Ronald McDonald House Kids Helping Kids Campaign - Jan 1 - Feb 23. Parent/Volunteer Meeting and Training Oklahoma County 4-H Parent/Volunteer business meeting and training session scheduled for Thursday, January 8 from 6:30-8:00 pm at the OSU Extension Center. Training on "Risk Management" and minilessons to use for your club educational programs. Light meal will be served from 6:00-6:30 pm - bring your favorite dessert to share. Record Book Training Record book training is scheduled for Thursday, January 15 from 6:30-8:00 pm at the OSU Extension Center. The training will be taught by Liz Taylor, Grady County 4-H Educator. Learn the components of a record book, goals setting and planning for a successful 4-H career. Hands-on and fun. We will be sharing current scholarship information, State project goals, and deadlines for entries. You will not want to miss this valuable training. Bring your questions. SW District Volunteer Conference Mark your calendar for the SW District Parent/Volunteer Conference "4-H Market Place - Something for Everyone" on January 31, 2015. The conference will also host the District Communication Contest, Food Showdown, Horse Council Meeting, and Mini-Fair Display. Location for the conference is the Great Plains Technology Center and the Communication Contests will be held at the Comanche County Fairgrounds, in Lawton. This conference is a great way to learn more about new state programs, gain new ideas for your club, meet new people and get energized for the new 4-H year. Registration is $10 (includes lunch), youth participation in competitive events is an additional $5 per, and conference t-shirts are $12. Larry McWilliams and Stuart Boyes will be recognized as our Oklahoma County Volunteers of the Year. Join us
in celebrating their contributions to Oklahoma County and the 4-H Robotics team. Registration is required no later than January 8 to reserve your spot. Jr. Camp Counselors/Staff If you like summer camp, working along other teens, andenjoy kids 9-13 years of age - you will want to make application to become a Jr. Camp Counselor/Staffer. We will be joining Noble County to host Jr. Camp at Camp Redlands. Twelve teens from each county (ages 14-18) will be selected to serve at the Jr. Summer Camp scheduled for June 8-11. You will be a part of the team that determines the theme, plans the workshops, organizes fun activities and makes memories that will last a lifetime. Applications are due no later than February 27. Oklahoma County Spring Livestock Show Oklahoma County Spring Livestock Show dates have been set for Feb 23-25, 2015 to be held at the Jones High School Livestock Barn. See Show supplement for more details. Feb 23 - Goats and Sheep @ 2pm Feb 24 - Beef @ 2pm Feb 25 - Swine @ 9am. Mar 2 - Bonus Auction Ronald McDonald Kids Helping Kids Oklahoma 4-H members will soon be starting to raise money for the 2015 Kids Helping Kids Campaign. While the campaign is a fundraiser for local 4-H clubs across the state, it is also a community service project for the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Oklahoma City, a nonprofit organization that provides "a home away from home" for families with seriously ill or injured children who are being treated in the Oklahoma City area. 4-H'ers across the state will be asking friends, neighbors, local businesses and caring strangers for donations in exchange for a coupon to participating McDonald's restaurants in Oklahoma. State 4-H Horse Communication Contest The State 4-H Horse Communication contest will be held Saturday, February 7, in Stillwater, at the OSU Animal Science Building. There will be an additional contest this year consisting of a digital photo contest. 4- Hers will be able to submit their photos electronically and need not be present at the contest to participate. The following events will be conducted at the State 4-H Horse Communication Contest: Horse Quiz Bowl, Horse

State 4-H Horse Media Contest Here is a great opportunity to show off your photography skills. This new contest, 4-H Horse Media, will consist ofdigital photos submitted electronically. This will allow for easier submission, and more opportunities to display photos at various events throughout the year. Guidelines, release form, and Photo Entry form attached here. Pickens Legacy Scholarship Applications Due Feb. 6, 2015 It's time to apply for the Oklahoma 4-H Pickens Legacy Scholarships! This year, apply for 7 different scholarships, five $2,000 awards and two $1,000 awards. Most of the scholarships are available exclusively to graduating high school seniors who are accepted to one of OSU campuses, but two are also available to current OSU students. Must be a 4-H member to apply.
The application and two copies of the 4-H Pickens Legacy News Information Sheet will be due on Feb. 6 at noon to the OSU County Office. Attention youth without any, just a little or with a lot of experience with horse judging activities. This State Judging Practice Clinic is for all of you! With the help of college coaches, members of the past and present OSU Collegiate Horse Judging Team will work with small groups of youth similar to a practice workout. This is an awesome opportunity to learn and practice your skills in preparation for the State Contest April 11. OKC 4-H Zoo Snooze Mark Your Calendar and Save the Date Who: Members 9-19 years Date: March 27-28, 2015 Cost: $32 per member and $17 per adults (OK County Registration Due - March 2, 2015) Come stay the night at the Oklahoma City Zoo on March 27-28, 2015, for the annual 4-H Zoo Snooze. Learn how animals "lighten up" as zoo educators teach us how some animals create their own light. Participants will then experience the zoo in a very unique way as they go on a night hike through the zoo. The following day, participants get to experience the zoo when the animals are fresh and generally very active as they enter the zoo on their own an hour prior to the zoo opening to the public. Zoo Snooze registration includes all day admission to the zoo on Saturday morning. Each year the 4-H Zoo Snooze fills, and registrations will be accepted on a first come/first served basis. OK Outdoor Adventure Outdoor enthusiasts wanted for exciting summer adventure Oklahoma 4-H'ers who are 14 years old or older and looking for an outdoor adventure this summer should make plans now to take part in the Oklahoma Outdoor Adventure 2015. The week-long experience is slated for July 28-August 5, 2015, in the Weminuche Wilderness north of Durango, CO. This will provide 4-H Outdoor Adventurers a new experience as they will travel from Durango, CO, to the trailhead on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. After departing the train adventurers will hike into the backcountry to spend 5 days and 4 nights hiking and camping. Cost is $750. OK County Calendar Dates You have many opportunities throughout the year to participate in Oklahoma County 4-H programs, events, and activities. Attached is the current calendar of events and activities - please put these dates on your calendar and plan on having a great year in Oklahoma County. While we hope that these dates are correct, at times there will be changes and updates to the calendar. All staff and volunteers working with 4-H youth are required to take the 4-H Working With Minors training each year. Sign up to take this on-line course through the extension Campus. Use the following instructions to complete the WWMtraining. There is a 14 question quiz taken after viewing the session (the quiz cannot be completed without viewing the materials). The participant must get an 80% on the quiz to obtain a completion certificate. The certificate should be printed and submitted to the county office. Volunteer certificates will be recorded in ACCESS 4-H and the actual certificate placed in their personnel file. Instructions for becoming an extension Campusstudent: Go to http://campus.extension.org Click on "4H & Youth" Click on "<enter your course name here>" (Oklahoma 4-H: Working With Minors) Click "Continue" (scroll to the bottom of the page, left corner) Create a new account and start the course! 4-H Key Club Membership in the Oklahoma 4-H Key Club is an honor extended only to top 4- H members. To become a member you: 1. Must be a 4-H member. 2. Must be at least 15 years old or older on January 1, on the year of application. 3. Must submit completed application form by the published state record book deadline. 4. Must accumulate the minimum number of points (400) on the application form. 5. Must be approved by the responsible county Cooperative Extension Educator. 6. Must make at least one presentation to a 4-H Group about Key Club. 7. Must make at least one presentation to a non-4-h Group, such as non-4-h youth or adults, about the 4-H youth development program. Click here for application form.
