Please call our office if you have any questions and watch for announcements/memos/ newsletters on 4-H Online. County Fair Clean Up Four clubs are asked to help prepare for the Brown County Fair. The clean-up dates are Wednesday, August 7, 2013 and Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 9:30-11:30 am at the Fairgrounds. Two clubs are needed each day. Club members and adults are asked to bring buckets and rags. If your club is interested, please call the 4-H Office. State Fair Helpers We are looking for some assistance in recording and displaying exhibits at the South Dakota State Fair on the day which exhibits are judged. We will need help on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. Please call the 4-H Office at 605-626-7120 if you are an adult or junior leader age member and are interested in helping. Special Foods Contest The Special Foods Contest is scheduled for the morning of June 19, 2013 at Simmons Middle School. Registration for the Special Foods Contest is due June 7, 2013. Registration forms and other contest information are included with this Newshound and can also be found on 4-H Online. Fashion Revue ~ Public Revue Fashion Revue Registration is due by noon on July 1, 2013. The contest is scheduled for July 17, 2013 at Primrose Retirement Community. A Public Review will follow morning judging. Seniors, please see the State Fair Book for a lot of award categories. The lots include a selected outfit! Check us out on Facebook! We just got out page up and going so make sure you Like us! Does It Fit The Lot? As members are competing their exhibits and entry cards, please review the lot criteria before bringing the project to the Brown County Fair. There have been several changes and some additions in the last year for some lots. These changes are outlined in the lot entry guidelines in the 2013 State Fair Book. Copies of the book will be distributed to the club leaders to be given out to members. Judging Guides There is a number of judging guides in the office which may help members as they complete their projects for their exhibit judging. People interested in any of these standards may stop in to review them. Members may also refer to score cards previously used. Crop Sheaves The crop sheaves project will be judged at the Brown County Fair only. Please refer to the Brown County Fair book for judging times and lot numbers Open Class Home Arts Entries For those that exhibit in the Brown County Fair Open Class Home Arts Division, exhibits will be entered on the evening of Monday, August 12, 2013. The lots and entry times will be outlined in the Home Arts Division Book, which will be distributed mid June.
Non-Livestock Judging All non-livestock exhibits will be judged between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Ode Ice Arena on the Brown County Fairgrounds. Exhibitors being interviewed may have all or a portion of their exhibits interview judged. Exhibit lot limits, unless otherwise stated in the lot criteria guidelines, are two exhibits per lot with each exhibit demonstrating a different learning experience. Exhibits will be released from the Brown County Fair on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm. Further information will be sent to families with entry materials. Judging Team Members Those being asked to participate on a judging team in the areas of Consumer Decision Making and Horticulture will be getting a letter early July asking for their intent to participate at the South Dakota State Fair. Please inform the 4-H Office as soon as possible. Those being asked to represent Brown County will be based on scores from the judging schools that were held in April, May and June. 4-H Qualification Sessions (Consumer Decision Making and Horticulture) The judging schools that are scheduled for May and June take approximately one hours. Members should plan to attend accordingly, as judging classes will not be re-displayed at a later date. Because two judging qualification sessions have been held first and second year judging members are expected to complete judging on their own. Following is a schedule of the remaining judging qualification sessions and clubs are asked to assist with tabulation. All schools will be held at the Brown County 4-H Office. Consumer Decision Making and Horticulture Schools Date: June 10, 2013 Time: 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm Date: June 24, 2013 Time: 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm
Northern Plains Livestock Day Brown County Horse Show The Brown County 4-H Horse Show will be Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Roping events will begin at 8:30 am at the Joe Akkerman Horse Arena. Registration for the Horse Show will be at the arena beginning at 8:30 am and continue until the ropers have arrived back at the arena and are registered. Just a reminder that the Northern Plains Livestock Day is June 8, 2013 and more information on the various livestock shows can be found at the 4-H Office. The Horse Show will begin at 10:30 am or once the ropers have gotten registered and are prepared for classes. Horse project members should have received entry information and forms. Entry deadline is June 10, 2013. The show judge is Teresa Vissor from Spiritwood, ND. State 4-H Dog By Debi Munger Congratulations to the eight Canine Good Citizen recipients. Good job, everyone. 4-H Dog practice will continue with rally, obedience, agility and showmanship classes beginning Wednesday June 5th from 4-6 pm. There will be no class June 12 and classes will resume on June 19, June 26 from 4-6 pm at the Warner Community Center. Contact debi@eaglepassranch.com or 380-6014 with questions. Brown County Dog School By Sheryl Erickson We start practice at the Brown County Fairgrounds on Thursday, June 6, 2013 near the sheep/swine barn for obedience, showmanship and rally. Practice will be held every Thursday evening at 6:00 pm beginning Thursday, June 6th, 2013 up until the Brown County Fair, weather permitting. Bring your 6 leash, showmanship lead, choker chain, flat collar and soft treats for your dogs. Reminder: Seminar sponsored by the Brown County 4-H Dog Project is on July 27, 2013. Professional Trainer, Missy Roland is presenting two sessions of on hands training for you and your dog. We will also be working on agility and rally! 4-H Shooting Sports The 4-H Shooting Program has experienced tremendous growth over the past year.
