Date of Issue September 2013 What s Inside: In the final newsletter for 2013 we wrap up how things finished for what has been a great year for the Warwick Greenwood Junior Football Club and the beginning of planning for a bigger and better 2014. Year 9 Premiership 2013 Opens Trophy Night Club Survey 2013 WGJFC Trophy Night 2013 Presidents Report Presidents Final Word 2013 Breaking News!!!!!! 2013 District Fairest and Best Y E A R 9 P R E M I E R S H I P On Sunday 15 September at Robinson Reserve Tuart Hill, the Yr 9 Warwick Greenwood Knights prevailed in a close and hard fought final beating Marist Black 7 10 (52) to 6 9 (45) to be the 2013 Yr 9 Gold Division Premiers. Match Report (Paul Clinch): In what was our hardest and most important win for the year, our boys played their hearts out to win the 2013 Year 9 Gold Grand Final. The day started with the sun shining and a strong breeze which Marist had advantage of in the first quarter. We came in at quarter time behind but confident that Marist had thrown everything at us and we had held firm. We hit the front about halfway through the second quarter due to a lot of hard work from our defence. With the defence firmly on top it was a goal for goal tussle with the boys holding a slender lead at half time and three quarter time. The sealer in the last quarter came from a very unlikely source in James Morgan who grab the ball, beat a tackle, had a bounce and then kicked truly from 30 meters out. I am so proud of the boys by the way they put their head over the ball and played hard right through to the end. Unbeaten in the regular season this victory was their best for the year after having been beaten by Marist Black in the second semi-final with the boys responding on the day with a strong team effort. The Marist coach spoke highly of the contest after the game, commending all of the boys for playing the game the way all games should be played, in the right spirit and with no malice whatsoever. I would like to say well done to all the boys who all contributed to the success throughout the year and on the day. A special congratulation goes to Billy Johns for being judged best afield in the Grand Final which capped off a year of great personal success for him. Finally, I would like to thank all the helpers on the day and for the setup of the clubrooms after the game for the boys to enjoy their victory.

p.s. I hope you are sitting down whilst you read this even if it is the short version from the AGM. The Warwick Greenwood Junior Football Club has in season 2013 continued to develop on and off the field. It has been a strong focus on the administration side of the club that has seen us further improve our off field strength base. The club has improved on the field with our focus being on improving our coaches and providing specialist coaching to our players to see them develop their skill set further. Our player base has increased and we are now the 4th biggest club in the district with 450 players (From a low of 200 players in 2008). A significant gain in one season and this saw us field one team in all the Open age groups and 8 teams in the Modified age group, a club record of 13 teams which is promising for our club moving forward. After last year s AGM we were lucky enough to have many people step forward to help and this has ensured that the committee continued to work extremely hard to continue to improve our club. The club embarked last season on a two year plan to achieve Silver accreditation through the West Australian Football Commission. Silver accreditation recognises an excellent level of club administration. The club continues with their commitment to this community to bring people together not only through their kids playing football but by providing a destination for this to happen. As well as our many social events this strengthens our community and gives us and our kids a strong sense of belonging and ownership. The club has again improved itself in regards to more merchandise being available to our members. This year we brought in the new training jumper with the boys being able to have their names or nicknames on the jumpers. The next one in the pipeline for 2014 is WGJFC playing shorts for our players. Another massive year for our club in terms of functions and social events: Docker s players come down and run through training with our Year 5 s and 6 s. Year 11 s again head off to Melbourne Hosted our sister club Kambalda (36 years strong) with the Year 7 s all heading down to Ern Halliday in Sorrento for the day The Sportsman Night with Jacko and Suma. Bogan Bingo Auskick Gala Day with 1200 kids playing and another 2500 family in attendance; and Trophy Day A big turnaround in our sponsorship base with a Gold Sponsor and 2 Bronze sponsors as well as player sponsors and another beneficiary who would like to remain anonymous. This was a great result for the club with sponsors injecting around $6,500 into our club. We also secured a great deal with iinet and we hope to continue this on next year with iinet retaining the naming rights to our Year 11 team. In 2014 the plans are the usual full calendar plus Yr 7 s head to Kambalda. Yr 9 Merredin trip The Yr 9 s will head to Merredin one weekend and be involved in some cultural activities with the football club there before playing a game. This trip is designed to keep in line with our retention policy and encourage the boys to come back much the same as the Melbourne trip does for our Year 11 s. AUSKICK What a big year for our Auskick group. Our new Auskick Coordinator Marcus McArthur came on board and little did he know of the challenges to come! Auskick ran very smoothly this year thanks to the help provided to Marcus by the Coaches, Managers and parents who helped on the field and in the canteen was well as Matt Dobson and Lyle Holdaway who set the ovals up.

