LET S GO JETS!!! Hi Everybody! It is official our fall season has come to a close. The games have been played and the post season awards distributed. I d like to share the final information for the season. Our fall teams represented East Meadow High School well on the field. Many of our teams qualified for playoff opportunities with our football team capturing the ultimate prize a Nassau County Championship. Teams reaching the playoffs included the football, boys volleyball, girls soccer, girls volleyball, field hockey, girls tennis, boys cross country, and girls cross country. The success on the athletic field was matched in the classroom. Nine of our varsity teams were recognized as NYSPHSAA scholar-athlete teams. To qualify for this award a pre-determined number of team members must maintain a grade point average of 90% or better. Teams receiving the award this season were: boys and girls cross country, field hockey, golf, boys and girls soccer, girls swimming, girls tennis, and boys volleyball. I d also like to recognize a few of our teams for their work assisting charity organizations and our community. The boys and girls volleyball programs and field hockey teams supported breast cancer research with car washes and their participation in Dig Pink and Hit Pink events. Our cheerleaders volunteer to work with the PAL program by coaching and mentoring young athletes. Their time and interest is appreciated. The biggest story of the fall at East Meadow High School was the football team s outstanding season. Not only did the team defeat 3 time defending champion Freeport for the county title but the team was selected by the county s coaches as the top team in Nassau and

winners of the Rutgers Cup. East Meadow last won this prestigious award in 1964. The team broke the Long Island scoring record with 544 points this season. Senior Rob Healy won the Thorpe Award, which is presented to the top player in Nassau County. During his standout season Rob broke two Nassau scoring records with 38 touchdowns and 236 points scored. Senior kicker Joe Martinico tied a Nassau record by kicking 56 extra points. Giving credit to the hard work by the men in the trenches was senior Dom Morales being selected as a finalist for the Martone Award, given to the top lineman in the county. Dom, Rob, and Coach Vin Mascia were all honored by Newsday as selections for their All Long Island team. The team s success brought tremendous support from the entire East Meadow community. Our students, staff, and the thousands of fans who were able to attend the contests were fabulous. Mr. Joel Levy and our band were on hand for all of our playoff games to provide additional spark. The East Meadow Fire Department and our parents gave the team a rousing send off as we traveled to Stony Brook for the Long Island championship. Coach Mascia, his staff, and players deserve all the credit for their hard work and dedication but I would like to thank all of you for being there to share in this special season. The 4 th annual Powder Puff Football game was held on November 15 th. Fifty five female football players took to the gridiron for the game and it was exciting as usual. The senior girls came back from an early deficit to win 13-12. Becky Syers returned a kickoff for a touchdown and handled the quarterback duties. Samantha Lucchi and Christina Carbone led the way defensively. The play of the day was a spectacular juggling catch by junior Emily Fitzsimmons. Although the conditions were not perfect it was a fun day for everyone involved. The ladies also donated food and raised money in support of our own the East Meadow Adopt a Family program. Special thanks to Mr. Rhodes and Ms. Gegerson for their assistance.
