REMINDERS Shirt tails shall be tucked in at all times while playing golf. When parking, please do not park at the end of parking lot rows as it makes it difficult for cars that are properly parked to back out of their spot. Smokers - please respect the appearance of Club property by disposing of cigarette and cigar butts in an ashtray. Walkers please be aware of golfers at all times on the golf course. Golfers have the right-of-way at all times and getting hit by a golf ball can be extremely dangerous and painful. Walking on the golf course is done at the walker s risk. Tennis News TENNIS REPORT, BILL JONES Happy winter everyone So far it has been a relatively mild winter, and for that we are thankful. As you read this newsletter, the first major tennis tournament will have been played and we are hoping all of your favorite men and women did well. The Australian Open is often referred to as the Happy Slam for its festive atmosphere and large diverse fan support. It is very strange to watch the players in the heat of the Australian summer playing, while we are waiting for spring here in Eastern North Carolina. We hope that with the new 2016 tennis season started, you get a chance to come out and stretch those legs and get on your courts to play great tennis and enjoy camaraderie with your friends. So let s all get out and PLAY Ladies and Men s League Season Starting The USTA league schedule is starting in February and if you would like to play on a team, we will get you to the right captain to sign up and play. Singles league (team only needs 3 players on the roster). Play begins February 6th. Spring league (team only needs 6 players on the roster). Play begins March 5th. Cold weather conditions hasn t stopped these ladies from enjoying tennis at the Club. Pictured from left to right: Danielle Ouano, Janet Day, Kelly Murphy and Karen Segal. There is a signup sheet in the Tennis shop and if you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them for you. We hope you get out and play. PAGE 6

Tennis News Tennis Member of the Month This wonderful lady league and social player is one of the most dedicated tennis players we have here at NBGCC. She keeps her schedule busy with a healthy regular foursome each week and she works tremendously hard to bring her game to that next level. She loves tennis and she wears her hard work and dedication on her sleeve. She is very busy with her boys and her family here in New Bern, yet she still finds the time to keep her game at a very high level. You can recognize her tenacity by how much ground she covers on the court every time she plays. Her smile is infectious and her enthusiasm is contagious..do you know who this is??? Our member of the month is none other than Kristie McAden. We are so proud of how far she has come and the sky is the limit to how far she will go. Keep at it Kristie We are all thankful that you and your family are members here at NBGCC February is Valentines month. For the Valentines weekend, we will be having a sale in the tennis shop. Look for your email to let you know what would be a great gift for your tennis playing loved ones Weather conditions and your courts: February is such a tricky month for your courts. We can have snow or we can be sunny and in the 50 s. So having that in mind, please check in with the tennis shop if you are planning on playing. We will work as hard as we can to make sure your tennis courts are in good shape and ready to play. Director s Tip of the Month What type of tennis player are you? What type of tennis player would you like to be? Those are two of the questions that every tennis teacher needs to ask their student. The answers that we get can wildly vary and it is the student who determines the final answer to these questions. We, as instructors, are always looking to further our education to keep up with what is current in tennis. The answers to these questions have to be realistic. If you are 5 foot 2 and new to the game, your serve will probably not reach the 100 MPH range. But with that in mind, we can get a really accurate serve for someone of that body type and size. When you work at your tennis game, it is no different then the game of golf. Proper practice will result in better matches. So let us help you out with the two questions all tennis players want to know to be the player you want to be, you have to know the player you already are. PAGE 7

Golf News STAR PERFORMER Congratulations to Jason Skladan for one of the best up and downs I have ever seen Jason got up and down from behind the cart shed off of the 18 tee box. No need to ask how his tee shot ended up where it did; maybe a squirrel had something to do with it Regardless, the ensuing chip shot and putt were something to behold. Great up and down Jason Attention New Members If you would like to receive weekly emails about what s going on with the golf course, please send an email to alanferebee@gmail.com and I will be more than happy to add you to our list. #1733 Early morning on the course, captured by Walt Crayton.