AUSKICK (cont) Marcus was also lucky enough to have a great set of Coaches and the parents were outstanding in the. Our club culture is built from the ground up and starts in Auskick and I was most encouraged to see the parents and kids embrace our club and how we do things this year. MODIFIEDS Our modified teams certainly had strong seasons with many of the teams losing only one or two games. Whilst our focus is developing players in these age groups it was pleasing to see we were competitive. Our Year 8 s just missed out on the finals finishing 5th which was a great result in their first year. Next year all Year 7 teams will be involved in playing finals football and this will be an exciting time for them. RECRUITMENT/RETENTION In 2014 we will continue to work on different recruitment/retention strategies particularly in the off season. Working closely with the junior schools to provide umpires during their junior school football carnivals Working hand in hand with our Year 11 group to ensure they return in Year 12. continuing to offer places to players displaced from other clubs not running teams continue our policy of trying to offer a place for everyone who registers with our club the Melbourne trip for the Year 11 s age group the Merredin trip for the Year 9 s group The Kambalda trip for the Year 7 s group Free footballs to all Auskickers and footballs awarded to the BOG from Mods through to Open rules teams. An incentive to players bringing new players to our club Working closely with the district to ensure they understand exactly what we do for our players and how concerned we are with our players welfare Having policies in place and operating correctly that show our club is not just a place to play football but a place where your child can grow develop and prosper. CANTEEN The famous Warwick Greenwood canteen opened up again this season and ran very successfully. Mandy Kimberley again did a power of work ensuring it all ran smoothly. The canteen again will return a significant amount of money to our club and is an ongoing fundraiser for the club through the year. As one parent commented to me not only is the canteen a place to buy food but it s the heartbeat behind the club, it brings atmosphere and is a place to catch up with friends and have a chat. This is a great thing because this is exactly what it s designed to do. It was well known through the district and beyond that the only place to buy the best bacon and Egg burger in town was at our Canteen. I have to acknowledge all the parents that helped in the canteen this season but in particular to Helen and Bill, Caroline Clinch and the young kids who regularly put their hands up. SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The hard working members of the Club s Committee are also worthy of further acknowledgement in particular those that are leaving the Committee this year: Margaret Egan: has been the rock behind the President, sending out emails when requested and there were a few. Margaret s great skill in administration has meant this club has continued on with its smooth running from the previous seasons. We are sad to see Margaret step down from the Secretary s role this year but happy to say she will still be at our club. Martin Rogers for the great work he has done in always getting the books right. Martin also is leaving us this year after being convinced last season to give us one more go!! Rob Hill is another that is stepping down as he wants to concentrate on coaching. There is noone in this club that knows more about each child than Rob and this shows in his very personable and caring manner.

I would also like to acknowledge the tireless work of all the Coaches and Managers from Auskick through to the 17 s and the regular volunteers who provide their time on game day. Finally, to the players themselves, who have played their part in our club having an excellent record on and off the field this season 2014 OPPORTUNITIES / AREAS TO IMPROVE As a committee we are always looking to improve the way we do things. Areas earmarked for improvement next season include: Continue to implement our strategic plan. continue to build on the success of our canteen from last season work on a plan to achieve gold accreditation within two years furthering our specialist coaching program Bringing onto the committee the new position of Managers Coordinators Holding regular Coaches and Managers meetings Refining our social calendar for the year recruit new people (from our growing Auskick families) to the committee who ideally do not already have major club commitments at a team level continue developing our evolving relationship with the North Beach Football Club ensuring we are getting the best from them in terms of coaches and players development Increasing our membership base To have the best trained and informed Coaches and Managers Continue the expectation on parents to volunteer for duties at their sons or daughters game Continue to build our club culture and ensure key messages are getting across to all age groups but in particular the younger age groups who are just entering the club. Sustaining our reputation as the safest club with the best safety facilities in the District. P R E S I D E N T S F I N A L F I N A L 2013 W ORD HO N E S T L Y! In closing for 2013 it is evident that the club is on the right track. This will continue if people continue to put their hand up to volunteer. We have seen enormous progress this year which has contributed to many of the improvements around the club. Parents are the lifeblood of the Warwick Greenwood Junior Football Club. The tasks that parents have performed at the club over the 2013 season reflect well on you all and the club. As President I am personally very grateful to have the parents we have involved in the club as it certainly makes my and the Committee s job a lot easier. I applaud you all for your contribution and conduct this year and I hope to see you all again next season. Finally to our players, who are the spirit and reason for the clubs existence I would like to thank you all for your big efforts on and off the field this year and we hope to see you all back at the Club with your mates in 2014 for what we expect to be a bigger and better year again.
