A Letter from our President Thank you to all of the ladies that were able to join the Founder s Day luncheon at the Norfolk Yacht & Country Club. In addition to remembering our founding members, we celebrated local Thetas Susan Butler and Margaret Fanney for their 25 years membership. We had an excellent turn out, a delicious cake from Hummingbird Bakery, a glass of wine to toast each other, and were able to reconnect with our Theta rituals. If you were unable to join us for Founder s Day, we have many fun activities planned for the spring and summer including membership meet-ups, wine tasting at the new Smithfield Winery, and interacting with the William & Mary collegiate chapter. The officers have worked hard to schedule a variety of events, so there is something CONTACT E- mail: sevathetas @gmail.com for everyone! New Member Spotlight Kelly Meehan I have been living in Norfolk for almost a year now. I moved to the area with my fiancé, who is in the Navy and stationed on an aircraft carrier. Since moving, we have purchased a house and are settling in to Norfolk. I attending the College of Charleston and got my B.S. in Middle Grades Education. I am currently teaching at Plaza Middle School in Virginia Beach. I teach 6 th grade math and I am involved in extracurricular activities as a sponsor. Two of my favorite Theta memories come from Charleston. My first favorite memory is meeting my best friend Laura during Recruitment. We were in the same Pi Chi group and immediately became best friends. When we both got Theta we knew it was a match made in Heaven. All of my favorite memories involve her and I could not be more thankful to Theta for bringing us together! My second favorite memory was getting to have a sisterhood sleepover at the Charleston Aquarium. As VP of Education, I was in charge of planning the event. When it all came together, it was a blast! I got to connect with sisters that I hardly knew and we got to sleep next to the fish. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Theta has brought me so much joy and purpose since joining my Freshman year of college. It has provided me with opportunities and experiences that I may not have had otherwise, and I am so grateful for them all. I know that Theta will be with me throughout my life and I am looking forward to attending more events and getting to know other ladies in our SEVA chapter! Full name: Kelly Meehan Theta chapter: Zeta Lambda Any positions held with that Theta chapter: VP of Education, President Job: Middle School Math Teacher Husband's name: (fiancé) Kevin Day Pet s names: Dakota (3, Jack Russel mix), Zeus (1, Rottweiler) Where you live: Norfolk, VA A fun fact (or two!) about you: I love to travel! I have been lucky enough to visit 15 countries. My favorite places have been Venice (Italy), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Quito (Ecuador), and Copenhagen (Denmark). I hope to get more opportunities to travel soon! WP MV N F 3 - J T T V F 5 T Q S J O H 3 1 2 7 - QB H F } 6

Kappa Alpha Theta s Pansy Patch Have you heard of Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation s Pansy Patch? Pansy Patch has been Theta Foundation s official Grand Convention fundraiser since 2008. For just $5, Thetas, their friends, and families can send a pansy honoring a Theta they love and care for. These gifts not only create a spectacular Pansy Patch display at Grand Convention, they are also an investment in the educational, leadership, and philanthropic programs of the Fraternity and scholastic, professional, and service pursuits that help Thetas reach their fullest potential and make a difference in the world. This year s Pansy Patch is off to its strongest start ever with more than 4,400 pansies sent and more than $23,000 raised! And this isn t even the most exciting news we have to share! We recently announced a new feature of Pansy Patch: Power Pansies. Every Power Pansy unlocked also unlocks opportunities for one-time scholarships for members of the top chapters in the Pansy Patch Chapter Standings. When you designate pansies to your chapter at checkout, you help unlock the first Power Pansy and raise your chapter s Standing position. This helps increase your chapter sisters chances of becoming eligible for a Pansy Patch Scholarship! When we reach $25,000 raised through Pansy Patch, we re unlocking our first Power Pansy and revealing the first group of one-time scholarships that will be made available for 2017. By sending pansies this week, you are not only sending pansies to your sisters, you are helping us reach a $25,000 milestone that will provide opportunities for Theta s Leading Women to pursue their educational dreams. Just by giving a $5 pansy, you ll share love, thoughtfulness, and sisterhood and make a difference for Kappa Alpha Theta. We hope you ll join us this spring by sending pansies to the sisters you love and care for. In doing so, you will help us unlock our first Power Pansy and the surprise number of scholarships to be awarded to deserving Thetas for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. We can hardly wait to share the number of scholarships hidden behind Power Pansy 1 and this is just the beginning! Visit www.pansypatch.org to send a pansy today!
