TEE TIMES August 2014 UPCOMING EVENTS AT CEDARHILL Message from Ownership Noel Perera TGIF ~ Think Golf it s Friday ~ Friday, August 29th Golf - Dinner - Prizes Tee Times starting at 3:45 p.m. Call the Pro Shop to reserve August 9 August 10 August 16 August 16 August 17 August 17 August 23 September 2 MARK ON YOUR CALENDAR Men s & Ladies Senior Intersectional Qualifier 1st round Men s & Ladies Senior Intersectional Qualifier 2nd round Club Championships 1st round Junior Club Championship 1st round Club Championships 2nd round Junior Club Championship 2nd round Pro/Lady Qualifier Senior Men s Intersectionals On July 20 th, the club celebrated its 50 th Anniversary. The actual Anniversary date was July 1 st but we opted to postpone the anniversary celebration in view of our historically popular Canada Day event which was again, very successful. A 50 th Anniversary for any company is a milestone achievement and this day was no exception. Patrons were treated to an antique car show, an inventory tent sale, rollback pricing on golf and food along with music throughout the day and evening. Over 300 golfers teed up for the golf component and the day was capped off with a Roast Beef Buffet attended by close to 200 club members, past members, invited guests, sponsors and members of the public. Many members of the Chiarelli family and two of our original founding members were present in the person s of Dan Bright and John Christie. The day was made possible through the participation of our many sponsors and the efforts of the organizing committee but I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, the members, for your support and participation. My wife Diane and I had an opportunity to meet with many of you and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The atmosphere was very upbeat and it appeared that all who attended shared this feeling of enjoyment. Over the past few weeks, a series of rumours have been circulating regarding the financial stability of the golf course. The reason or motivation as to why such rumours begin and continue to circulate is unknown. They are unfounded. The golf industry, in general, is facing many challenges of which I am sure many of you are aware. I can say that the club is enjoying a very strong season and with your ongoing support, will continue to prosper. Thank you and I look forward to meeting with you again at some future event. Message from the Office Greg Robertson, Operations Manager It has been brought to my attention that some members are unaware of various benefits they are entitled to as a member of Cedarhill. Our Club has four Executive Golf memberships for all members to use. If you would like to play one of the Executive Golf courses, just stop into the proshop and they will book the tee time for you. Once the tee time has been booked, you simply pay the proshop the Executive Golf fee and you re done. If you have any further questions about Executive Golf, please contact the proshop. When playing at Cedarhill, there are reduced rates for our members for carts, guest fees and 10% off all merchandise in the proshop. If you need some practice, keep in mind that Cedarhill members receive $2.00 off a bucket of balls at Kevin Haime s.

Message from our Club President Bill Gosewitz As we approach the end of July, the competitive process is in full swing and the course is in good condition. The ladies won their Intersectional matches on home turf and will move up to Division B next year and the Men finished a respectable third place at Vieux Moulins. We had a fabulous 50 th anniversary party on July 20 th with antique cars and music. It sure brought back memories. Congratulations to Kristin Ranieri who won the OVGA Women s City and District Golf Championship (shooting 78 at Smiths Falls and a 1 under 71 at Camelot ). Keep your eyes open for the Senior Intersectional qualifiers and the club championships. For the men don t forget to ask about the Cedarhill Cup and the Ladies have the Solheim Cup in September. We still have 3 good months of golf weather so enjoy and have fun. Look forward to seeing you on the course. As always if you have any comments or concerns send me an email at greygoose@rogers.com.

Message from our Club Captain Peter Finnigan The summer has certainly flown by!! It s hard to believe we are in August and have already completed more than half of this year s member tournaments. While the leagues have had a few rain-outs, the weather for most of our events has been great. And despite the technical challenges we have had in the sign-up process, event turnout has been good. Congratulations to the winners already crowned this year: Mixed Chapman Scramble Ross McEwan and Kristin Ranieri won the Mixed Chapman Trophy for low net. Steve Isaacs and Kate Burnett-Isaacs were the low gross winners. Mixed Club Championship Don and Kathy Dixon are the 2014 Mixed Club Champions. Ross McEwan and Kate Burnett-Isaacs were the low gross winners. Senior Club Championships Gary Froats won the Senior Men s Club Championship Trophy with a net of 132 Ross McEwan scored 152 to capture the Senior Men s Champion Gross Miriam O Grady won the Senior Ladies Club Championship Trophy in a playoff over Anne Queen both shot 135 net for the tournament. Joanne Gosewitz is the Senior Ladies Champion Gross, beating Sandy Finnigan in a playoff they both shot 179. On July 13 th and 14 th, our Men s and Ladies teams participated in the OVGA Intersectionals matches. Cedarhill did a fantastic job hosting the Ladies Intersectionals this year on July 14 th and our team solidly beat the ClubLinks trio of GreyHawk, Kanata and Hautes Plaines. Everyone on the team contributed to the victory. Kate Burnett-Isaacs beat her opponents on the 15 th hole, while Sandy Finnigan staged a come-from-behind rally parring the 17 th and 18 th to take her 6 points; Dawn Turner also had a dramatic comeback, going 1 over on the back and taking 5 points; Liz Curran, Sue Gillean and Kristin Ranieri all rallied and finished with 4 points each; Anne Queen split her matches and recorded 3 points, and Joanne Gosewitz won a hard fought 2 points for the team. The Ladies move up to Division B next year and will play at Rivermead. Congratulations!! The Men s team fought both difficult weather and less than perfect course conditions at Vieux Moulins on July 13 th. Our team placed third this year, beating the team from Kingsway, but behind a strong Renfrew team and host Vieux Moulins. Marty Wells and Greg Nezan took the maximum 6 points each; Adam Langis got 4 points; Ron Nezan and Dan Lwow split their matches for 3 points each; Jim Brown beat one opponent for 2 points; and Jim Brown and George Acton fought hard and earned 1 point each. Steve Isaacs and Peter Finnigan found the slow greens challenging and lost their matches. Paul Maniscalco played as alternate and our other qualifier Ross McEwan was unable to play on the 13 th. Cedarhill will be hosting Division F next year, as Vieux Moulins is unable to host. There are still a few more events coming up: The Pro-Lady Qualifier event has been rescheduled to August 23 rd and the 3 rounds of the Cedarhill Cup will be played in early September check the website for the dates. Senior Men s and Ladies Intersectional qualifier - August 9th & 10th Draw will be posted on Tuesday August 4 th. The Senior Men s team will be playing at Tecumseh on September 2 nd, and the Senior Ladies team will play at Pembroke Shores on September 15 th. Good luck to all of the competitors. Men s and Ladies Cedarhill Club Championships - August 16 th &17 th Don t forget to sign-up in the locker rooms before August 9th. This year s format is a 2-day event the 2014 winners will be determined on Sunday August 17 th. Come out and see if any of the men can out-score the Ladies Champion this year!!

