INSTALLATION AND OPERATION MANUAL CHEMICAL BYPASS FEEDER General Instructions Regarding All Models General Cautions: 1. CAUTION: Do not open under pressure. Close isolation valves and release pressure before attempting to open unit. 2. CAUTION: Contents may be hot. 3. Consult chemical supplier for proper use of chemicals with this feeder. 4. Do not combine chemicals in this feeder without specifi c instructions from chemical supplier. 5. Read and follow label instructions for all chemical products used with this feeder. 6. Provide isolation, drain and vent valves for servicing and draining. The convenient and easy to install optional VP-75 valve package provides all the required valves. 7. Avoid high fl ow rates, they can shorten the life of the unit due to erosion. 8. Air must be purged from the unit when fi lling or returning to service. Trapped air will cause carbon steel to corrode rapidly at the air/water interface. Purging can best be accomplished by opening vent valve attached to an upper port and allowing the unit to fi ll slowly. 9. Open valves slowly when fi lling with water, purging air and returning to service. Flow Rate: All Griswold Water Systems chemical bypass feeders are designed for small bypass fl ows only. Recommended fl ow rate range 3-10 gpm Maximum fl ow rate 15 gpm Creating Flow: Flow is created by having inlet pressure higher than outlet pressure. Attaching feeder inlet to the high pressure side of the circulation pump and outlet to the suction side of the pump is the most effective way of assuring. The use of a preset fl ow regulating valve is recommended. For more specifi c operating instructions refer to the applicable IOM for FB-SB, DB-SB or DB-GE bypass feeders.

INSTALLATION (No Strainer Basket, Filter Bag or Cartridge Filter Assembly): Feeder inlet line may be at an upper or lower port depending on installation preference. INSTALLATION (With Strainer Basket and Filter Bag): Feeder inlet line must an upper port. A strainer basket may be used with or without a fi lter bag. A fi lter bag requires a strainer basket for support. At initial installation, push the fi lter bag into the strainer basket by hand to assure proper fi t. Place bag and basket assembly into the top of the feeder. SAFETY BAR CLOSURE INSTALLATION (CFA Cartridge Filter Assembly): Feeder inlet line must at a lower port to allow debris to be trapped on the outer layer of fi lter. Cartridge fi lter elements are available with 100 F, 170 F and 250 F operating limits. Specify the desired temperature limit when ordering replacements. Close isolation valves (inlet and outlet valves). Slowly open drain valve at the lower connection line to release all pressure. Open Safety-Bar closure and remove lid. Allow water to completely drain from feeder. Close drain valve. Add chemicals, install lid and tighten closure. Open vent valve on upper port. Slowly open lower isolation valve to refi ll & purge air from system. When purging is complete, close vent valve. Open top isolation valve to return feeder to operation. Close isolation valves (inlet and outlet valves). Keep body and face away from funnel opening. Slowly open drain valve at the lower connection line to release all pressure. Open funnel valve. Allow water to completely drain from feeder. Close drain valve. Add chemicals, close funnel valve. Open vent valve on upper port. Slowly open lower isolation valve to refi ll & purge air from system. When purging is complete, close vent valve. Open top isolation valve to return feeder to operation. CARTRIDGE FILTER ASSEMBLY GWS-1013-Rev D

Cartridge Filter Assembly (CFA) A Cartridge Filler Assembly (CFA) can be used with all bypass feeders that include the Safety Bar Closure. INSTALLATION: Feeder inlet line must at the bottom to allow debris to be trapped on the outer layer of fi lter. Cartridge fi lter elements are available with 100 F, 170 F and 250 F operating limits. Specify the desired temperature limit when ordering replacements. OPERATION: Operation is as described in the IOM regarding the actual feeder purchased and depending on whether a funnel package is present. If solid chemicals are to be added, it is recommended the CFA be removed after draining the feeder and prior to the addition of chemicals. The CFA can be removed through the Safety Bar Closure using its handle. Add the solid chemicals, replace the CFA and proceed with standard closing and fi lling instructions. CARTRIDGE FILTER REPLACEMENT: After draining feeder, remove the CFA from the feeder using its handle. Unscrew the bottom retaining disc from the CFA. Remove old cartridge and replace with a new one rated for the correct temperature. A large fl at rubber gasket seals the CFA against a seat inside the feeder opening. Replace gasket if it is hard or damaged. EXPLODED VIEW CARTRIDGE FILTER ELEMENT REMOVAL
