Australia 2308 The Frank Ehling 1/2A Postal Texaco Challenge 2010 CD s Report I really look forward to participating in this contest each year, it reinvigorates my desire to continuing aero modelling particularly in the SAM movement. There has been a great response to this year s contest with some new SAM Chapters entering for the first time, fresh models built, engine reliability cursed and thermals sort by combined teams and timers alike. There were the usual high scoring teams and some keen new squadrons being formed promising to increase the flight times for the prestige of holding this fine SAM team trophy in the future. Wow 1/2A! It has shown again that there is no single design or model that dominates this class, we had twenty-two different models designs enter this year s contest, some new, some well oiled. An example of this is from the Vintagents team, Brad Turner s brand new Bomber, he had one test flight then two more flights, both maxes! These small models are just good fun, have a look at the photo of the beautiful models SAM 114 produced for this year s contest. Well done everyone, the results sometimes don t reflect the time, skill and effort that go into building and flying a 1/2A model. The luck of finding that elusive thermal to tackle the fifteen minute max is a real challenge. The weather is always variable around the world within the one month long contest period and we have had friends from Italy, USA and Australia competing again this year. The emails have been both appreciated and wonderful to receive from all the SAM Chapters. I hope you will continue to enjoy flying while we wait to fly our best two of three flights in the Frank Ehling 1/2A Postal Texaco Challenge in 2011. Good luck everyone. Kind regards, Greg Martin SAM 84 Vintagents
