SMOKE SPIRIT was slow to begin. CRYSTAL WAVE jumped away awkwardly and as a consequence was marginally slow to begin. ARGENTINIAN over raced through the early stages. After passing the 800 metres ARGENTINIAN when over racing, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CURATA FIRE. Near the 700 metres SOUTHERN SPARKLE had to be steadied when tightened for room between PEACE OF HEAVEN and CRYSTAL WAVE, due to both runners shifting ground.
STERLING BLUE raced wide and without cover throughout. STERLING BLUE was under pressure from the entrance to the home straight and weakened to be placed last. Rider, Alan Creighton reported upon return to scales that the gelding failed to let down in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance of SMOKE SPIRIT that performed below market expectations rider, John Keating reported the gelding missed the start and did not finished the race off as expected. J Keating added SMOKE SPIRIT may appreciate the addition of blinkers. BALLIANG LAD raced wide through the early and middle stages before obtaining cover near the 600 metres. Race 2 VIC HOTEL WARRNAMBOOL MAIDEN PLATE - 1406 metres: The start was initially delayed when holding for Race 2 at Gosford gallops. ANGEL SUEZ that proved difficult to load, further delayed the start. Connections of ANGEL SUEZ will be advised a warning will be issued against the filly for its manners behind the barriers. STATHAM was slow to begin. IRISH LUTE over raced through the early stages and near the 1000 metres had to be checked to avoid the heels of MAPUCHE. KING ZERO over raced through the middle stages and had to be eased to avoid the heels of ANGEL SUEZ near the 1000 metres. GRAB A BIRD raced wide without cover throughout. STATHAM settled at the rear of the field and was eased down by its rider, Jack Hill, from the 400 metres. J Hill reported STATHAM did not begin well and did not travel well throughout. A post race veterinary examination of STATHAM revealed no obvious abnormalities. Connections will be contacted in the ensuing days to ascertain how STATHAM had recovered from today s performance. Rider, Josh Cartwright (SHAH OF SHELFORD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR.137(a). It was alleged approaching the 800 metres, J Cartwright carelessly permitted SHAH OF SHELFORED to shift in when not sufficiently clear of IRISH LUTE that was checked and lost its rightful racing position. Josh Cartwright s licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight 12 February and to expire at midnight 18 February 2013 a total of 7 meetings. In assessing penalty Stewards deemed the incident to be in the low range. Race 3 WHEATSHEAF HOTEL TERANG MAIDEN HIGHWIGHT PLATE - 1606 metres: HERE S TO A KING jumped away awkwardly.
LAKE EERIE was slow to begin. ZIPPY LAD was tightened after the start between PRYMSLEA and ALBAZAR that shifted out. ZIPPY LAD over raced through the early stages. PRYMSLEA raced wide and without cover. Riders, Shane Jackson (GREAT DAN EAGLE), Gavin Bedggood (THE MULLET) and Paul Hamblin (ROCK OF RICHES) were questioned regarding an incident near the 1300 metres where ROCK OF RICHES appeared to be checked. On the evidence it was established G Bedggood crossed GREAT DAN EAGLE when not quite sufficiently clear resulting in that gelding being taken in and tightening ROCK OF RICHES that had been eased by its rider. G Bedggood acknowledged he was not fully two lengths clear when shifting ground and accordingly was issued with a severe reprimand. Riders, Shane Jackson (GREAT DAN EAGLE) and Paul Hamblin (ROCK OF RICHES) were questioned regarding an incident approaching the 400 metres where ROCK OF RICHES appeared to be checked. On the evidence it was established GREAT DAN EAGLE shifted in when being ridden along when not quite sufficiently clear of ROCK OF RICHES which had to be steadied by its rider. Shane Jackson was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when in similar circumstances. Near the 300 metres LAKE EERIE when held up, had to be checked and eased to the outside of ALBAZAR to obtain clear running. Gavin Bedggood (THE MULLET) was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on six occasions prior to the 100 metres. Gavin Bedggood was questioned regarding his tactics adopted upon THE MULLET that led the field, contrary to the geldings recent pattern of racing. G Bedggood stated it was his intention to ride THE MULLET with cover, however his mount began well and he was able to secure a forward position. Race 4 BETFAIR 0-62 HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP - 1406 metres: AFFECTIONATE ONE jumped away awkwardly before being restrained to obtain a position at the rear of the field. AMUN RA jumped away awkwardly before shifting in and inconveniencing KING TRITON. PRINCESS ANNA raced wide without cover. Passing the 1100 metres MYSTERY BLITZ commenced to hang in severely hampering APPLEBOTTOM that was taken in and checked MUJADALE. Rider, Daniel Stackhouse was questioned regarding the performance of MYSTERY BLITZ. D Stackhouse explained MYSTERY BLITZ lay in through the early stages before then being inclined to hang out rounding the turn. MYSTERY BLITZ was eased down from the 200 metres. D Stackhouse added MYSTERY BLITZ never travelled well and may have been jarring up upon return to
