Pam is car hunting :) As we have noted "ALL" River Roads Chapter meetings will now be held at GRRHD! For those that wish to eat we will charge a modest fee of $5 per person! Our October meeting will include a visit from a representative of Shiloh Ranch. This REP will enlighten us on details about this facility! Most of you are probably aware of the annual Johnny Watts Shiloh Run on the first Saturday in November! Johnny was a member of RRC up until his passing. His legacy is carried on today with this event!! This run will be November 5th, 2016. Details will Ladies of Harley Pam DeJaynes- LOH Officer be covered in the November newsletter. Just be careful of the deer, farm machinery and leaves on the roadway! The October HOG Waller will be Wednesday, October 5 at Great River Road Harley Davidson, social hour and food is at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. As was announced last month, due to the increasing difficulty of finding places to accommodate our group for meal and meetings coupled with the lack of attendance at the away meetings, regular meetings will be held at the Great River Road Harley Davidson store each month until further notice. There will be food and drink available at each meeting and $5.00 will be collected from each individual partaking to help defray the cost. On Saturday, October 8 a Memorial Ride to remember and honor those River Road HOG Members who have passed on is scheduled. It will be a MO ride so don t forget your helmet! IL riders will leave from GRRHD promptly at 9:00 a.m. We will meet up with MO riders in Hannibal at the Ayerco Convenience Store on Mark Twain Avenue (NOT the one on Hwy 61) and will plan to leave there at 9:30 a.m. This will be a full day ride over very scenic roads unless temperatures or weather conditions dictate a shorter version. A lunch stop at a very cool place is planned. Don t miss this one!!! Officers meeting will be Tuesday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. The location will be announced at the October HOG meeting. Every HOG member is invited to attend, not just officers. Ride and have fun..but be careful out there. Days are getting shorter; enjoy riding while we can before cold weather comes. Paul Pogue

Volume 28, Issue 10 Page 4 Rear View Mirror Valetta Franks Historian My how the time flies. It is hard to believe I have been the Historian/Photographer for the River Roads Hog Chapter for 4 years. The position has been an interesting one. Going through Chapter photos and memorabilia show a Chapter rich in friendship, comradery and love of riding. Hard to sift through those photos without smiling and wanting to be part of such a positive experience. Photos also show care and compassion Chapter members caring enough to participate in fundraisers like Salvation Army Toy Run and Shiloh Ranch Run, or caring enough to honor our war veteran s by participating in rides to the Illinois Veteran s Home, Fishing for Freedom or Honor Flight. These are just a few examples of the good and positive works our Chapter is committed to. Another advantage of serving as Historian/Photographer has been developing a more personal relationship with Board members. It has been quite a pleasure to get to know these wonderful, dedicated folks who have been so easy to work with. I tend to be a bit of a wall flower so serving on the Board has been a great way to also get to know Chapter members and our Chapter Dealership owners better. Getting to know Barb and Larry better and hearing their commitment to our Chapter sure made the transition from TNT to Great River Road HD easier. While I have enjoyed my position, I believe there are many ways to fulfill this position so it is time to step aside to make room for new ideas and new ways of doing things. I would like to encourage you to consider accepting the position of Historian or Photographer when new Board members are elected in November. I d be happy to chat with you and try to answer any questions about the position. You can email or call me at 217-228-1076. A WORD FROM OUR DEALER Larry Ernst Hello from Great River Road Harley-Davidson! WOW the Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine is really special! The first new engine in 17 years brought more horsepower, more torque and more fuel economy while reducing emissions and vibration. Harley really got it right with this one! What I noticed when I rode one is the significant increase in torque. Twist the throttle and feel the difference. I encourage everyone to come in and test ride a 2017 Milwaukee-Eight 107 and feel the difference. Along with the new engine, Harley put in a new suspension both front and rear. You will notice a difference. Thank you to all that come out and sampled the wings in our Harley s and Hot Wings party. It was a great success and a good