MEN S NIGHT Scott Gerrard Here we are at the midway point of the golf season and for the most part, Men's Night has been blessed with great weather. There are 85 of us this year compared to 92 last year. Old rivalries continue and new ones have begun. Great to see. Weekly prize table ticket sales have been good largely in part to the efforts of the Pro Shop staff, Tom Pulcine and Gary Myers. Of course none of this would be possible without the support from sponsors and to those of you who buy tickets. Thank you everyone. Greg has updated the Men's Night portion of the website with the Men's Night Rules, Sponsor package and all of the sponsors to date. We still have open dates available for sponsors in September. If you are interested or know someone who would like to sponsor please contact myself, Steve or Jim. We haven't forgotten about the weekly skins and by the time this gets published we hope to have this reinstated. Friendly competition makes the Thursday night round all that more enjoyable for everyone. There is still plenty of golf left. Please remember that as the days get shorter, the rounds shouldn't get longer. Pace of play works for everyone. Cheers - Scott, Steve and Jim SENIOR MEN Rene Douville The Seniors 2014 season is progressing well with few rain outs. Unfortunately, attendance has been plagued by the absence of ill or injured players. This month, it appears we are stabilizing to a better number. We have 6 teams of 5 or 6 persons per team with Team #1 led by Bob Nugent currently in the lead followed closely by teams 6 and 5 led by yours truly and by Al Brown. Steve Stefanison leads the points race and has stubbornly hung on to it for several weeks. Our first Beat the Pro Day was held May 15th and fortunately for the juniors and unfortunately for the seniors, no one beat the pros that round. The second round with the pros will be held on July 24 and under great pressure, the pros have agreed to a more generous percentage of handicaps to be allowed for each senior. Our thanks to the pros for also sponsoring this day. June 12 th was our annual Member/Guest day and with the support of the Cedarhill Management, we broke the record for number of guests. We have already held 2 away days at Emerald Links in June organized by Frank Campbell and this month in Smith s Falls organized by Jim Taggart. Our thanks to them both. In August we are expecting to go to Prescott organized by Paul Legendre and in September Equinelle organized by Mike Calcutt. August 2014

LADIES NIGHT Heather Fosbery We are halfway through the golf season! It's hard to believe and battled some difficult weather! We have one final round in our Business Ladies' Cup on August 19 (you must play all three rounds to qualify). Team Golf, Ringer Board, Chip In's & Birdie competitions are well under way. All winners to be announced at our Closing Dinner in October. The Ladies' Member / Guest was a great success! The weather cooperated just in time thankfully. Thank you to all our amazing sponsors and Cedarhill & Staff for their contributions. Thank you to the committee & volunteers for their help. Congratulations to Susan Gillean, Roxanne Gagne, Carol Ann Graves & Maribeth O'Meara, our overall winners (plus Sue & Roxanne won Best Dressed). Karen Acton & Kelly Bergeron-Wattie had the best decorated cart. All information is available on the Ladies Night Section of the website including our sponsors as well as pictures soon to come! A big congratulations to Wendy Bell for her Hole in One on #5 during Member / Guest It was an amazing event to witness! A true sport gratuitously splitting the cost of wine for the evening thank you again Wendy! Yet another big Congratulations to our own Kristin Ranieri for winning the City & District Competition, way to go! Happy Golfing! DAY LADIES Liz Curran Congratulations to our own Miriam O Grady for winning the Ladies Senior Club Championship and congratulations to Joanne Gosewitz for winning the low gross. Way to play ladies. We ve had a few rainy Tuesdays to contend with this year but our spirits are not dampened. Davis Cup playoffs and handicap matches are still being played, weather and schedules permitting. As an added feature this year, we will be inviting potential members out for a Tuesday morning golf day and lunch during August at a special fee, so if you know someone who might like to join us, please let me or Greg Robertson know. I was recently asked a question on the rules regarding entering a score for a partial game played. Here is what I found: If 13 or more holes are played, the player must post an 18 hole score. If 7 12 holes are played, the player would post a 9 hole score. In either case, scores for unplayed holes must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes. August is almost upon us as I write this. The course is in great shape. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday now that my road trip is finished.
