Swansea and District Table Tennis League Weekly League and Knockout Competition Reports 2018-19 Season [Newest Report First] Weekending 13 th April 2019 This week saw the final of The Memorial Cup between Penlan 'A' and Penlan 'J' which turned out to be the best final seen for a number of years. Probable Premier Division champions Penlan 'A' narrowly won 12-11 in a match which was settled on the last game of the evening which Josh Jenkins won 2-1; despite Steve Holmes winning his legs overall 6-1 for the losers. In the Premier League with one game to play and thirty points clear it looks certain that Penlan 'A' will retain their title. This week they beat third place Betws Rugby Club 22-15 thanks to Jarrett Zhang winning 9-2. Second place Penlan 'C' enhanced their position with a 28-9 victory over struggling Penlan 'D', Ben Mora winning 9-1 and Jacob Young 9-4. This result leaves Penlan needing a big win in their final game to avoid relegation. Relegated Cam Gears 'B' recorded their second win of the season beating Penlan 'E' 26-19. This means that Penlan will need to take some good points from their last game to be safe. Carmarthen 'B' beat Carmarthen 'C' 24-16 thanks to Roger Grech winning 9-5. With a game in hand Carmarthen 'C' should be able to avoid relegation. Carmarthen 'A' recorded a 21-16 victory over Cam Gears 'A' despite Morgan Siddley winning 9-5 for the losers. Penlan 'B' had a comfortable 27-7 win over Penyrheol 'A' with Lucy Page winning 9-1 and Lara Whitton 9-2. In Division One Penyrheol 'C' picked up good points in their effort to stay clear of the bottom of the table when they beat Penlan 'G' 27-4, Nick Couling and Mary Wilkins both winning 9-0 and Gareth Humphris 9-1. Cam Gears 'C' beat Penyrheol 'B' 22-15 with Doug Smith winning 9-2. Port Talbot 'B' narrowly beat Penlan 'H' 20-15 thanks to Phil Avery winning 9-1 before teaming up with Mostyn Lewis to win the last game 3-0. Division Two leaders Penyrheol 'D' had a convincing 24-8 victory over second place Penlan 'L', Daniel Felton winning 9-0. Carmarthen 'F' moved into second place after a narrow 20-19 win over Carmarthen 'E' despite Ashley Wray winning 9-4 for the losers. Penlan 'J' beat promotion chasing Cam Gears 'D' 23-16 with Tony Holmes winning 9-2 and Steve Holmes 9-4. Penlan 'K' beat a weakened Penyrheol 'E' 24-10.

Weekending 6 th April 2019 Premier Division leaders Penlan 'A' took a massive step towards the title with two good wins, first they beat second place Penlan 'C' 25-16 thanks to Marc Castro winning 9-4, they then beat Carmarthen 'A' 24-14, Marc Castro winning 9-0. Second place Penlan 'C' recorded a 23-11 victory over Penyrheol 'A' despite Dennis Bromage winning 9-2 for the losers. Betws Rugby Club stay in third place after beating Carmarthen 'B' 23-18 with Catherine Jones winning 9-0. Penlan 'B' beat Carmarthen 'C' 28-9 with Judith Whitton winning 9-0 and Lucy Page 9-4. This result drops Carmarthen into the second relegation spot but they do have a game in hand of the other struggler s. Penlan 'E' continued their fight for survival by narrowly beating Cam Gears 'A' 21-19 thanks to Cameron Averis who won 9-2. One issue is now decided is Cam Gears 'B' being relegated, but they put up a great fight to force a 19-19 draw with fellow struggler s Penlan 'D', Cerys Evans winning the last game 3-1 for Cam to secure the draw. Division One leaders Jerusalem Baptist Church finished their fixtures with a comprehensive 30-1 victory over Penlan 'G', they must now wait on the remaining fixtures to see if they remain at the head of the table. Port Talbot 'B' climbed the table with two victories, they beat Cam Gears 'C' 24-14 with Phil Avery winning 9-2, and then had a 30-3 win over Penlan 'G'. Penyrheol 'B' narrowly beat Carmarthen 'D' 23-19 despite Paul Tansley winning 9-5 for the losers, the match was decided when Alan Pattle won the last game 3-2 to secure the victory. Port Talbot 'C' gained a valuable 20-15 victory over Penlan 'G' thanks to Joe Nugent winning 9-2. Penlan 'F' beat Penyrheol 'C' 30-10. In Division Two Carmarthen 'F' easily beat Penyrheol 'E' 30-2. Carmarthen 'E' narrowly beat Penlan 'J' 20-16, Ashley Wray winning the last game 3-1 giving him match figures of 9-1. The final of the Memorial Cup will take place on Friday 12 th April between Penlan 'A' and Penlan 'J' at Penlan Leisure Centre. Weekending 30 th March 2019 Premier Division leaders Penlan 'A' moved a little bit closer to the title by beating Cam Gears 'A' 27-7 with Marc Castro winning 9-0 and Jarrat Zhang 9-1. Penlan 'C' moved into second place after beating Carmarthen 'C' 29-12, Jacob Young winning 9-1 and Tamlan Eastwood 9-4. Penlan 'B' beat Betws Rugby Club 21-17 thanks to Lucy Page who won 9-2. Penyrheol 'A' beat struggling Cam Gears 'B' 30-4 which almost certainly sends Cam back to the first division for next season.

