It seems like Mother Nature cannot make up her mind, warm, cold, and then warm again that s Mother Nature for you. Spring will be here before you know it, and speaking of spring, Spring Fling is right around the corner. This year the theme is a Hawaiian Weekend, which sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. For the people that are going, should have made their reservations by now, and if you have not please do so. If you made your reservations last year, you might want to call and make sure that your reservations are correct. On February 13 th we have 2 seminars #1 Team Riding, #2 Distracted Drivers, and on February 27 th we have 2 more seminars, #1 Medic First Aid Refresher Course (CPR Refresher Course), #2 Motorists Awareness Seminar. Please remember our Missouri District Rally in Branson Missouri. If you haven t made your reservations, you might want to do that at this time before the hotel of your choice is completely booked up. Is it Spring Yet??????? I just read an article today that talked about the health benefits of long rides on a motorcycle, I could not agree more and I am ready to ride!!!!! We had our first Chapter Z Safety Day last month, with two more great classes taught by Mike Bayuk, we had both Co-rider and Crash Scene on January 16, 2016 at Mercy Jefferson. We had 20 members is attendance and we all enjoyed lunch at Main Street Cafe afterwards. Our monthly dinner ride was cancelled for January due to a water main break that closed the restaurant. On January 23 and 23, both Paul and I, and Tom Braun attended the Winter Warm-Up in Springfield, Illinois. We all had a great time and would like to thank Mary Adams and her entire district team for a great weekend!!!! While we were playing in Illinois, 13 other Chapter Z members attended the Chapter P Fish Fry. Keep your fingers crossed for an early spring and watch those emails for impromptu rides!!!!! REDUCING THE RISK Mike and Barb Bayuk Chapter Z Educators BRRRRRRR. IT S TOO COLD TO RIDE!! I just returned from my patio doors watching my Golden Retrievers romping and running around outside in the snow covered yard. I glanced up at the outside ice encrusted thermometer which indicates that it is a balmy 15 degrees on the other side of the glass door. As I looked across the snow covered grass I thought to myself what can I do with my Goldwing. Well taking it out for a spin on the snow covered streets was certainly out of the question. What can we do as a motorcycle chapter? Then the idea broadsided me! What an awesome time to catch up on some of the well organized and informative Rider Education Programs that GWRRA has to offer! The Rider Education Program (REP) has a number of interesting and informative seminars that are presented by certified Gold Wing University Trainers. A University Trainer just presented the Core Rider Ed Seminars of The Co Rider Seminar and Motorcycle Crash Scene Response Seminar this past January. This month Chapter Z is sponsoring the Team Riding Seminar, Distracted Driver Seminar, Medic First Aid Refresher Course and a Motorist Awareness Seminar. These Seminars present an excellent opportunity to update your status or advance in the REP levels program. So while the weather outside is not motorcycle friendly consider taking advantage of the educational seminars provide by GWRRA and presented by University Trainers. Also don t forget the fellowship at these gatherings. There is always a good story of a ride or trip from last season. OH, AND DON T FORGET THERE ARE DOUGHNUTS! UNTIL NEXT TIME REMEMBER RIDE OFTEN, RIDE HARD BUT MOST OF ALL RIDE SMART Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge 5
Our Motto... Share the Road! Our Mission... To Facilitate A Reduction In Motorcycle Crashes With Other Motor Vehicles. Vernon and Pat Watts Chapter Z Motorcycle Awareness Division Looks like Pat & Vern have taken their motto of Share the Road to another level. Maybe Share the Hospital Room would be more like it. This past month had these two tagteaming in and out of the hospital such that it was hard keeping track of them. Getting the low down was like listening to the Abbott & Costello Who s On First routine...i don t Know! They are doing better and promised to get back with Sharing The Road with us next month. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they continue on the road towards good health. Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge 6
