Treasurer Gary Ytreeide reviewed the financials for August. Gary reported that with the initial payment for the floor repair, the club incurred a loss of $9,539.82 on total revenues of $6,409.51. A second payment of $10,278.45 will be due in mid-september with the balance due upon completion.. We will do an early cash out of 4 $ 5,000 CD s. Our reserves are allowing this expenditure with no debt incurred nor a need for any assessment. I was by there yesterday and the floor is starting to look great. The Port Mansfield race has come and gone with a great turn out of boats and people. Details will be forthcoming. Shirley Paxton announced new members and they were approved -- Lisa and Rick Evans, Tom Coxwell and Ann Marie Crane, Joe and Jan Martaus, as well as Linda and Hugh McKeon. You need to get around and meet them. Dave Davis and John Nelson then reported on the status of the Sail Aransas Foundation. In summary their recommendation is to postpone creation of the Foundation and work with the Yacht Club in developing a Youth Program. Once the youth program is established then the Foundation would be developed to provide support. The Youth Program Committee would be a responsibility of the Rear Commodore. Young people between 8 and 18 would participate in events promoted and marketed within the community. A week long sailing camp and an on-going weekly program would be considerations. A part time certified sailing instructor could be hired for the months of June, July and part of August. Admission to the NFM could be raised a bit to cover the cost. Obtaining Sunfish and/or Opti s through gifts or purchase would be needed. Other recommendations were presented for consideration. On Friday, 11 September come on down to happy hour Club for some appetizers before we lock the doors while the floor is being replaced. On Friday, 2 October, Lawana Jackson and her son are hosting the Friday Night Dinner and a celebration of our recently departed friend, Richard. They will be serving Brisket I will be forwarding more details by e-mail as the date nears. And, we re still looking for a guest chef to try out the new grill the Club purchased last month. What a Great Time!!.... On Labor Day Weekend RYC hosted the 34th annual Port A-Port Mansfield Offshore Regatta. What a great crowd we had! Thank you to all the volunteers who put together the race, meal, accommodations, door prizes, and race committee work, it takes a lot of time and effort to put these events together. Thanks also to all the boats, boat owners, and crew that participated, lots and lots of prep is required to ensure the safety of both the crew and the boats when boating offshore especially at night. We had 13 boats register and quite a few land cruisers all made it safely into the little harbor town of Port Mansfield. The awards dinner was held at The Windjammer and the management there worked really hard to keep the food and drinks coming! Port Mansfield rolled out the welcome wagon, the restaurants, bars, harbor bait and fuel stands as well as hotels were so friendly and happy to have there. PM is mostly a fishing town with lots of guides, a great marina to launch your fishing boat and plenty of rooms or houses to rent. It has easy access to the Gulf, Intercoastal Waterway and close to South Padre Island and Mexico. If you come by boat, it is real easy to walk to most businesses. We are working on plans for an easy cruise to Island Moorings in Port Aransas, many of you are familiar with this marina. It is a great place gather ship store, lots of slips, plenty of parking and of course the great pool and hot tub! We will keep you posted on the dates, be ready to go! The Fall Series of racing has begun, be sure to come out on Fridays for Happy Hour and watch the finishes from the back deck. The RYC Halloween Party will be on Friday the 30th, you need to watch the finish of this race, racers are being encouraged to race in costume -should be fun! Be sure and start planning for decorating of your boat for the Annual Christmas Boat Parade, it will be held the first weekend of December. All types of boats can enter, you need to be able to motor around Little Bay safe and easy! Be creative and participate, this event is really a lot of fun.
