T H O R O U G H B R E D R A C I N G STEWARDS REPORT MEETING HELD AT ASCOT ON SATURDAY 19 NOVEMBER 2016 Meeting No: 86 Weather: Fine Track: Good (4) Penetrometer: 6.6 Rail: Out 3 Metres Stewards: BW Lewis, CD Brown, DA Hensler (Chief Steward NT) (400), H Taylor (SR), DN Borovica (HO), ML Vickers (FL), DJ Mead (600), Cadet G Lawrence (Gear/FL), Cadet R Butler (CAT), T Rendell (FA/BA), T Styles (B/S), G Johnston (RWWA Investigator), P Criddle (RWWA Investigator) Veterinary Surgeons: Drs J Medd, E Vidler, P Symons Medical Officer: Dr Majid All runners in the James Boag s Premium- Railway Stakes have been subjected to Out of Competition testing in the preceding days and were placed under guard from 5am today until arriving on course. Further, a number of runners engaged in the WA Guineas have been subjected to Out of Competition testing in the lead up to the race. Additionally a number of other stables were also visited by Stewards as part of the Compliance Assurance Activities. RACE 1: TABTOUCH ON FACEBOOK HANDICAP - 2200M ALREADY FAMOUS Rider reported that he decided not to lead the event today as in his opinion this is not its preferred style of racing. FLYING FORCE Rider reported that he did not anticipate leading the event, however the gelding had commenced better than expected and he was able to work forward and easily cross runners to his inside. PROXY Raced keenly through the middle stages. Impeded and taken outwards for a clear run approaching the 200m and thereafter lay inwards. WHO'S TO BLAME Trainer Mr V Sigley advised he would instruct for the mare to be ridden in a mid-field to rearward position and this information was disseminated. Raced wide from the 600m. RACE 2: AMELIA PARK HANDICAP - 1100M CRANKY DANCER Raced wide with cover. ROGER THE ROMAN Impeded for clear running from on straightening and when attempting a marginal run approaching the 200m was disappointed before eventually getting clear approaching the 100m. RUBY CAN RUN Raced wide from the 700m. SOVEREIGN HALL Commenced awkwardly and lost one length. Rider reported that the gelding raced in a flat manner and consequently failed to make ground when hard ridden in the straight. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr T Martinovich will be contacted by the Stewards in the ensuing days to discuss its recovery. TOMMY WHO Raced wide throughout.
ASCOT : 19.11.16 86/2 Race 2 cont. WICKED HUNTER Impeded for a clear run from on straightening until taken outwards at the 100m. PRIME WITNESS Steadied when being crossed by another runner approaching the 800m. RECHARGER A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have returned with cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr C Green was advised that the gelding will required and ECG clearance and must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. THREESUN Steadied when racing tightly between runners approaching the 850m. Angled outwards for a run at the 250m. Baulked at the crossing at the 1800m following the race dislodging its rider who was examined by the Club s Medical Officer and was observed to be suffering from arm and facial abrasions. YOU WATCHING ME Commenced awkwardly and lost one length. Unable to secure clear running for the entire straight and was steadied when improving on heels at the 200m. General: On inquiry it was established that near the 850m PRIME WITNESS (J Brown) shifted inwards crowding YOU WATCHING ME (D Whyte) with THREESUN (R Tan) being steadied in consequence and shortly after this, PIRATE S FORTUNE (P Hall) shifted inwards causing PRIME WITNESS to be steadied. Jockeys J Brown and P Hall were both cautioned for shifting inwards in the early stages when not fully clear and were reminded of their obligations in this regard. RACE 3: PRESETS PERFORMING PERTH CUP - DEC 31 HANDICAP - 1000M TRAVINATOR Withdrawn by Stewards at 1.43pm acting on Veterinary advice after sustaining a laceration to the off hind frog. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on TRAVINATOR ($8) be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 1.43pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st ) CHINETTI less 10c win and 12c place 2 nd ) FURIOUS DAME less 8c place 3 rd ) VIKING FORREST less 11c place STRATUMSPHERE Lay outwards approaching the 500m and steadied when improving onto the heels of another runner. Due to the gelding s racing manner Trainer Mr J Warwick was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Trainer further advised that the gelding will now be leaving his stables. FLYTEGO Raced tightly between runners between the 250m and the 150m. CALABRIA JOE Raced wide for the majority of the event. EXPRESS DANCER Raced wide throughout. THE RIVER Rider reported the gelding lay outwards from the 800m. UNIVERSAL MOON Raced keenly through the early stages and middle stages. Held up on straightening until angled outwards at the 100m. VIKING FORREST Commenced awkwardly. Impeded and steadied at the 200m and then taken outwards. WOBBEGONG Crowded and steadied near the 200m. Shoeing Change: INCOHERENT Pads off Near Fore. General: Jockey S O Donnell (VIKING FORREST) was reprimanded for careless riding under AR137(a) for allowing his mount to shift outwards when insufficiently clear of WOBBEGONG (P Knuckey) causing that gelding to be crowded for room and steadied near the 200m.
