Our club has been supporting CHALLENGE for many years and it is a way for our club to give something back to the community. CHALLENGE organises several families to spend the day with us on the Barwon. The club provides boats and ski gear. Many people have assisted us over the years and have found the day to be very enjoyable and extremely rewarding. To make this day a success we need your help. Are you able to offer your boat and / or time? Fuel will be subsidised. We also need: Wetsuits and Buoyancy Vests, Kneeboards and Water Skis - Doubles and Junior Doubles BOATS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED We also need a volunteer Santa Please contact Karen Ward on 5281 5336 or 0408 590 213 after 6pm or logon to the website on www.bvwsc.com and email a committee member to inform them of your availability and what you can provide. The Mile has been booked for this event. Normal skiing available from the ramp to the breakwater. CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY Saturday 6 December 2008 on the mile from 12 noon Come along and meet members. November 2008 Ski Talk Page 2 FROM THE PRESIDENT S BOAT Salutations all members; the weather is fining up and it is great to see familiar faces and now good friends enjoying our sport on the river. Something about water skiing, wake boarding or just blowing the cobwebs out of the engine on our boats, what a feeling!!! I again must commend the selfless time and effort put in by our club committee members doing the work in the background to keep the club viable and our use of the river as licensed by CCMA valid. Special thanks to Linton MARCHANT our Chief River Officer for his continued efforts meeting with CCMA and other Govt. authorities regarding the proposed changes to our access road to the ramp. It s been under a cloud recently and some persistent attendance, research for meetings etc.. has resulted in a significant win for our members regarding our continued existing access to the ramp with a "Deed of Understanding" to be signed by authorities and club representatives. The club Christmas BBQ is lined up for early December; bring your family, bring the boat, meet up with like minded club members and have a great day. Introduce yourself around, make new friends. We are a club just like many others; the members make it what it is Len van ANDEL President. BVWSC Safe skiing, boarding everyone!!! RICHARD CONNOLEY THANK YOU Richie joined our club in 2007 and was elected onto the committee this season. He is a keen wakeboarder and is a frequent river user, skiing throughout the past winter. Richie recently competed at Carrum in the Novice Division and came 2 nd with 71.1 points. A fantastic effort from someone who has only been wakeboarding 18 months! CONGRATULATIONS!! Look out for Richie next time you are down the river, he s bound to be there getting in some more practice! Richie boards with friends Sean and Darcy behind an Air Nautique boat. He has also become a River Officer this year. It s great to see some new, young members getting involved and supporting our club. Thank-you to Chris Glance for repairing the synthetic lawn under the rotundas for us after someone decided they would like to souvenir a piece. If you are thinking of replacing your dried up lawn with something greener, you may like to give Chris a call. Ph: 0425 811765 ask@syntheticlawnnow.com.au www.syntheticlawnnow.com.au

November 2008 Ski Talk Page 4 SCRUTINEER DAY CONGRATULATIONS We had a good turn out for Scrutineer Day with 48 permits being issued on the day. Thanks to members who took up the opportunity to get their permit early in the season, it helps take some of the pressure off our River Officers on weekends. A reminder that if you turn up on a weekend to get your permit, you are not in the queue until your permit has been finalised. If someone turns up after you, but already has their permit, they are entitled to launch if there is room on the river. Please note ALL permits expire SEP 30, 2009. There was a mistake with the date recorded on some permits. Congratulations to Lachlan Marchant who recently took out 2 nd Place in the 2 nd round wakeboarding competition at Carrum. Lachlan competed in the 10-14 year old boys and received 65.57 points. Lachlan is 12 years old and has been wakeboarding for four years. If you have any news you would like celebrated in our newsletter, please email Karen from our website: www.bvwsc.com CLUB MOBILE: 0403 141692 If you wish to contact the River Officer of the day, you may ring the number above. You may NOT reserve a spot but you can find out how busy the river is. This phone is not answered during the week or on days when the river is closed. Early Birds please note: If the river is full prior to the River Officer arriving (9:00am), the River Officer has priority to launch and you may be asked to stay docked at some stage. This is to ensure safety and fairness to all concerned. Please adhere to any requests from our River Officers. Thank-you.
