Sen ors on the Go ALVIN PARKS AND RECREATION COMMENTS FROM THE COORDINATOR - SHERRY WOLFE We are springing into not only beautiful weather but also the Alvin Senior Center s new active programs! As most of you know the twenty week Active Living Every Day class will begin on April 7th and the evidence based ACES exercise program will begin on April 6th. Those are just a few of the ways we are working to get each and every one of you to become more active this quarter. Our new Healthlete program will begin with an informational kick-off breakfast on April 1st. This is not an April Fools joke so please be sure to Ms Alvin Senior Pageant The Alvin Senior Center is hosting the 3rd Annual Ms. Alvin Senior Pageant. Cathy Hollis has done such a wonderful job representing Alvin this year! Come see who Cathy will pass the Crown to for 2009. DATE: April 25, 2009 TIME: Dinner at 6:30 pm Pageant at 7:00 pm * * Get your ticket today come enjoy a delicious breakfast and learn the perks of becoming a Healthlete. You are never to old to hunt for eggs and get you picture taken with the famous Easter Bunny! We are headed to Brazos Bend Park to the George Observatory to do a little star gazing. You never know what you might see in the beautiful night sky over Texas. ACCESS (281) 756-3729 SENIOR SWEET SPOT Weight Watchers Chocolate-Pecan Thins (In honor of National Pecan Month - a more figure friendly way to enjoy pecans) Ingredients 36 Pieces of Pecan Halves 1/2 cup sugar 2 tbsp butter 2 tbsp apple butter 1 large egg white 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa 1/3 cup all purpose flour 1/2 tsp baking powder Preheat oven to 350 F. Place pecans on a cookie sheet; bake until nuts begin to brown and are fragrant, about 5 minutes. Remove; set aside. Combine sugar and butters in a medium bowl. Beat on medium speed with an electric mixer until soft. Add egg white and vanilla; beat until combined, scraping mixture off sides of bowl as needed. In a medium bowl, whisk together cocoa, flour and baking powder. Add to butter mixture; beat to combine. Drop dough by even teaspoonfuls, about 1 inch apart, onto 3 ungreased cookie sheets. Place 1 pecan half on top of each cookie. Bake for 12 minutes; remove from oven and allow to cool on pan for 5 minutes. Remove cookies with spatula to a rack to cool completely. Yields 2 cookies per serving.