ASCOT : 19.11.16 86/3 RACE 4: MUMM CHAMPAGNE HANDICAP 1500M CHASING CHAOS Momentarily crowded when racing tightly between runners near the 200m. FATHOMS OF GOLD Raced in restricted room and steadied at the 150m when yielding ground. CARALABEK Slow into stride losing one length. Held up for clear running on straightening. SASSO S CIRCUS Raced wide from the 500m. MOSSERATTI Raced wide from the 400m. BOOM BOOM BANG Raced wide with cover. Angled outwards when being crossed by another runner approaching the 150m. THE BLUE NIPPER Raced wide throughout. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have returned with an elevated heart rate and slow to recover. Trainer Mr N Parnham will be contacted by the Stewards in the ensuing days to discuss its recovery. HEAVY SET Improved onto heels of a tiring runner near the 400m and was steadied. Held up from on straightening until leaving the 200m. RACE 5: TABTOUCH-PLACID ARK STAKES 1200M WHERE S WALLY Lay inwards in the straight. Rider reported that the gelding failed to stride out freely when ridden along in the straight. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed it to be lame in the near fore. Trainer Mr T Martinovich was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness will be required prior to the gelding trialling or racing again. PRECIOUS MEMORIES Raced wide throughout. PARIS TEXAS Raced in restricted room and lay outwards and steadied approaching the 400m. RACE 6: CARBINE CLUB OF W.A. STAKES 1400M BASS STRAIT Angled inwards for a clear run at the 250m. CHOCOLATE HOLIC Impeded from on straightening until taken outwards at the 200m for a clear run. STOCKS Raced wide for the majority of the event. Dictated outwards by another runner leaving the 200m and bumped at the 150m. GREAT SHOT Lay out in the straight. SHOWY CHLOE Rider reported that the mare enjoyed a favourable run through the early and middle stages, however was disappointing in the way it finished off the race as it did not run on as anticipated. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed it to return with an elevated heart rate and slow to recover. Trainer Mr J Pateman expressed disappointment in the performance and will be contacted by the Stewards in the ensuing days to discuss its recovery. TESTAMEZZO Slow into stride. Dictated outwards for a short distance leaving the 200m. COMING BACK Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Lay inwards in the straight and bumped outwards at the 150m by another runner. UNIVERSAL LAW Raced wide throughout. KENSINGTON ABBEY Raced wide for the majority of the event and had a tendency to lay outwards from the 500m. General: Jockey D Oliver (CHOCOLATE HOLIC) was reminded of his obligations to be fully clear when shifting outwards in the straight as his movement carried TESSTAMEZZO (H Bowman) outwards onto STOCKS (J Casey)which bumped with COMING BACK (G Smith) at the 150m.. Jockey P Knuckey (VENGABUS) appeared before Stewards and was shown vision of a section of the event approaching the 150m where his left arm became extended outwards towards another rider and was strongly advised to ensure that he modifies his action to prevent a reoccurrence.
