Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: True Penetrometer: Nil STEWARDS REPORT Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing TYERS PARK RACECOURSE, BATHURST Saturday 17 th November 2018 STEWARDS: M.W Purse (Chairman), Miss C.K McIntosh & S.P Fitzgerald Race 1: KINGS HOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100m Great Shine- Raced keenly in the early stages. My Girl Grace- Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Supreme Express- Slow to begin. Taladora Miss- Over the final 50m had to be steadied when racing close to the heels of Matchfox and could not be fully tested by its rider. Strada Lane- After becoming fractious in the mounting yard, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. After beginning very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with Casula Lad, threw its head in the air and lost ground. The mare then continued to race somewhat ungenerously throughout the early and middle stages. Race 2: WATERMART MAIDEN PLATE 1300m Skipper Joe- When questioned regarding today s disappointing performance, rider E Webster-Hawes stated that the gelding was quite stirred up in its preliminary, however she did not express any major concerns. She said after beginning well she allowed Skipper Joe to stride forward, however when she was unable to find a position with cover, the gelding was ultimately left racing wide and without cover. She added that in the home straight, the gelding commenced to lay in quite noticeably and proved difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination of Skipper Joe revealed to be slow to recover. Trainer D Mirfin advised the gelding will now be spelled. East Esplanade- Over-raced in the early stages and was left racing wide and without cover throughout.
In Too Deep- Slow to begin. Laid in in the early part of the straight. Passing the 200m laid in and made contact with the offside running rail and became unbalanced. Delight- Raced keenly in the early stages. Was held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until the 300m. Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. Five Ayes- Commenced to hang in from the 600m and proved difficult to ride thereafter. You Know Zon- Near the 650m was steadied after laying out onto the heels of Delight. Nanga- Shortly after the start became crowded between Skipper Joe and Delight which shifted out. Race 3: KENNARDS HIRE CLASS 1 MAIDEN PLATE 2000m Chur Bro- After being slow to begin was crowded shortly after the start between Snappy Diamond and Dizzy Spell after that runner was taken out by Born to Power which shifted out. Snappy Diamond- Near the 1800m commenced to race keenly for a short distance after being crossed by Bemboka. Lingennic- Began very awkwardly and lost ground (5L). Ophaeo Rose- Approaching the 400m was disappointed for a run between Dizzy Spell and Born to Power and remained held up on the heels of Born to Power until the 250m, whereby the mare was shifted to the inside and secured clear running. Yarramin- A post-race veterinary examination of the mare that weakened after the 1000m and beaten 25.54L failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B Draper advised that the mare will now be retired. Nonetheless B Draper was advised that should the mare return to racing, it would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards. Race 4: OAK TREE RETIREMENT VILLAGE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400m Good Verdict- Slow to begin. Kind Reward- Commenced to hang out from the 600m and continued to hang out until near 350m. Dalico Gold- Was a late withdrawal at 2:22pm due to transport difficulties. Magic Ticket- Over-raced in the early and middle stages and near the 900m had to be steadied away from the heels of Red Marauder.
Prior Engagement- Passing the 900m had to be steadied from the heels of Good Verdict when that runner was checked after improving onto the heels of Stato as the tempo of the race slackened. Red Marauder- When questioned, rider A Robinson stated that the gelding commenced to weaken near the 700m and in his opinion failed to run out a strong 1400m. He further added that he felt that the gelding did not appreciate today s track condition. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Zarwrinkles- Slow to begin (3L) and lost further ground when being slow into stride. Trainer G Grimmond was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of the mare. Ravitude- Trainer N Mitchell was fined the sum of $50 LR35(2) for the late declaration of E Webster-Hawes as the rider of the gelding. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and was left racing wide and without cover throughout. Near the 350m laid in onto the heels of Kind Reward and had to be steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 5: BATHURST RSL CLUB CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1100m Manhattan Justice- Trainer G Wright was fined the sum of $50 LR35(2) for the late declaration of E Webster-Hawes as the rider of the gelding. Slow to begin. Coroglen- Approaching the 900m commenced to race keenly for a short distance after being crossed by Nino. Gorgeous Boy- Raced keenly in the early stages. Byzantium- Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with Gorgeous Boy. Northern Conqueror- Approaching the 250m was disappointed for a run between The Long Run and Byzantium which laid out under pressure and was shifted back to the inside of that runner into clear running. Tennessee Pasha- Approaching the 800m, improved on to the heels of Coroglen and was shifted to the outside, whereby the mare was obliged to race wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. Race 6: BATHURST TOYOTA BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200m Panda s Mr Nosey- Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m had to be steadied away from the heels of Mabrouk which shifted in slightly when racing keenly on the heels of Operose which shifted in slightly after racing on the heels off Wollartant (A Banks) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. A Banks was advised to exercise more care. Leap of Legend- Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
Operose- Near the 100m was steadied away from the heels of Wollartant which shifted out slightly. Mabrouk- Raced keenly in the early stages. Wollartant- Approaching the home turn was held up on the heels of Winterconi and was shifted to the outside of that runner s heels near the 300m to obtain clear running. Winterconi- Raced wide and without cover throughout. Hu Hit Hu- Approaching the home turn, was held up on the heels of Dunderry and commenced to lay in in the early part of the straight. Approaching the 300m endeavoured to improve into clear running between Dunderry and the weakening Prattler. Was then held up shortly after when disappointed for a run between Dunderry and Winterconi which shifted in and as a consequence remained held up and was unable to be fully tested over the final 150m. Over the final 50m was again disappointed for a run between Dunderry and Winterconi, obliging its rider G Ryan to check his mount, resulting in the mare being unable to be tested for the remainder of the race. General: Samples were obtained from all winners Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.
