has looked at fossils and how they are formed. I m not sure that Brooke is a particular hot-spot for fossil discoveries, but, if scientific theories are correct, then it is fairly certain that large beast will have roamed these parts in the millennia before we came along, so somewhere beneath our muddy fields there may still lay the petrified remains of a giant Brookosaurus. Here are the Owls making some fossils of their own. If you would like to see the finished articles they are on display in Owl class. If you can t find them Make them!

The joy of sharing a story S ometimes it s the simplest of things that bring the greatest pleasure and satisfaction. The simple joy of listening to and engaging in a story is one, I m sure we all remember from our childhoods and one we all want to pass on to our children. I was delighted to see how well Brandon, one of our Year 5 students took on the challenge of sharing this lovely book with Robin Class. Not only did he read with real expression and clear pronunciation so the Robins could follow it well, he drew them into the story with very professional questioning and explanations. The class were totally involved to the extent that Mrs Marrison has invited him to read to the class again. Do we have a teacher in the making? And though the book was called It could have been worse, It could not have been better!
