GABMA The British Motorcycle Association is a nonprofit club dedicated to owners, riders, and enthusiasts of all makes of British motorcycles, new and old. Most of our members have vintage motorcycles, but many have modern motorcycles as well. We have a strong network of core members that ride, work on and show their bikes. Our mission is to preserve and grow interest in all things British motorcycles whether it be restoration, riding, racing, customization, or anything else to do with these classic machines. The Club has a membership of more than 140 members in Georgia and a mailing list of 300 people, which spans primarily GA, FL, SC, NC, TN, AL. Monthly Meeting The Club meets the first Wednesday of the month at the Hudson Grille at 4046 Peachtree Rd. NE, Brookhaven GA Members typically arrive before 7pm. The meeting ends about 9pm. Our next monthly meeting is January 2, 2019. We will have a guest from the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club and we will be discussing planning for the Great American Motorcycle Show on January 27-28. Please joint us. Membership Dues: Membership Dues are due on January 1st 2019. The renewal form can be found on page 5 or you can bring them to the January meeting. New Members: Cecil Pharr s application for membership was approved. Cecil lives in Atlanta and has a 2016 Triumph Thruxton, a 2017 Triumph Thruxton R and a 2016 Triumph Thruxton R supercharged. Cecil is the Treasurer of TOMCC-USA and is looking to encourage a closer relationship between our clubs. GABMA / GANOA Christmas Party: The Christmas party took place on December 5th at The Crossing steakhouse in Norcross. We had over 40 people join us for the annual GABMA / GANOA Christmas party. A good time was had by all. If you missed it this year, put it on your calendar for next year. It is tentatively scheduled for December 4, 2019. Check out the photo s on page 3. Club Communications: Steve Griffith The GABMA newsletter is now reaching 280 people across 5+ states. The open rate for the newsletter is over 40% and increasing. As we work to insure we have valid emails, etc., we expect this to slowly improve. We also continue to post weekly on the GABMA Facebook page. We have ~1000 people which follow the GABMA page. We are starting to see increased contacts from other clubs which should expand our reach further. Events: The Great American Motorcycle Show is Jan 26-27 at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Both GABMA and GANOA Clubs are looking forward to a strong showing again in 2019. Mark your calendars. We will be discussing the details for this event at our January 2nd meeting. NE, Brookhaven GA March 14 Noon 5pm: Nortona at Daytona Bike Week: The GANOA Club puts on their annual Nortona event on March 14 (Thursday) from noon to 5pm at the Betty Steflick Memorial Preserve, Flagler Beach Florida. A $25 admission gets you great food, beverages, seeing old friends and sharing stories. If you have never been to this event this is the year. Norton Art - Paul Reifsnyder As many of your know, Paul Reifsnyder, GANOA treasurer, has a passion for Nortons. He has built several Nortons including the two 73-74 Norton Commandos he routinely rides and shows at events. He recently built this 73-74 850 engine (right) from parts he purchased on EBAY. It has new pistons, bearings and valves and is a ready to go back up engine for his two Nortons. In the meantime, he displays the engine on his mantle as Norton Art. And, No, he states, it is not for sale!
GABMA / GANOA 2018 Christmas Party We had over 40 people attend the 2018 GABMA / GANOA Christmas Party, split fairly evenly between both clubs. This member / spouse event included the usual great fare at the Crossing Steakhouse, a lively gift exchange, the 50/50 raffle, a little club business and best of all a lot of discussion about bikes we have owned, bikes we are trying to get running, bikes we trying to buy and up coming events in 2019. GABMA History - What was happening 10 years ago? With over 30 years of history, the is one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in Georgia. Many people have made it possible for this club to have such a long history of passion and dedication to British motorcycles. John Underwood, current president of GABMA, has a good archive of newsletters that date back well into the 90 s. This gives us a great opportunity to look back and recognize the contributions that have been made by so many.
