I was very proud of all our youth and especially enjoyed traveling and learning with our ten from Chickasaw County and chaperones, Edith and Sandra. I hope each of you will consider this opportunity as part of your 4-H journey. You will find pictures on page 6 and please ask participants about their experiences. I was pleased to see so many of you at the Clothing and Communication Day event on Sunday, April 10th. Our number of events doubled from last year s number! Congratulations to each of you who participated and especially those honored to represent Chickasaw county at the Iowa State Fair. Livestock Exhibitors: Please identify your animals in 4-H Online TODAY!! Instructions are on page 3. May 15 is a Sunday this year and will come up soon. LIVESTOCK NEWS Workshop #2 May 7 Tonya Klassen, Swine Superintendent & Bailey Schinker, County Council secretary will offer a workshop about the swine project on Saturday May 7th from 10 AM-12 PM at the Big 4 Fair Grounds in Nashua. Topics: biosecurity, show tips, grooming, feed & water, preparation for fair & new exhibitor award for 2016. RSVP Val: (641)394-2174 or vhorner@iastate.edu by May 5. Weigh-in May 7 & Tag Information Sheep & meat goat weigh-in will be at the New Hampton HS on Saturday, May 7, 8 10 AM. Tags are $3. Sheep/Meat Goat Scrapies Tags The wait time for anyone ordering scrapies tags for sexually intact sheep/meat goats is around 3 weeks. Per state health rules, scrapies tags must be in the animal s ear upon arrival at an exhibition/show. Information about the USDA scrapies program is at, http:// www.extension.iastate.edu/4hfiles/agriculture/ LHSheepScrapie.pdf. Rabbit Tattooing May 25 is required for 2016 fair & will be offered at the Brinks Farm from 3-7 PM on May 25th. Call Janette: 319-415-5771 to RSVP. Workshop in June Beef Superintendents are planning a June Workshop and are asking for your input. Please let your leaders know what topics are of interest such as showing, grooming, fitting so it will meet your needs. Saddle Club Youth Clinic May 15 The Plum Creek Saddle Club is offering a FREE Youth clinic on Sunday, May 15th at 1879 Kenwood Ave., New Hampton. Topics include: Showmanship, Halter, Pleasure and game assistance. Call Michelle: 319-240-5507 to RSVP. FSQA Training & Testing Join your friends who have completed their FSQA testing or training for the 2016 Fair. Twenty-six youth and four adults attended training on Tuesday, April 26th and fourteen youth have tested out. Intermediates and Seniors who still need to certify may contact the office for a testing time and juniors may call for training alternate sites/dates. Call Val at 641-394- 2174. Dog Class Schedule Exhibitors with less than three years 4-H or FFA experience MUST attend at least 6 of the 1 hour Dog Obedience classes to be able to show during the fair. Attendance at classes is highly recommended but not required for exhibitors with 3 or more years of experience. FAIR NEWS FAIR SCHEDULE 2016 & Fair Book:http://www.extension.iastate.edu/chickasaw/content/fair-information One paper copy/4-h family will be distributed through leaders. If you are showing livestock please follow steps below. For crops, please see step #2. STEP #1 by May 15 Enter your 4-H Livestock projects today (4-H members and Clovers.) Follow the steps below: Log In: iowa.4honline.com -EMAIL is the family email address at which you receive 4hOnline emails. Select Forgot password to reset, or call the Extension Office for assistance with your log in information. Continue to Family Edit: Choose member from Member List, click Edit Animals/Livestock: Locate at top left (below green 4H) and Click Animals/Livestock Select Animal Type: Choose animal you want to enter from drop down list. Click the Add button below drop-down box. Enter Animal Information: Read the information at the top of each screen, particularly if you are considering exhibiting at the state fair. Some fields that are NOT required (bold) are actually necessary for state fair animals. For each animal entered, enter all the information requested and click the save button. All fields in bold are required. For a help sheet with step by step pictures and examples for each species visit: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/chickasaw/news/livestockentry-4-h-online This is a STATE REQUIREMENT, All livestock must be owned and identified in 4honline by May 15, 2016 to exhibit at the 2016 Fair. FFA Paper ID forms are due at the office by May 15. STEP #2 by June 15 FAIR ENTRY INFORMATION-(all animals and crops coming to the 2016 Fair) This year we are encouraging everyone to do their animal entries on-line in Fair Entry by June 15th. Step by step instructions can be found: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/chickasaw/ content/fair-information FFA may also use this process. All LIVESTOCK ENTRIES and CROPS ENTRIES must be online, postmarked or due into the Extension Office by 4:30 PM June 15, 2016. Entries received after this deadline will be charged an additional penalty entry fee of $20 per head. Entries will not be accepted after Monday, June 22, 2016. Top Honors for the Top Shots Chickasaw Top Shots went to the Northeast Iowa Archery Tournament April 3 in Mason City. Daniel Orthaus received first place in the Junior division for compound bow. Isaac Howe received first place in Junior division recurve bow and 2nd place in compound bow. Gavin Rings received fourth place in junior division compound bow. Devin Orthaus received first place in Intermediate compound bow. Alexis Rings received eight place in Senior compound bow. Everyone did an excellent job as it was a very tight competition with scores. Way to go Top Shots.
