Our own Brad and Connie Garner had a motorcycle-deer accident on the way to Tulsa. Fortunately they were not hurt personally, just the bike. I do not have a lot of details, other than they were in Missouri and it was about 5 in the afternoon. Brad, being as good a rider as he is, was able to keep the bike up after hitting the deer. They were riding with Tom and Shelly Rushman who were riding their own bikes, so they could double up and all were able to continue to Tulsa. Brad and Connie were a little late for their inter views, but composed themselves and represented Region D as well as they always do. Unfortunately, Region N won International Couple of the Year. Now that all are back from Tulsa and other places West, we can focus on the District Rally in West Branch on July 29 Aug. 1. The deadline for registration was July 1, but I would think that if you want to go, they would still except your registration. I know that there are a few of us going and camping at the fairgrounds. You can contact me, Ed, or Vicki Philo and we can let you know more about when some of us are leaving to go. Hope to have a lot of Chapter W there. We are responsible for handling the door prizes. We have done this job before, so some are old hands at it. Ed and Vicki are also in the middle of planning our 25 th annual Toy Run. Vicki needs help with taking care of a few areas and would like to have chair people in place so that it takes some of the pressure off of her. We want this Toy Run to be a super celebration of 25 years of successful fund raising. One request that Ed and Vickie announced at our gathering is that if you know of a former or other member who is not really involved anymore, please invite them to the Toy Run this year to help us celebrate our 25 th year. Without them doing it before us, we would not have had 25 Toy Runs to celebrate. Also, if you have any ideas for this Toy Run, please contact Ed or Vicki Philo and they will talk to you about them. Hope to see all at our next Gathering on August 9 th and please ride safe. We have had a couple members have accidents this year and all have come out ok. We do not need to have anymore. Ride safe and enjoy the rest of the riding season. Sincerely Your Chapter Director, Craig White Page 1

Blessing #1 is I must have a Guardian Angle watching over me. Blessing #2 is I belong to GWRRA and am in the levels program. That one I have to explain. I was going to go to Cabela s and my first thought was to change to my ¾ open face and not put my riding coat on. Because of my being a level 3 I put all my gear on anyway. I could hear the group that did go on the ride close by but I didn t know how close they actually were. Blessing #3, Vicki was not on the bike with me. I had asked her to go but she didn t. Back to the accident. I was just leaving Tecumseh and was by the community center. I had looked down at my radio controls on the gas tank {I know - stupid thing to do} and when I looked up a car had stopped to turn left into the drive. I had time to lock the brakes and was going to try to swerve around the right. I could see I didn t have time to swerve and ending up hitting the car almost straight on. I went air born over the right handlebar and landed and rolled to a stop along the right side of the road. I remember hearing my tires skidding and the impact. I didn t hit anything else but I took the right handlebar to the inside of my right leg on the way off the bike. Blessing #4 was when I came to a stop I looked at my bike in the road and when I looked over to the other side of the road, Kent, Annett, and Craig were pulling over and I knew things would be taken care of. Kent got to me first and held C spine, Annett took care of my personal things, and Craig called Vicki for me. Blessing #5, I knew my guys from Tecumseh Fire Dept. were going to take good care of me. I did try to stop them from cutting off my coat but I will be getting a new one. All in all I feel extremely lucky to have walked out of the hospital under my own power with a very sore back and deep bruise on my leg. I ask all of you that think the riding gear are too hot or uncomfortable to please rethink your own safety. My bike can and will be replaced. My skin or serious injuries or my life or yours can t. I have been riding bikes most of my life and this is my first time I have been in an accident on the road. Sometimes we think it won t happen to me. Take my word for it, just a second of not being fully alert to what is going on around you will bite you in the. Thank you to all that was there. Kent, Annett, and Craig for taking care of everything, and God for watching over me. In closing, we will still be going to the state rally but probably on four wheels. A very thankful ACD, Ed Page 2