Penlan 'E' continued their survival bid beating Penlan 'D' 28-8 thanks to Kallum Clement winning 9-1 and Cameron Averis 9-3. Carmarthen 'B' beat Carmarthen 'A' 24-15 with Ryan Trigg winning 8-5, Regina Grech 7-3 and Roger Grech 6-6, this result keeps both teams locked into their mid table battle. Division One leaders Jerusalem Baptist Church beat Penyrheol 'B' 21-16 thanks to Lee Williams winning 9-0. Second place Port Talbot 'A' beat bottom side Penlan 'G' 26-9 with Scott Cundy winning 9-1. Third place Penlan 'H' stayed in contention with two victories, first they beat Penlan 'G' 23-12 with Damian Gadzinsky winning 9-0, they then beat Cam Gears 'C' 27-7 with Damian Gadzinsky winning 9-0 and Jamie Quin 9-1. Port Talbot 'B' also recorded two victories, they narrowly beat Carmarthen 'D' 22-19 despite Paul Tansley winning 9-3 for the losers, the match was decided when Phil Avery and Bill Haddon won the doubles 3-1, they then beat Penlan 'G' 21-12, Phil Avery winning 9-0. Port Talbot 'C' recorded a crucial 22-18 victory over Penyrheol 'C' thanks to Joe Nugent winning 9-3, the match was decided when Mark Hewett won the last game 3-2. Penlan 'F' beat Port Talbot 'C' 28-6, Tony Holt and Colin Towell both winning 9-1. In Division Two the leaders Penyrheol 'D' beat Carmarthen 'E' 23-13, Geoff Garrett winning 9-3. Carmarthen 'E' beat a weakened Penlan 'M' 25-12 with Martyn Farmer winning 9-2. Carmarthen 'F' recorded two victories, they beat Cam Gears 'D' 24-16 despite David Davies winning 9-3 for the losers, Carmarthen then beat Penlan 'J' 21-16, the match was decided when Mike Fischetti won the last game 3-0 giving him match figures of 9-1. Penlan 'K' and Penlan 'J' fought out a 17-17 draw, Angela Averis winning 9-1 for the 'K', the draw was secured when Ieuan Jones and Cai Llewellyn won the doubles 3-2 for the 'J' side. Weekending 23 rd March 2019 Closest match of the week in the Premier Division saw Carmarthen 'A' narrowly beat fourth place Penlan 'B' 21-18, Simon Packer winning the last game 3-2 to secure the victory, Lara Whitton winning 9-2 for the losers. Leaders Penlan 'A' easily beat Penlan 'E' 30-2 allowing them to open the gap at the top. Third place Penlan 'C' moved to within six points of Betws Rugby Club in second place after beating them 25-12 thanks to Au Yueng Nancy and Jacob Young both winning 9-2. Penyrheol 'A' improved their position after beating Penlan 'D' 27-6 with Paul Karabardak and Dennis Bromage both winning 9-0. Carmarthen 'C' eased their relegation worries with a good 24-15 win over Cam Gears 'B', Tim Evans winning 9-1 and Vince Dragone 9-3. Carmarthen 'B' narrowly beat Cam Gears 'A' 19-16 despite Ceri Higgon winning 9-3 for the losers. In Division One Port Talbot 'B' beat leaders Jerusalem Baptist Church 23-14 with Phil Avery winning 9-1.

