Footnotes Established 1983 May / June 2011 Indianapolis, IN President s Corner Hi Members, We made it through a winter of wild weather, and I am happy that spring has arrived. While the temperatures are still cool, Indy Dancers and our guests warmed things up with a great evening of music, dance and food at our 28 th Anniversary celebration. We also had an opportunity to recognize the efforts of several members who volunteered many hours to make our organization and our events unique in the Indianapolis dance community. Thanks to all our volunteers and everyone who attended this special event. You have an opportunity to join our dedicated volunteers and provide leadership by serving as our president or vice president. Yes, it is that time again for elections to fill these offices for 2011-2012. We will have nominations at our business meetings in May and in June prior to our election. If you have an interest, there is time to learn about the operation of Indy Dancers and the responsibility of the officers. You don t have to worry that you will be doing this job alone. You will be supported by people who have previously served in these offices, our Secretary Margaret Bell, Treasurer Don Mindach, the Board of Trustees and our members. If you have enjoyed being a member of Indy Dancers, this is an opportunity for you to lead our club and give something back. For the past month, I asked for comments about the venues used for our dances. The responses were appreciated and greater than I expected. It was clear that the venues you liked best and attended most frequently were the most convenient. With higher costs for transportation, this is not likely to change. There were a variety of reasons why a venue was not favored, and I will work to make improvements when possible. While the surveys are informative, your attendance is the best indicator of where we should dance. Tuesday and Saturday Dance Lessons at 7:00 Scott & Yulia Shook Professional instructors teaching technique, lead, and new moves Don t miss their fun lessons! Scott & Yulia are also available for Private Lessons - Receive Special Discount Contact them at 317-294-2749 ninedance03@yahoo.com or at Starlite Ballroom Special events are planned for the coming months, beginning with our Western Heroes Party dance in May and the Luau in June. Ten-gallon hats and western attire encouraged and let s party to our favorite Indy Dancers music at Starlite on May 21. Our dancers always look forward to a great party at our Luau, so make sure this dance is on your June calendar. May and June are also the months to renew your membership. Thanks to you, the number of our members has been quite stable over the past years. This gives us the opportunity to have events such as our Thanksgiving dinner, holiday party, anniversary dance and luau. See Rheta to renew your membership and enjoy all the benefits of being an Indy Dancer. Life is a party, so dance! Dave

Don t forget, we are on facebook. NEW BUSINESS: Everyone had a great time at our Anniversary dance on Saturday, April 2nd at the Murat Shrine in the Arabian room. It was a thrill to celebrate 28 years of dancing! A special Thank You to all that attended the dance and/or helped make our event a fun and successful celebration. We wanted this to be a special evening and from the comments, it was...great venue, music, food and friends. We took time to recognize all the volunteers who make Indy Dancers the organization/dance we all enjoy. Dance Workshop special event not on your April calendar workshop on intermediate-to-advanced patterns for Cha-cha given by Scott and Yulia at the Greenwood Moose on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 6:30 PM with our dance starting at 7:30 PM no separate fee for workshop, just regular $6 admission for members and $11 for nonmembers. We are approaching election time for president and vicepresident. Nominations will be at the May and June meetings with final elections in June. Please consider running for one of these offices. Members with a variety of skills and who are interested in dancing for the fun of it to lead Indy Dancers are needed. There are several people that will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about these positions and will be there to help you if you desire. Do you ever think about the enjoyment you have in Indy Dancers, or what your life would be without your friends in this Club? Consider volunteering and encourage those you feel would be good candidates. There being no further business, the meeting was closed after a motion was made and seconded.
