2012 Ski Trips HVSC The two major trips for 2012 are Kitzbuhel, Austria and Beaver Creek, Colorado. Sign ups for Kitzbuhel began at the May 4 club meeting. Sign ups for Beaver Creek will begin on June 1 at the club meeting. The Kitzbuhel sign ups started a month early so the participants will have more time to make payments. Details on Kitzbuhel are in this newsletter. Details on Beaver Creek will be in the June newsletter. An announcement of our local trips will appear as soon as the details are finalized. Thank You The Trip Committee would like to extend a Big Thank You to all the participants of this years trips. Your participation and support resulted in another successful ski season for HVSC. The Trip Committee is busy planning next seasons trips and we hope they will be met with equal enthusiasm. The announcement of the major trips for 2012 are in this issue of the newsletter. I would also like to thank the committe members, Jack Amacher, Nancy Egan, John Macek, Bob Martizinek, Jackie Martzinek, and Charlie Shanes for their continued dedication and hard work. We had some unique issues with our trips this year and it was the team work of the committee that overcame these obstacles to insure our members had a successful trip. Bill Egan Trip Committee Chair Page 3 US Snowsport Demographic Trends- Are We Ready? In winding down my ski season, I was privileged to participate in the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) 50th Anniversary Celebration at Snowmass, Colorado during the first week in April. While skiing under the tutelage of a US Alpine Team member was a highlight of my skiing adventures (an understatement), there was another celebration highlight of great significance to us as a ski club. A keynote speaker at the Banquet was Mark Dorsey, Executive Director and CEO of PSIA who addressed the demographic changes that have occurred on the slopes over the past decade or more; derived from detailed analysis of skier/snowboarder use at ski resorts. We all seem to make observations as to what age ranges make up skiers and snowboarders within the lift lines and the slopes we share. Are we seeing more Seniors enjoying the slopes as we do? Has the economy forced families to forego the investment in travel, equipment, lodging, etc. that winter sports requires? Is our ski club membership indicative of these trends? Are we connected to what the trends are and what they mean for the future of the Hudson Valley Ski Club? Do we have a strategy for recruiting younger members to our ski club? And would younger members need services or benefits that are different than what we have offered? Mark Dorsey s presentation offers many insights to these questions; some that may suggest we take a close look at marketing strategies, and membership services we provide to become the Premier ski club we can be. Don t miss this program! Mark Dorsey Executive Director, CEO Professional Ski Instructors of America (a video screen presentation) Hudson Valley Ski Club Program HVSC Meeting, June 1, 2011 An intriguing in-depth analysis of skier/snowboarder trends in the United States. Who's on the slopes... Who isn't? What do demographic trends mean for the future for ski resorts; and, ski clubs? How does this affect you as a ski club member? What's your opinion?