the mounting enclosure. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Post race swab samples were collected from MYSTERY BLITZ. Connections will be contacted in the ensuing days to ascertain how MYSTERY BLITZ had recovered from today s performance. GOD S OWN COUNTRY over raced through the middle stages. Rider, Shane Jackson (PRINCESS ANNA) was reprimanded for using his whip on six occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres. S Jackson was further reminded of his obligations with regard to his whip use when raising his arm above shoulder height. Rider, J Lynch (AFFECTIONATE ONE) was spoken to advisedly in relation to his attempts to obtain a run to the inside of AMUN RA when there was insufficient room to do so in the home straight. Race 5 CENTREBET TOUR OF VIC BM72 HANDICAP - 1131 metres: CONIDEL jumped away awkwardly before being tightened after the start between ZACHARY QUACK and DIAMONDS AT DUSK that was taken out by TUDOR GLEN. PUERTO FLAMENCO was slow to begin. INVINCIBLE JESS was slow to begin after making contact with the barrier. FIVE O CLOCK jumped away awkwardly. ZACHARY QUACK raced wide and without cover. Approaching the winning post ZACHARY QUACK that was shifting out under pressure was steadied to avoid the heels of DIAMONDS AT DUSK. Rider, Damien Thornton (CONIDEL) was severely reprimanded for using his whip on six occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres. Rider, Luke Londregan was questioned regarding his tactics adopted upon PUERTO FLAMENCO that raced at the rear of the field throughout. L Londregan stated after beginning awkwardly he settled at the rear of the field as instructed. L Londregan acknowledged in hindsight he got further back than desired however suggested the gelding would be better suited over more ground. Trainer, Kelvin Bourke confirmed the instructions and stated he was disappointed in the manner PUERTO FLAMENCO finished the race off. L Londregan was advised he should have made a greater effort to remain in contact with the field. Race 6 TOLLEY MENSWEAR 0-58 HANDICAP - 1131 metres: The start of the race was delayed when holding for an event from the Hobart gallops. IN THE BOOK jumped away awkwardly and shifted out before having to be eased to avoid the heels of PRINCE FIREBALL.
Rider, Alan Creighton (FINAL FINALE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR.137(a). It was alleged approaching and passing the 1000 metres, Alan Creighton carelessly permitted FINAL FINALE to shift in when not sufficiently clear of POPPY S POND that had been checked and taken in onto PEROSSA that has also been checked and in turn taken in onto OUR HENRY that was tightened for room. A Creighton s licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight 11 February and to expire 22 February 2013 a total of 12 meetings. In assessing penalty Stewards deemed the incident to be in the mid range. OH SO CLOSE raced wide without cover throughout. POPPY S POND was held up rounding the home turn and until inside the 400 metres. OUR HENRY had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 200 metres. Rider, Alan Creighton (FINAL FINALE) was reminded of his obligations when required to ride his mounts fully through to the finish. Race 7 JIM S ANTENNAS TOUR OF VIC 0-68 HANDICAP - 1606 metres: OOMOO CHANCE raced wide and without cover throughout. Riders, Dean Larsson (EQUAL RIGHTS), Tillie Neve (CON THRUST) and Damien Thornton (WILSHIRE FLYER) were questioned regarding an incident near the 300 metres where WILSHIRE FLYER had to be checked. On the evidence it was established WILSHIRE FLYER that was attempting to obtain a run to the inside of OOMOO CHANCE, was taken in by that mare that shifted in under pressure. Simultaneously EQUAL RIGHTS had shifted out and away from CON THRUST that shifted out marginally and as a consequence WILSHIRE FLYER has been checked off the heels of EQUAL RIGHTS. As Stewards could not attribute blame to the careless actions of any particular rider, no further action was taken. Rider, Harry Coffey reported FLYING OMISSION travelled well in the run, however failed to respond to his riding in the straight. BE TOLERANT that trailed the leader was held up rounding the home turn until the 300 metres. WILSHIRE FLYER was unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. On the evidence Stewards are satisfied the registered ownership of ADOPTED OPINION, that being J M Peat and M A Herman is true and correct. Stewards are further satisfied Jennifer Williams is the trainer of ADOPTED OPINION and oversees the day to day training of the filly. It was established however Jennifer Williams had failed to lodge the necessary horse movement forms for ADOPTED OPINION when stabled at a location other than her registered stable address, prior to trialling in December 2012. Jennifer Williams was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR.80F and reminded of her obligations under LR.28 that states: LR 28 Horse must be trained for 28 days before a race or official trial Unless prior permission has been obtained from the Stewards, a person must not enter or permit a horse to run in any race or official trial:
(a) unless the horse has been trained for the period of 28 days immediately before the running of the race or official trial by a holder of a trainers licence granted in a category specified under LR 35A(1A) excluding the holder of a Pre-Trainer licence; or (b) where, during the same period, the horse has been stabled overnight at: (i) premises that are not licensed under the Rules; or (ii) premises of the holder of a Pre-Trainer licence.
