Part 5 seeks your views on the Membership & Other Items. Please take the time to make your views known good & bad each surveys results are summarised and presented to Club Council prior to the AGM s. Winter Snooker Competition I will be running a snooker competition this winter. This will be knock out match play event with the main rounds played over best of 3 frames and the semi-finals and final over best of 5. No handicaps will be allotted so be lucky in the draw. Entry fee is 5.00p/p payable in the bar from today. Closing date for entries is Friday November 9 th with R1 commencing from Monday Nov 12 th. There will be prizes for the winner, runner up & highest tournament break. All over 18 s are welcome to enter. Tree Report Following Storm Ali You will be aware that Storm Ali brought down a number of large trees around the course. Following on from this the club employed the expertise of a qualified arborist to survey the course trees and works related to his recommendations will take place over the coming
months. This survey included a H&S assessment of the trees along the boundary with the 7 th hole and along the Kingston Road, as well as other targeted areas. Fallen Timber after Storm Ali Following a recent decision of Club Council the felled timber from Storm Ali will be donated to a local charitable cause TUS which is part of the Galway City Partnership and work closely with local housing agencies. This will be the policy from now on. Thank you to Council member John Royliston for facilitating same. Senior Ladies Invitation The Senior Ladies Competition for ages 55 and over has commenced. It is played every Thursday from 10.00am - 12.00 noon. Membership is 10.00 and game play is 2.00. This year in order to encourage players to partake in as many Thursdays as possible, bonus points will be awarded for senior Lady Golfer of the Year. New members welcome. Cardiac Screening Service Available On-Site A mobile cardiac screening clinic will visit the club and will be open to members from 9:30am-5pm on Saturday October 27 th next. Up to 100 young people die each year in Ireland from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) 1 in 300 people may have a cardiac abnormality The national register recently reported that the incidents of SADS are higher in I Ireland than many other European countries. In Italy cardiac screening is mandatory for anyone aged 12 to 35 years involved in competitive sport for the past 25 years. They have reduced the incidents of SADS by 89%. The GAA s Medical Scientific and Welfare Committee and the International Rugby Board recommend cardiac screening for all players over the age of 14 years The European Society of Cardiology & the International Olympic Committee recommends cardiac screening. The AMS service is based on the recommendations of the above named organisations. The cost of the screening is 67.50per person or it s FREE IF YOU ARE A LAYA HEALTHCARE MEMBER. Ensure proposed landing areas are clear of fellow golfers before playing your shots, especially on holes 7, 12, 15 & 17 Stand a safe distance from the person swinging the club. Yell Fore to warn fellow golfers of errant shots whether hit by you or not. Do not play under the influence of an intoxicant. Be aware of your surrounding at all times. Take care near all water hazards.
