Around the Traps President s Pep Club Captains Captain s Report Report we re having a technical glitch this month obtaining the captn s report, but apparently: Congratulations to all who won at the Presentation dinner. The number of members that attended were down this year, next year we will have to pick a time that doesn t clash with the Tri Nations, the Gympie Muster and members going away on fishing trips. All in all we had a good night and a good feed. I'm glad we were inside, because it poured down with rain the whole time we were there. We are going to have to start putting our capture sheets in to give Ross a bit of competition. Many thanks to Wayne and Barb who helped out with the vouchers for the winners. Cheers Vince the comp this weekend is cancelled and put back to next weekend. *************** Club advertisement FOR SALE at the General Meeting 8 th September The remainder of Fishing & Boating gear (at a reduced rate) from the Estate of our Life Member the late Ray Gibbings. Wayne s Fishing Report from FISHING REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER, 2011. ESTUARY: Silver bream moving in over the Maroochy Bar on the bigger tides next week with the banks around Goat Island returning quality fish. Chopper tailor in the deeper water from Chambers Island to the Cod Hole using frogmouth pillies. A few sharks have been sighted working bait at Twin Waters. SURF: Tailor at Pincushion using small pillies with quality improving just after dark. Whiting and dart taking pippies along Maroochy Beach. Jew chasing butter bream along Marcoola Beach. OFFSHORE: Most close in reefs firing for squire, sweetlip, undersize pearl perch and red emperor. Squid and mullet fillet best baits. Southern end of the Barwon Banks for snapper and pearlies. Spanner crabs east of Murphy s Reef. DON T FORGET THE NEW SNAPPER RULES APPLY FROM 1 st SEPTEMBER. GAMEFISHING: Find the bait and the billfish aren t far away. Cobia and mahi-mahi working with the bait along the fifty meter line. Keep an eye out for bait from where the Blinker used to be. Mac tuna chopping just of Alexandra Headland. FRESHWATER: Local impoundments seemed to have slowed down, but trips down to Somerset Dam, up to Borumba or west to Boondooma will return bass and the three species of perch on a mixture of live shrimps, earthworms and deep diving lures. Don t forget your permit to fish impoundments. Permits available at Maroochy Fishing World. Red claw numbers have decreased, but a good feed is still available in the usual spots. WAYNE NILSSON. Here's a few photos from our recent 1770 trip from which we got home Monday. Managed to get out on the reef for 2 days out of 10 days that we were there. In other words the weather was really poor with both rain and wind. We managed to snare a few fish though when we did go out. On my boat between two of us we got about 4 really good fish then - 2 red emperor and 2 coral trout. The rest of the catch was made up of about half a dozen red throat emperor, tusk fish, and a heap of hussars. I managed to snare the best red at 12kg. Our crew was made up of 2 boats with a total of 4 crew - Big Ray, Anthony Lovett, Chris Powter and myself. We stayed out on Fitzroy Reef the one night. Rented a house in Agnes Waters for the rest of the time. We fished the inshore areas within about 12 miles of Round Hill one day but caught nothing except lots of little stuff. We also did some trolling along Bustard Beach right up to Bustard Head but on one touch on the lures. 5

Jenny Beinke Most improved Sunshine Coast SportFishing Club Inc ********************************** Best wishes for a happy 70 th Joe. (Joe with a 6kg cobia on 6kg line last month). The fish made it to 100, Joe plans to do better! 6
