PC looks to keep up its strong play, winning eight of its last nine after starting the season 0-8. Series History Liberty holds the edge in the all-time series, winning all nine games for a 9-0 record. The Flames swept the Blue Hose last season in Lynchburg, Va., winning the first game by a 6-5 margin and taking the second two by 7-1 and 5-2 scores. Brad Zebedis went 5-for-12 against the Flames, driving in four RBI. On the Mound The Blue Hose will likely start Bud Jeter, Chandler Knox and Beau Dees over the weekend. Jeter and Knox have served as PC s opening 1-2 punch throughout the season, with both collecting their first wins of the season against NJIT over the weekend. Dees leads the Blue Hose starters in ERA (3.74) and earned his first career win on Wednesday night with 1.2 innings of hitless relief against Kennesaw State. Scouting the Flames Liberty arrives in Laurens County with a 17-3 record after picking up a 9-0 home win on Wednesday against James Madison. The Flames dropped a game on Sunday and another on Tuesday but opened the season on a seven-game winning sreak. On February 28, Liberty blanked No. 18 Virginia, 8-0. Bryan Aanderud paces the team with a.389 average. Last Time Out Second baseman Andrew Williams hit a Division I-era record three home runs and PC broke a 6-6 tie to knock off Kennesaw State on Wednesday, 9-6. Williams three home runs mark the most ever in a D-I game for the Blue Hose and the redshirt junior also set a new single-game record for total bases, with 12. Williams posted the first multi-home run game since Gabe Grammer hit two against Duke on May 11, 2010. Williams went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in four RBI. Nate Chong went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, as well. We ve Got Some First-Timers Over Here Of the eight pitchers who have won games this year for the Blue Hose, five of them captured the

first win of their careers. Beau Dees (at Kennesaw State, 3/14), Chad White (at Davidson, 3/4), Tim Corbin (at NC Central, 3/7), Ryan Morris (vs. Wofford, 2/29) and Chad Sanders (vs. NJIT, 3/11) all notched career firsts by collecting victories in 2012. Grammer Time With six saves in eight appearances, Gabe Grammer set a new PC Division I record for most saves in a season by eclipsing Chandler Knox s four saves last season. The senior saved PC s 9-6 win against Kennesaw State and 4-3 victory over NJIT on Sunday. In the March 4 game against Davidson, Grammer hit a double in the top of the ninth before securing the save in the bottom of the frame. The win came hours after Grammer hit a two-run walkoff homerun to defeat Ohio in the 14th inning earlier in the day, 11-10. We re Going Streaking Kenny Bryant and Gabe Grammer enter this weekend having reached safely in 10 straight games, the longest on-base streak of any PC player this season. Grammer and Chong maintain the longest active hitting streaks, with four each. Andrew Williams holds the longest hitting streak this season, with eight games. The Long Ball Andrew Williams tied Kenny Bryant for the team lead in home runs with a trio of homers against Kennesaw State on Wednesday night, nearly matching his previous career total as he entered the night with four in his career. Kenny Bryant shares the lead after he hit three home runs in three straight games against NC Central and Wofford. The senior slugger ranks second among all active players with 19 career home runs, while Tony Micklon leads the pack with 25. Gabe Grammer and Brad Zebedis check in in a tie for third, with 13. So Fresh and So Clean A pair of freshman have gotten off to quick starts in their careers, with Billy Motroni leading the regulars in the lineup with a.322 batting average (19-for-59) and Jay Lizanich checking in with a.300 (21-for-70) average. Newcomer Robby Swab has also done well in his first season since transferring from Young Harris, hitting.250 at the plate with six RBI. There Can Be Only One PC swept the NJIT Highlanders in a three-game series on March 10 and 11, picking up wins of 6-1, 7-1 and 4-3. Nate Chong went 5-for-9 over the series (.556 batting average) and drove in three RBI. Nine different Blue Hose drove in runs against NJIT and Chandler Knox, Bud Jeter and Chad Sanders all picked up wins. Plucking the Eagles PC topped North Carolina Central in a pitchers duel on Wednesday, edging the Eagles by a 3-1 margin. PC s effective pitching held the Eagles to only one run, allowing the visitors four hits and three runs to hold up as the winning difference. Kenny Bryant drove in PC s lone RBI on his second home run of the season. 2012 Big South Standings (Through games of March 14) Team W L Pct W L T Pct. A Season to Remember The Blue Hose compiled the program s best record in the Division I era last year, racking up a 24-32 record with a three-game sweep of UNC Asheville to close the campaign. The team s March 30th win over Wofford broke the Division I win record of 15 that PC in 2010 and the team s May 8 win over Winthrop gave the team its first 20-win season since the Blue Hose went 25-30 in 2004. Senior Wisdom The team returns seven starters and a dozen players who will play their final season for PC in 2012. Six of the team s seven starters in the field last season will leave the program after this year in Tony Micklon, Gabe Grammer, Kenny Bryant, Andrew Williams, John Wagner and Tyler Hill. Key pitchers Matt Nodelman, Buck Mosteller, Steven Richardson and Nick Ferguson will be among those suiting up for their farewell season. New Blood Ten newcomers join the Blue Hose in Beau Dees (LHP), Jay Lizanich (INF), Brandon Martin (OF/1B), Cam McRae (C), Billy Motroni (RHP/INF), Matt Peden (OF/1B), Michael Ricchi (LHP), Nathan Sharp (INF), Cody Self (C) and Robby Swab (C). Swab joins PC from Young Harris and will contend for playing time at catcher, while Peden, Motroni and Lizanich are expected to contribute immediately in the field and at the plate. All 10 have impressed at the high school level and will be counted on. At the Helm PC alumnus Elton Pollock is in his eighth year as head coach of the Blue Hose, entering this season with a 119-264 career record after taking the position of head coach in 2005. Pollock led the team to a record-setting 2011 season, going 24-32 overall and 9-19 in the Big South-both Division I erarecords en route to a best-ever eighth place finish. PC went on a nine-game win streak in 2011 that saw the squad take down No. 16 Clemson for the first time since 1949. Pollock played for PC from 1992 to 1995, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in Computer Science. Coach Em Up Josh Davis enters his first year as top assistant and second year on the staff while Cody Church makes his coaching debut this season as an assistant. Davis, a 2005 graduate of Charleston Southern, helped PC to a Division I-high win total last season and helped boost the team s batting average to.294 from.269 in 2010 and produce Division I-era records for hits (572), walks (184) and strikeouts (327). Church, a 2011 Lincoln Memorial graduate, brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Blue Hose as well. The Seymour, Tennessee native served on the coaching staffs at summer camps at Radford, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, as well as working for former PC and current Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin at the Commodores camp. Finally, Pollock rounded out the staff by bringing 2011 PC graduate Nate Horton back to the team as an assistant coach. Horton backstopped the Blue Hose from 2008 through 2011 and no player has appeared or started more games or has tallied more at-bats at the Division I level for PC.
