Sir Swat-a-lot Alvardo Parker has 22 blocked shots through eight games this year, which is more than Chudi Chinweze, the Horned Frogs leading shot blocker in 2005-06, had all of last year (21). Parker ranks first in the league in blocks per game (2.8). Had three highlight-reel blocks against Texas Tech, including one that turned into a Parker two-handed slam on the other end of the floor. Tallied five blocks to match the 15th-best single-game total in school history in his debut. Averaged a league-best 2.5 blocks per game last year for Frank Phillips Junior College. Low Totals held Grambling State to just 46 points, the fewest allowed by a team since a 71-46 victory over 10th-ranked Louisville on Feb. 17, 2004. Grambling shot just 29.4 percent from the floor and committed 30 turnovers in the contest. The Horned Frogs also gave up just 46 points to UTSA on Dec. 6 in a 16-point win. UTSA shot less than 33 percent from the field. scored just 35 points against Oklahoma. It was the Horned Frogs lowest point total since a 35-26 victory over East Texas State on Dec. 1, 1983 and tied for the 10th-lowest since 1940. s 12 second-half points were the fewest by a Frog team in a second half since 1940. All s Well That Ends Wall junior Ryan Wall keyed the Horned Frogs double-overtime victory over UTA by sinking all 10 of his free throw attempts in the extra periods. He finished with a career-high 27 points (his previous best was 12) and totaled 12 points in the two overtimes, including a driving layup to tie the score with less than 30 seconds left in the first OT. Finished the game 19-of-22 from the charity stripe, tying for the secondmost free throws made in history (Dick O Neal 19-for-23 at Baylor on 2/22/55). His 22 attempts tied for fifth-most in school history (Kurt Thomas vs. Illinois-Chicago on 12/3/94). Start Me Up Femi Ibikunle is the most experienced starer on the team, as he has made 84 career collegiate starts. He is followed in starting assignments by Neiman Owens (38), Brent Hackett (37), Neil P. Dougherty (11), Kevin Langford (11) and Ryan Wall (1). has used the same starting lineup in every game this year: Dougherty, Hackett, Owens, Langford and Ibikunle. Lone Star Links Eight of s 12 players hail from Texas. Five come from the Fort Worth-Dallas metroplex, while three grew up in the Houston area. Prior to Brent Hackett s arrival in the fall of 2004, had not signed a player from Fort Worth since Juan Bragg in 1994. Some Real Family Trees The Frogs have two father-son combinations, as Head Coach Neil Dougherty is the father of Neil P. Dougherty, while Director of Operations Sean Woods is the father of freshman guard Martiese Morones. Some Coaching Family Trees The staff has worked for or played for six current college head coaches (Jim Boeheim, Billy Donovan, Mike Krzyzewski, Rick Pitino, Tubby Smith and Roy Williams) who have won national championships. Head Coach Neil Dougherty was recruited by and played one year for Krzyzewski at Army and served as a Williams assistant for seven seasons at Kansas. Assistant coach Rick Callahan began his career by serving six years on Boeheim s staff at Syracuse. Director of operations Sean Woods played for Pitino at Kentucky, while Donovan and Smith served as assistants on the Wilcats staff. In addition, Dougherty mentored 2005-06 NBA Coach of the Year Avery Johnson, of the Dallas Mavericks, during Johnson s lone season at Cameron University (1984-85) in Lawton, Okla. Get Your Programs has just five returning players, but the group had made a total of 388 appearances prior to this year, an average of 78 per player. In addition, the quintet combined for 138 starts, which figures to 28 per individual the equivalent of a full season per player. The Horned Frogs have seven newcomers on the team s 12-man roster: two junior transfers (Ryan Wall and Alvardo Parker), one sophomore transfer (Kevin Langford), and four true freshmen (Jason Ebie, Keion Mitchem, Martiese Morones and Luke Tauscher).