ASCOT : 19.11.16 86/4 RACE 7: SKY RACING-W.A. GUINEAS 1600M All runners engaged in this race were required to be on course 2 hours prior to the advertised starting time. SAUL S SPECIAL Shifted inwards at the 1400m and bumped with another runner. Rider reported the colt was obliged to work hard through the early stages to cross and obtain a position outside the leader which told on the colt finishing the race off strongly as anticipated and that it mis-strode near the 200m. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed it to have returned with a mildly elevated heart rate and an abrasion to the near fore cannon. Trainer Mr D Morton will be contacted by Stewards in ensuing days to discuss it recovery. THE CELT Trainer Mr V Sigley advised that he would instruct for the gelding to be ridden on pace if possible and this information was disseminated. Raced wide in the early stages until crossing to lead near the 1000m. LUSAHA Crowded and bumped near the 1400m. JAZARI Steadied inwards to avoid the heels of another runner approaching the 200m. ONE SHORT Raced wide with cover. Rider reported the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action in the straight. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr S Wolfe advised that the gelding will now be sent for a spell. VARIATION Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Held up from on straightening and then angled inwards leaving the 200m. GEIGER GEM Raced wide throughout. FINAL SALUTE Commenced awkwardly and lost one length. Raced wide with cover. Taken outwards on straightening to obtain a clear run. RAGAZZO D ORO Slow into stride losing one length. Raced wide throughout. WHISPERING BROOK Bumped and raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1400m. General: Jockey B Parnham (SAUL S SPECIAL) was shown an incident at the 1400m where his mount shifted inwards causing crowding to WHISPERING BROOK (P Knuckey) which then made contact with LUSAHA (C Williams) and he was cautioned and told to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. RACE 8: JAMES BOAG S PREMIUM-RAILWAY STAKES 1600M All runners engaged in this race were required to be on course 2 hours prior to the advertised starting time. KAWI Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Impeded for a short distance at the 200m and again over the final 50m. HE OR SHE Raced wide with cover. Returned having cast its off hind plate. Rider advised that the gelding raced in a flat manner and failed to finish the race off. MACKINTOSH Returned having lost its off fore plate. LITE N IN MY VEINS Raced wide with cover. BALMONT GIRL Raced wide with cover. A post-race Veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to have returned with a laceration to its off hind cannon. HEART STARTER Impeded for a short distance on straightening. IDEAL IMAGE Raced wide throughout. TICK TICK BLOOM Returned with a laceration to its off hind fetlock. TRADESMAN Impeded behind the heels of another runner on straightening and raced in restricted room for a short distance at the 250m. Angled outwards for a clear run at the 50m.

SECRET NOVA Reared on jumping losing two lengths. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Returned having lost its off fore plate. SILVERSTREAM Raced keenly through the early and middle stages and wide throughout. UPTOWN FUNK Impeded for a clear run from on straightening until the 150m. DISTANT MEMORY Rider dropped his whip approaching the 200m. METEOROID Raced keenly through the early and middle stages and got its head in the air when improving near heels of another runner at the 800m and shifted outwards and bumped. KRAKKA VISION Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Lay inwards in the straight. ROTANA BEACH Angled outwards for a clear run at the 50m. JESTAJINGLE Raced wide throughout. Bumped outwards approaching the 800m. VENUS EBONY Lay inwards in the straight. GENERAL Routine specimens were taken from all winners and Race 7. ELLICAZOOM (2 nd Place) Race 8. Late Reports: MOUNT BARKER TURF CLUB, SUNDAY 30 OCTOBER 2016 RACE 4: NARRIKUP MAIDEN (1200m) YOU DON T SAY Trainer Ms F Gerrard advised that the mare got its tongue back during running and had an allergic reaction causing respiratory noises and that it also returned with a laceration to the off hind which has since received treatment and all of these factors had adversely affected its performance. She added that subsequent Veterinary tests revealed no abnormalities and she will effect a bit change and will now continue with its current preparation rather than send it for a spell as previously advised.