fund raiser for the Madonna House here in Quincy. Thank you to Spuds, Nick Allen, the Muddy River Riders and the rest of the chefs that brought out wings to our event. I was hoping to get a HOG entry, but we did get several HOG members that came out to participate. We appreciate your support. We have a ride leaving GRR HD Saturday, October 1 at 11:00am for the Barry Apple festival. I hope to see a good turnout for this event. We will have our Fall Open House on Saturday, October 22. We are coordinating with Blessing Hospital to raise money for the Blessing Breast Center in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. A portion of all Pink Label sales during the month of October will be donated to the Breast Center, as well as various fund raisers throughout the month. We will have a ride leaving GRR HD on Saturday the 22. It will be our second annual Photo Scavenger Hunt. It was a great success last year and I think everyone that rode really enjoyed the day. Come out and join us for this fun ride and fund raiser and see if you can figure out the clues! Thursday, October 27th we are having a Monster Truck at the dealership to sign autographs. The Great River Road Harley- Davidson Monster Truck Monster Bash will happen at Scotties Fun Spot Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29. Come in to the dealership to get your tickets. On Wednesday, October 5, come to GRR HD for the HOG meeting and meet our new General Manager. His name is Craig Hirt and he comes to GRR HD with 17 years of experience in the Harley world. We are very excited to have him onboard and are looking forward to introducing him to everyone. Larry, Barb, Katie and Henry

Page 5 River Roads Chapter Harley Owners Group Take a Breath & Plan year end rides Road Captain - Jim Wolf And here it is October! It is my favorite time of the year. Actually, I have sort of a love/hate relationship with this time of year. I love everything about Autumn, the cool weather, fall colors, festivals etc. However I hate what this time of year means. Fall, beginning in October signals that riding season is coming to an end and what follows is Winter, ugh! Shoot, I even saw Christmas decorations on the shelf at one of our local Home Improvement stores. What is up with that? So, as Autumn moves in, we wrap up the season with as much riding as we can. Kind of like a squirrel, storing nuts for the winter. We bikers store up rides, which will help get us through the cold months that are sure to follow. Never fear though, because around these parts we usually won t see snow for at least another two months. So, speaking of rides to wrap up the season, we are going to start off October 1 with a ride to the Barry Apple festival. Leaving GRRHD at 11:00am we will take a scenic route to Barry, arriving in time for the 1pm parade. Leaving Barry, we will swing around in a loop back to Quincy. Possibly a stop for hot cider along the way. The following weekend on the 8th, Paul Pogue will take the lead for our HOG Memorial Ride. This will be a Day ride to honor all the HOG members past and present who have past away. Paul will provide details during our October HOG Waller. Later in the month, on the 22nd, GRRHD will hold their Open House. I am told Larry and the crew have a ride special planned. I do not have details, only know that it is worth saving the date, so plan on attending. More riding in November as that is always a busy month for rides, not to mention those other end of the year Holidays start crowding our schedule. I want to end this months article with a ponder. I consider myself a loyal HOG member. I am even a Life Member of HOG. So as the November officer elections are nearing, I am considering my evolvement. I can t say how I will support the chapter, only that I will. I do not want to see our chapter get stale as the same crew take the helm, and hope I am not the only one. All we need are members who want to the chapter to thrive in the upcoming years. So are you one of the members? If so, the talk to a current officer about how you can help the chapter. Ride easy and fast! Look forward to riding with you. 50/50 drawing at each meeting! Chapter Membership I m just going to repeat from last month. Getting the officer positions filled is very important! Officer elections are coming up very soon. Here is your chance to get more involved with the chapter. There will be several positions open including Membership. None of the positions are gender specific. Membership is not difficult, however, at times it takes a little bit of time. If no one volunteers for the position, I will start drafting :) I will be happy to answer any questions about the position and to help get you get going with it. I have been an RRC officer 8 of the 14 years I have been a member. It's time to bring in new blood!
