PETERS MO 63376-1528 Secretary-Cindy Ahrens Editor Bob Layton 636-397-4487 e-mail mickie6t6@centurytel.net Publisher-Mark Lazzareschi www.fordsunlimited.com W e are proud to announce that we now have a new website. Although still under construction, we have went live with the site and will be improving as we go. Club member, Scott Lewis who owns Winning Technologies along with the help from Keirsten McDaniel, have our site up and running. We have decided that on our members rides section, we would only run hood down photos. We started with what photos that we had and will add more during the car show season. If you have a photo of your car that you like, please send it to mickie6t6@netzero.com. Our web address remains www.fordsunlimited.com S pecial thanks go out to Dale Wojtkowski for his work for our club. Dale was our original webmaster who took on a job that no one else wanted to do. Dale spent many hours setting up our original site and was special help to our newsletter editor. Dale helped with by supplying upgraded software and by helping to improve our newsletter with his computer skills. Dale is one of our members who does one of the many jobs that help make our club a success. Thanks Dale!!! O ur first car event of the year will be held at the Museum of Transport in St. Louis County on April 3rd. The show is presented by the Model A Restorers Club, Model T Club & Early Ford V8 Club. This event displays the evolution of the Ford Motor Company and their vehicles. One of the highlights of the show will be the opportunity to watch a team assemble a Ford Model T from crates of parts in just minutes and drive away! The show in more of a display as there is no entry fee or trophies. The event is also open to later model Ford cars and trucks. Fords Unlimited members can travel to the show as a group if desired. We will be meeting at Sugar Creek Park located at Dougherty Ferry Road and Des Peres Road. Exit Highway 270, west to the intersection at the traffic light. We will meet at 9 am and be leaving at 9:15 sharp!! The show itself only runs from 11 am to 2 pm. This a club event for points.

O ur club closed out the winter season on a cold and rainy Saturday night with a trip to the Adrenaline Zone in St. Charles for a couple of hours of Demo Ball topped off with some pizza and salad. This March 19th event went off very well with no unexpected trips to the emergency room although we re sure there were some sore muscles the next morning. This was our third trip to the Adrenaline Zone although it had been a couple of years since had the pleasure of beating each others brains out. We thank Syl Biermann for setting up the event and to all who were able to participate.

A lthough this is not club history, a friend loaned me four old Magazines from 1955-58 that included Rod & Custom, Car Craft and Custom Cars. These were the little books from the era. A couple of interesting notes included a feature on Dean Moon s 34 coupe. Some remember moon tanks and moon eyes which became his claim to fame. He was also well known as a drag racer, writer and photographer. Later in the article, he pulled the flathead and installed a Studebaker V8. Wow! Another item featured was a story on bumper cars. Later into the 60 s, R&C traditionally covered Go-Karts and model cars. Also, no early magazine would be complete without a JC Whitney ad.

A new event for our club this year will be a trip to Hermann Missouri for the 5th annual Shelbyfest. The Shelbyfest is a three day event but our club will only be going to the car show held on Saturday, April 30th. The event is for Shelby s and Mustangs only but any member who attends will get full points. The car show will be held from 9 am until 3:30 pm. Nothing competitive here, just drive in, get out, hang out, and enjoy. Cars will enter from 4th street off of Market St (Hwy 19). The entry fee is $25 and goes to charity. We will need to travel and enter together or else we will not be able to park together. We will meet at the Phillips 66 gas station at Highway 70 & Highway Z (Hwy Z is the exit right after 61 & right before main Wentzville exits). We will gather at 7:45 am and will be leaving at 8 am. We will be traveling with members of the Show-Me Mustang Club. Please note, this location and time is a change from what was announced earlier. You can sign up at club meetings or you can call any board member to sign up. Show info available @ www.shelbyfest.net I n February, we were asking members how long they have had their current ride. I received this reply from Bruce Paschall. I bought my Mach 1 in spring of '69. It was either built on 4/28/69 or I picked it up on that date. Kind of a coincidence since it's a 69 428 Super CJ Mach 1. I wanted a GT 500 Shelby, ($5200), but I couldn't afford it so I went to Costello-Kunze and ordered my Mach 1 with all the options the Shelby had except A/C.I wasn't old enough to sign for it, so I had to order it with an automatic because my mom wouldn't sign for a 4 speed. (worked out pretty well though, no one has ever out shifted it). It cost $3688 and is 200lbs lighter than a Shelby. When I first got it, I put 1000 miles a week on it, and burnt the first set of tires off of it in the first 2 weeks. Bruce Is anybody else out there a long time owner? If so, let us know. (Editors note. I was 20 years old when I purchased my new 1965 Mustang GT. A 4-barrel carb was a mandatory option with the GT package. I too needed my parent to sign for the loan. My dad would not allow me to have a 4-speed or 4-barrel, as that was for drag racing and surely his number 2 son wouldn't do those kind of things. The salesman at Valley Ford suggested that we could do a little horse trading. I ended up having my dad sign for a 2-barrel GT and went back to the dealer the next day with a check for $54 for the 4-barrel. My dad never knew the difference. I did have to live with the 3-speed, he would have Our 50-50 winner at our March meeting was John Hartmann. John took home an additional $33. Congratulations!

Edited from Automobile Info provided by Bill Bufka R eplica cars are nothing new. Hot-rodders have been relying on new 32 Ford body shells for years. The Bronco is the latest model from Dynacorn in this build it from scratch frenzy. Like other previous bodies, the new parts rarely come from original tooling, which automakers typically destroy after ten years. That gives today s engineers the opportunity to start over and fix issues that automakers either didn t know about or didn t care about at the time, such as structural rigidity and corrosion resistance. Like other Dynacorn bodies, these will cost around 15 grand. O n March 23rd, a car show meeting was held. Although many months off, there is always so much to do. At this point, the most important issue is the selling of all of the classes. As of presstime, we are woefully short on sponsors. Since we list our sponsors on our car show flyer, we are on hold until we finalize the class sponsors. Since the car show season starts earlier each year, we will print some miniflyers to get through the early car shows and cruises. If you have sold classes in the past, please approach those sponsors to get them back into the fold. If you think that a new sponsor could be found, please explore that route. If you need a sponsor form and a class list, please contact our show chairman, Jim Biermann at 314-608-3103. O ur Blue Cruise will be held again this year at Pur Performance in St. Charles on July 9th. We are in the process of setting up a meeting with members of the Show-Me Mustang Club to work out many of the details. The Show-Me folks have shown interest in being more of a part in the planning this year and we are looking for more ways to cut our costs without diminishing the quality of this charity cruise. Last year s cruise was an outstanding success and we hope for even more success this year. We hope to have flyers available soon.

T his month we welcome another new member. Jim McCaughan. Jim lives in Florissant and owns a 1970 F-250. His sponsor was Danny Bullion. Welcome! C oming on May 21st is our cruise to Crane s Country Store near Williamsburg Missouri. We will be guests of the Show- Me Mustang Club. The trip will run an hours drive westbound on Highway 70. We will post our meeting place and time in next months newsletter. This will be a points event. For info on Crane s, check out cranescountrystore.com W e are looking for members who would like to have their car or truck featured in our newsletter and posted on our website. Just send 3 or 4 photo s of your vehicle including an engine shot and interior shot. We also need some history or specs on your ride We can return your photo s.