Second place Port Talbot 'A' closed the gap after beating Cam Gears 'C' 26-13, Scott Cundy winning 9-0. Penyrheol 'B' beat Penyrheol 'C' 30-7. Penlan 'H' also scored an easy 30-7 victory over Carmarthen 'D'. Penlan 'F' beat a weakened Penlan 'G' 30-3. Division Two leaders Penyrheol 'D' easily beat Penyrheol 'E' 30-8. Cam Gears 'D' moved into third place after beating Penlan 'K' 27-14 with Davies winning 9-3. Penyrheol 'E' secured a narrow 20-18 victory over Penlan 'E' despite Cameron John winning 9-3 for the losers. Weekending 16 th March 2019 In this week s Premier Division Carmarthen 'B' inflicted a rare 18-16 defeat on leaders Penlan 'A' despite Jarratt Zhang winning 9-0 for the losers. This enabled Betws Rugby Club to close to within four points of the leaders after beating Cam Gears 'B' 28-6, Darren Beer winning 9-0 and Catherine Jones 9-1. Third place Penlan 'C' maintained their challenge with a 24-16 win over Carmarthen 'A' with Au Yueng Nancy winning 9-2. Penlan 'B' beat a weakened Cam Gears 'A' 29-8, Lucy Page and Lara Whitton both winning 9-2. The relegation battle hotted up this week, Penlan 'E' moving out of the bottom two with a great 20-18win over Penyrheol 'A' despite Dennis Bromage winning 9-1 for the losers. The match was decided when Cameron Averis won the last game 3-2 to secure the victory. Carmarthen 'C' slipped into the relegation places after they were beaten 18-17 by fellow struggler s Penlan 'D', newly crowned Welsh Junior doubles champion Grace Clement led the way winning the penultimate game 3-0 to ensure the win for Penlan and giving her match figures of 9-2. In Division One Penlan 'H' beat leaders Jerusalem Baptist Church 23-17 thanks to Damian Gadzinsky winning 9-0. They then beat Penyrheol 'C' 27-12 with Damian Gadzinsky winning 9-0. Second place Port Talbot 'A' narrowly beat Penlan 'F' 22-18 thanks to Scott Cundy winning 9-0. Carmarthen 'D' scored an important 24-16 victory over Cam Gears 'C' with John Finnemore winning 9-2 and Paul Tansley 9-4. Carmarthen 'D' also beat bottom side Penlan 'G' 24-17 despite Martin Alldrick winning 9-5 for the losers. Penyrheol 'B' secured a narrow 22-20 victory over Port Talbot 'C' thanks to Nye Oyelade winning 9-4. Port Talbot 'B' beat Penyrheol 'C' 21-16 thanks to Phil Avery winning 9-2. In Division Two second place Penlan 'L' had a comfortable 27-7 victory over Carmarthen 'E', Liam Owen winning 9-1. Third place Penlan 'K' were beaten 21-17 by Cam Gears 'D' for who David Davies won 9-1. Penlan 'K' also lost 22-12 to Carmarthen 'F, Mike Fischetti winning 9-0. Please note that Tata Port Talbot 'D' have withdrawn from division two, all points and games won will be deducted from the league table and averages. It has also been announced that there will not be a Swansea Closed this year due to the withdrawal of financial support from The City and County of Swansea. It is hoped that we will run the tournament next year.

Weekending 9 th March 2019 This week saw the semi-finals of The Memorial Cup. The first game saw Premier Division leaders Penlan 'A' beat Port Talbot 'B' 11-4, the game was closer and more exciting than the score suggests. The current Swansea number one Marc Castro winning 6-0 supported by Josh Jenkins 3-2 and Josh Morgan 2-2. In the other match second division Penlan 'J' made the most of their handicap to beat Betws Rugby Club 16-4, Steve Holmes winning 6-0 with Ieuan Jones and Cai Llewellyn adding to the total. This sets up an all Penlan final. In this week s Premier Division leaders Penlan 'A' moved a little closer to the title with an easy 28-6 win over a weakened Penyrheol 'A' with Marc Castro winning 9-0 and Jarrat Zhang 9-1, this defeat drops Penyrheol several places to seventh. Second place Betws Rugby Club kept up the pressure by beating Carmarthen 'A' 24-13 with Catherine Jones winning 9-0. Third place Penlan 'C' stay in touch with a 28-10 win over struggling Penlan 'E', Jacob Young winning 9-1 and Wilson Lai 9-4. Penlan 'B' moved into fourth place following their 27-6 win over bottom side Cam Gears 'B' with Lucy Page and Lara Whitton both winning 9-0. Carmarthen 