ROJECT OVERVIEW Auburn Station Access Improvements roject Average daily ridership on the south Sounder line has been growing rapidly over the past few years and is expected to increase approximately 70 percent by 05. Voters approved improvements to the Auburn Sounder Station in 008 as part of the ballot measure to expand mass transit throughout the region. The Sound Transit Board restored funding for the Auburn Station Access Improvements roject in 06; funding had been suspended in 00 as a result of the economic recession. otential station access improvements include a second parking garage and pedestrian, transit and bicycle improvements. After working with the community to identify a list of potential parking garage sites and other access improvements in early 07, staff from Sound Transit and the City of Auburn have worked together to refine and evaluate them based on project goals and objectives. Auburn City Council will make a recommendation to the Sound Transit Board regarding a site for the parking garage and funding for non-motorized improvements. In November, the Sound Transit Board is scheduled to identify a preferred alternative to move forward into design and environmental review.

ROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES ACCESS Improve access to transit at the station ENVIRONMENT Advance environmental/ sustainability goals of Sound Transit and the community OBJECTIVES rovide multiple reliable access options to serve commute periods and throughout the day Increase transit ridership OBJECTIVES romote a healthy and sustainable environment Encourage access to Sounder via all modes of travel Maximize comfort and convenience for riders IMLEMENTATION CONSISTENCY & COMATIBILITY Improvements can be implemented in a timely Support regional and manner community goals OBJECTIVES arking improvements are constructible within project schedule Non-garage improvements can be implemented within a shorter timeframe Is cost-effective and financially sustainable OBJECTIVES Support goals, policies, and plans of transit agencies and local governments Support urban design principles and further economic development / support and attract businesses and residents Benefit the local community Minimize community impacts during construction

WHAT WE HEARD In addition to working closely with the City of Auburn, elected officials and regional partners, we collected feedback from the Auburn Transportation Advisory Board and the community about potential parking garage locations and ways to improve pedestrian, bicycle and transit access to Auburn Station. Here are some key themes we heard during outreach last winter. arking garage Desire to maximize new parking spaces added Interest in garage site that is close to the station and balances traffic on both sides of the tracks Request for weather protection or shuttle between garage and station Non-motorized and transit access Request for improved pick-up/drop-off location near the station Request for improved bicycle and pedestrian connections into downtown Concern about safety and security of bike lockers Request for improved access and amenities for bus routes connecting to the station

Auburn Way S RIORITY NON-MOTORIZED AND TRANSIT ACCESS IMROVEMENTS Below are representative pedestrian, bicycle and transit access projects prioritized by the City of Auburn and Sound Transit as the most effective at improving non-motorized access to the station, regardless of which garage site is selected. These access projects were identified from existing Sound Transit and City studies, suggestions from the Transit Advisory Board and community input gathered during outreach for this project. These non-motorized improvements are estimated to cost $900,000, though the projects themselves may change during design and environmental review. orized rojects H ST NW H St NW W Main St Transit shelters and sidewalks at bus stops on connecting transit routes to the Sounder station G StSW G ST SW G ST NW G St NW rd St SW W MAIN ST F St SW F ST SW RD ST SW F ST NW F St NW 00 Feet ST ST SW E ST SW E Street SW West Auburn High School D ST SW Legend Site Chosen For Further Analysis Site Not Chosen For Further Analysis D ST NW nd St NW ND ST NW D St NW West Auburn High School D Street NW D St SW D Street SW ST ST SW 5 C Street NW C Street SW 6 Auburn Station Intersections Analyzed C ST SW C STNW C St NW C St SW Clearly marked pedestrian zone Bike lockers and ADA-accessible parking C ST SW B Street B St NW B Street SW 7 Existing Garage 4 9 0 A Street NW A Street St SW SW A ST SW A Street SW Street NW st NW City Hall N Division Street S Division Street Street SW Street SW nd St SW S Division Street st Street NE E Main Street st Street SE nd Street SE Auburn Medical Center Street SE A St SE rd Street SW rd Street SW 4 rd Street SE 5 RD ST SW RD ST NW B ST NW B ST SW C ST SW rd St NW TRANSIT RD SW A St NW ND ST NW A ST NW ST ST NW ND ST SW 8 ST ST SW RD ST SW DRAFT for Discussion urposes Only A ST SW A ST NW nd St NW 4TH ST SW N DIVISION ST rd St SW 4th St SW S Division St S DIVISION ST ST ST SE A Street SE Auburn Ave AUBURN AVE NE E Main Street B ST SE nd Street SE ST ST NE otential Garage Sites Considered - Auburn RD ST SE A St NE A ST NE ST ST NE A ST SE A ST NE Auburn Medical Center E Main St A L SE B ST NE 5rd St NE Auburn Ave B St NE RD ST NE B ST SE B ST NE Kent and Auburn Station Access Improvements April 7, 07 CROSS ST SE Auburn Way N AUBURN WAY N ND ST NE RD ST NE ND ST SE E MAIN ST D STSE D ST NE ST ST NE EST NE Bus Access Improvements Road and intersection improvements for more 4 nd St NE st St NE E Main St nd St SE E St SE E ST SE Shared use path and shared lane markings 4TH ST NE efficient transit access 4TH ST SE F St SE F ST SE G St SE G ST SE H ST NE H St SE H ST SE 8 Mile tation NI 5TH ST SW C ST SW C St SW A St SE 6TH ST SE AUBURN WAY S D ST SE 5th St SE 5TH ST SE 6th St SE 6TH ST SE 7TH ST SE 7th St SE
