Next Meeting: January 2, 2019 Where: Taneycomo Terrace Condominium-club house 120 Wilshire Dr. Hollister, MO (Directions on last page) When: 6:00-7:00 PM Fly-tying 7:00-9:00 PM Meeting President s Message: SOUTH WEST POWER ADMIN. Generation Schedule 1-866-494-1993 www.swpa.gov Hi everyone. I would like to invite more members to partake of our events such as the litter pick up at the dam every third Saturday. I would also invite all members to join in our club fishing trips! I welcome members to furnish destinations for our members to get together and socialize! Fishing outings come to mind of course but just meeting at restaurants with the spouses and kids to socialize would also be fun! I look forward to acting as president of MTFA in 2019 and welcome any suggestions that would be beneficial to our club and more importantly our members! Sincerely, Mike Kidd The Christmas Dinner that was held December 5, at the Lion s club was a great event. There were 22 members in attendance. Famous Dave s delivered a great feast for us to enjoy. It was very nice to have a relaxed atmosphere that we could enjoy each other company. However, it was not all about the food. Per our by-laws, the December meeting will be considered the annual meeting. An election of officers and Executive Committee members is to be held at this meeting. The change in club officers is reflected in this month s newsletter! We held our second monthly clean up at the pavilion on December 15. Howard Hawkins, Mike Kidd, Matthew Peet were in attendance. 1

By all accounts the fish were being pretty picky. I fished for a couple of hours and I don t think that I got one bite! Those people fishing outlet # 2 were getting a number of fish! Howard had the coffee going and we got the place pretty well picked up in an hour or so. I held a mini knot tying seminar and we spoke with a number of anglers who came by and partook of the coffee. Mike Kidd shared some venison summer sausage with us, it was great-thanks for bringing that down Mike! Feb. 11.End of C & R at trout parks 3 Roger Heimerson at Roaring River 1/2 weight rod. Way to go Roger! Monthly Program 2 Knot tying session Fish Reports On Sunday Roger Heimerson and Jack Chadwell went to Roaring River to try some new fly rods. Jack caught several in the middle pool on soft hackles and stripping a crackle back. Roger caught his 1st trout on his new 1/2 wt in the upper pools using a peach egg. The battle was epic. The fly to use was anything pink, preferably an egg the size of a marble. A yellow mop fly was being used by one gent with good success. Lisa Bellue has agreed to give a presentation for our Jan., meeting. Come 3

and learn what techniques she uses to catch behemoths like this one. Make sure your early, the good seats are going fast? Quote of the Month "Beware how you trifle with your marvelous inheritance, this great land of ordered liberty, for if we stumble and fall, freedom and civilization everywhere will go down in ruin." ~ Henry Cabot Lodge, 1850-1924, US Senator from 1893-1924. Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray 24 muffin cups with cooking spray or line with paper liners. 2. Fold zucchini and apple into batter and spoon into the prepared muffin cups. 3. Bake in the preheated oven until until muffins spring back after pressing the top, about 25 minutes. Fly of the Month Antron Soft Hackle. Thread: 8/0 Red Uni-thread Hook: Lightening Strike NW1 # 16 Body: 8/0 Red Uni-thread Rib: Fine metallic tinsel Thorax: Ice Dub, Peacock Black Hackle: Antron yarn, Gray Brown Directions: Affix thread just behind eye of hook and then tie in a loose bunch of Antron yarn fibers about a half inch long projecting out in front of hook eye. Trim excess antron yarn at an angle to help create a tapered underbody along the hook shank! Wind thread rearward to a point above the barb of the hook. Secure a piece of tinsel and then wrap thread forward forming a nice taper. Leave enough space for your thorax. Spiral tinsel forward three or four wraps, then secure. Create a small thorax about one hook eye behind the eye. Using a half hitch tool to push the antron yarn back over the body. Form a small head and whip finish. The idea behind this fly is a cheap, durable substitute for partridge hackle. They look pretty good, but as of yet I ve not had a chance to fish them. Antron comes in a number of colors that might be a good color combinations. Instructions to the Taneycomo Terrace Condo Club House. Instructions to get to the Taneycomo Terrace Condo Club House in Hollister Missouri for the Chapter MTFA and EXPO meetings. When you go across the bridge from the landing take a right at the round-a-bout toward Hollister. Then turn right on Rail Road Ave., immediately after you cross the Turkey Creek Bridge. This will become Wilshire Dr. Keep on that road until you come to the condos. Take a left before the condo entrance and go pass the dumpsters to the next entrance.
