The tournament fee will be $375.00 per team and can be made payable to "" and noted Attn: Jr Boys Basketball Vancouver Island Championships. All games will be played at in the New Gym. Please see the following attached for the tournament draw and schedule. The following lists the team seeding: North Central South (N1) GP Vanier Secondary (C1) Shawnigan Lake (S1) Claremont Secondary (N2) Ladysmith Secondary (C2) Brentwood College (S2) Oak Bay Secondary (N3) Dover Bay Secondary (S3) St. Michael s University (N4) Nanaimo Secondary (S4) Belmont Secondary ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT RULES AND GUIDELINES: 1) FIBA rules with the BC Boys Basketball High School modifications will be used for all games. 2) Referees will be provided for all games through the Victoria Basketball Officials Association (VBOA). Please note that the VBOA charges an additional travel fee for games played outside of the Greater Victoria area and this has been taken into consideration in the tournament fee. 3) Three-minute overtime periods will be played until any ties are broken. 4) All teams MUST bring their own warm-up balls to the gym; the length of pregame warm-ups may be reduced depending on the schedule but will be no less than 10 minutes. All half-times will be a maximum of eight (8) minutes long unless coaches agree otherwise. 5) Teams with a higher seed will be considered the Home team and will sit to the right of the Scorer s table. In the event that both teams have the same seed, then the Central (then North) will be considered the Home team. Home team will wear light colours. 6) Please arrive at the gym at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled starting time.
ADMISSION & CONCESSION Admission to the Vancouver Island Championship Tournament will be accepted by donation with the proceeds contributing to the EDGE Zimbabwe Program. The EDGE Program challenges young leaders to provide a valuable service in the developing world. Please note, coaches, players, officials and students are not obligated to admission. A Concession stand will be available throughout the duration of the tournament with all net proceeds contributing to the EDGE Zimbabwe initiative. HOSPITALITY ROOM for COACHES & OFFICIALS A Hospitality Room will be available throughout the tournament and will be located in the New Gym across from the Home bench area. An assortment of refreshments and snacks will be provided for Coaches and Officials only, please. COACH S MEETING The Coach s Meeting will be held on Saturday, Feb 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Location will be confirmed and provided for you. An agenda will be formed prior to the start of the meeting, however, any items wishing to be discussed may be forwarded in advance to jlam@shawnigan.ca FIRST AID & ATHLETIC THERAPY At the Vancouver Island Championships, there will be an athletic therapist on site for pregame taping (please provide your own team tape) and first-aid in the event of an injury. MINOR OFFICIALS & GAME DIRECTOR Minor Officials are a team of dedicated student volunteers from who have been formally trained and have score-keeping experience. We ask that all coaches, players and team officials maintain a respecful decorum among our Minor Officials. Any concerns and discrepencies should be directed to the Game Director who will, in collaboraton with the referees, resolve all concerns. A Game Director will be present at each game and will support the Minor Officials crew. AWARDS & PRIZES At the conclusion of each game, the Game Director will provide both teams with a "Player of the Game" shirt and a POG form. The shirt will be awarded to a player by his own coach and then recorded on the POG form along with the jersey number of a selected POG from the opposing team. Keeper plaques will be awarded to all participating teams with the tournament champions receiving the perpetual trophy. A Five (5) Player All-Star Team of the tournament will be selected by the Tournament All- Star Committee.