'B' beat Penlan 'D' 25-9 with Regina Grech winning 9-0 and Ryan Trigg 9-3. Jerusalem Baptist Church moved to the top of Division One with two good wins, first they beat Port Talbot 'C' 24-12 with Lee Williams winning 9-0 and Jamie Hill 9-1 they then had a convincing 30-8 victory over Carmarthen 'D', Lee Williams winning 9-2, Jamie Hill and Matthew Rees both winning 9-3. Penlan 'F' recorded a comfortable 30-7 victory over Port Talbot 'C'. In Division Two Penlan 'L' moved into second place after playing two matches, first they beat Penyrheol 'E' 30-6, Aaron Churchill winning 9-0, Liam Owen and Matthew Dougherty both winning 9-2, then, they were then narrowly beaten 20-19 by Carmarthen 'F' for whom Mike Fischetti won 9-2, the match was decided when Ian McDonald lost the last game 3-2 but gained the required games to secure the victory. Carmarthen 'E' beat Penyrheol 'E' 26-9 with Ashley Wray winning 9-0. Weekending 2 nd March 2019 Premier Division leaders Penlan 'A' maintained their lead after beating Penlan 'B' 23-14 with Marc Castro, who is top of the divisional averages, winning 9-0. Second place Betws Rugby Club kept up their challenge with a 27-13 win over Penlan 'D' with Catherine Jones winning 9-1. Third place Penlan 'C' who have a game in hand look dangerous following their 27-7 win over a weakened Cam Gears 'A', Au Yueng Nancy winning 9-0 and Jacob Young 9-1. Penyrheol 'A' moved into fourth place with a good 24-11 victory over Carmarthen 'C', Paul Karabardak winning 9-0 and Dennis Bromage 9-2. Carmarthen 'A' beat struggling Cam Gears 'B'28-5 with David Lloyd and Micky Marsh both winning 9-0. Penlan 'E' remain in the bottom two following their 27-7 defeat by Carmarthen 'B' for who Regina Grech won 9-0 and Ryan Trigg 9-1. Tata Steel (Port Talbot Works) Sports and Social Club 'A' maintained their lead in Division One by beating Carmarthen 'D' 26-11 with Scott Cundy winning 9-0. Division Two leaders Penyrheol 'D' beat Penlan 'J' 22-10 with Daniel Felton winning 9-0. Weekending 23rd February 2019 The Premier league matches were overshadowed by a titanic quarter final battle between the top two teams, Penlan 'A' and Penlan 'C'. The lead changed throughout and with one game remaining the scores were level at 9-9. Up stepped Marc Castro to win the last game 2-0 to gain the victory and a semi-final match against Tata Steel (Port Talbot Works) Sports and Social Club 'B'. Au Yueng Nancy winning 6-1 for the losers. With the top two teams in the Premier Division playing in the cup Betws Rugby Club took advantage to move into second place with a big 25-10 victory over a weakened Penyrheol 'A', Catherine Jones winning 9-0. Cam Gears 'A' moved up the table after beating Cam Gears 'B' 26-9 with Ceri Higgon winning 9-1. In the other relegation battle Penlan 'E' made another big step towards safety by beating fellow struggler s Carmarthen 'C' 24-13 thanks to Damian Gadzinsky winning 9-1. Carmarthen 'A' beat Penlan 'D' 24-14 which leaves Penlan just above the relegation places. Betws Rugby Club overcame being a player short to beat Penyrheol 'A' 20-15 thanks to Catherine Jones winning 9-0 and Daren Beer 8-5. Cam Gears 'A' moved into third place after an easy 30-1 win over Cam Gears 'B'. Carmarthen 'A' also registered a comfortable 30-6 victory over Penlan 'D'.

Division One leaders Cam Gears 'C' maintained their position despite losing 22-15 to Penyrheol 'C', Doug Smith winning 9-2 for the losers. Second place Penlan 'F' narrowly beat Penyrheol 'B' 18-16 thanks to Colin Towell winning 9-1. The match was decided on the last game when Tony Holt and Colin Towell won the doubles 3-0. In another close game Jerusalem Baptist Church beat Carmarthen 'D' 21-19 with Lee Williams winning 9-3 and Matthew Rees 9-4, the win was secured when Jeff Wood lost the last game 3-2 but gained enough games to win the match. Division Two has new leaders in the form of Penyrheol 'D' who maintained their unbeaten record by beating previous leaders Penlan 'K' 27-13 with Daniel Felton winning 9-2. Penlan 'J' easily beat Penlan 'M' 24-10 with Steve Holmes and Ieuan Jones both winning 9-0.
