Highlights of BSHS students: Bishop Shanahan senior Doug Costin has been named to several All-Star and All-Teams in recognition of his football skills and leadership. Included in the list are Ches- Mont National Division "Defensive Player of the Year" and "First Team Offense", PA "Golden Players 33", and PA Football News "1st Team - All-State" Through the generosity of students, families, clubs and teams, the Bishop Shanahan High School Community Service Corps (CSC) is providing Christmas gifts for over 60 children in the West Chester area through the St. Agnes "Christmas Child" Program. The Bishop Shanahan Girls' Basketball "Senior Night" was held prior to their game against Coatesville on January 28th. Honored for their talent and leadership were (left to right) Kelly Cox, Grace Phillips, and Ciara Forde. Fifteen members of the Bishop Shanahan High School Fine Arts Department have been selected members of the 2015-2016 Archdiocese of Philadelphia "All-Catholic Band". One hundred and two Bishop Shanahan students were scheduled to attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. on January 22nd. Due to the snow storm and for the safety of our students, the trip was cancelled. The entire Shanahan community is proud of our students for standing up for life.. Bishop Shanahan junior Grace Wible was placed "first chair" at the P.M.E.A. District 12 Orchestra Festival held January 14th - 16th. Following the festival, Grace was ranked to be "first chair" at the P.M.E.A. Region 6 Orchestra Festival to be held February 25th through the 27th. Bishop Shanahan s "Respect Life Mass" was celebrated by the faculty and students on Friday January 22. Twenty-six members of the Bishop Shanahan High School Fine Arts have been selected for membership in the 2015-2016 Archdiocesan Mixed Chorus. The All-Catholic Choral Festival will take place February 12-14, 2016 at Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast High School. Sophomores Andrew Smyth and Gwen Plevyak have been selected to represent Bishop Shanahan at the 2016 Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar (H.O.B.Y.) that will be held at Villanova University. Andrew and Gwen were chosen based on their leadership ability, communication skills, critical/creative thinking, and decision-making skills. Eleven Bishop Shanahan swimmers were honored at "Senior Day" which was celebrated at the Brandywine YMCA on February 2nd. Recognized for their leadership, talent, and dedication to the program On December 8 th the Bishop Shanahan DECA club competed in the District 9 DECA District Career Conference and Competition at the Valley Forge Convention Center. 47 students qualified to compete at the PA Career Development State Conference and Competition, which will take place the first week in March in Hershey PA. Of those 47 students 14 students placed in the top three in their events. Bishop Shanahan senior Mary Corcoran has signed a "Letter of Intent" to continue her education and play soccer at Loyola University Maryland.
Bishop Shanahan senior Sidonie Warnecker has signed a "Letter of Intent" to continue her education and play soccer at Lehigh University. The Bishop Shanahan Varsity Cheerleading squad will be traveling to Florida February 5 th to compete in the UCA National competition. The squad competed in Early December to qualify for the event and has been practicing diligently ever since for their performance in Florida. Good luck girls. The Shanahan Girls' Ice Hockey team is currently in their 6th season and it has been a great one! On the 2015-2016 roster are Juniors Lexi Gilligan (Captain) and Cassie O'Donnell (Assistant Captain), Sophomores Marielle Edgcumbe, Audrey Farrell, Sarah Fasco, Christine Lampron (Asst Captain), and Amelia Reid, and Freshman Emma Van Oostrom The female side of "Shanny Puck" is alive and well! Angel Kiiru and Bobby Seefeldt were elected Snow Queen and Snow King at the Junior Senior Winter Ball. The theme of the dance was Shanahan Hits the Slopes
The Bishop Shanahan S.T.E.M. team placed 3rd at the Chester County Regional PA Governor's JOB1st S.T.E.M. Competition on February 1, 2016. The team's project was "Code Blue: Homeless Rescue Initiative". It is a prototype that can be implemented into carts that assist authorities and social services in finding the homeless to provide shelter for them during freezing conditions while maintaining the privacy of the user. Team members are (left to right) Stephen Anderson, Matthew Horger, Angela Herb, Connor Waldt, and Andrew Johnson. We are a community of service. Bishop Shanahan CSC collected Hats and gloves for the St. Agnes Day Room.
