The Mermaid Beach Bowls Club, which officially opened in 1963, is the beneficiary of a $16,500 sponsorship deal from the Mermaid Beach based Henderson family. The family behind John Henderson Professionals Mermaid Beach has committed to supporting the club financially for the next three years. John Henderson Professionals Mermaid Beach principal Andrew Henderson said the deal was sealed after the real estate agency hosted its annual Hot Summer Auction at the bowls club, attracting more than 200 people. Mr Henderson said the club helped to create and enhance the sense of community that Mermaid Beach enjoys and he is proud the family can support the club.

MEN S PRESIDENTS REPORT What a great month for our bowls club. Played over two finals weekends the club showed that we can organize and run any big time tournament with the best bigger clubs. Having great support from so many club members made the running of the tournament so much easier for the committee. I am just so proud to have been part of it and to all our members who gave their time and effort you are just brilliant. Some of the comments received as feedback was the best one yet, great greens the best around the coast. Another from a very excited new member was, this is what it`s all about. Well all I can say to you all is Thank you, thank you, thank you to all members, greens keepers and club management. Team work is what it is all about. Our 4 th division team managed to bring home the bacon in the premier Sevens. We managed to hang in there and play not only as a team but for each other. A very good effort as we needed to beat teams that finished higher up in qualifying rounds than us. The only down side was the local parking ticket attendant. We have tried to assist those who got tickets. Let`s see what the council does about this one. Pennants is upon us. We have entered two teams in the men`s section. Only time will tell if we the selectors have done the right thing. I cannot believe we have struggled to get more names after the success the club has had. Good to see some of the new members wanting to have a go. Well done. The midyear meeting is coming up. I encourage you all to attend this as there is very important motions being tabled. If you don t attend then don t complain later after the event. You all heard promises a few weeks ago about communication of club business. Now is your chance to ask again. This is your club, you have the right to know what`s going on. The inside of the club house has had a much needed overhaul. Great work by all involved, what a difference. It s a bit sad Neptune (30 odd years) has gone as has some of the older members photos and the Big Mermaid. To me this was part of the history of the club. I guess we will just have to move on. The future is a lot brighter now than it was years ago. Bernie. Men s Prez. THE HALF YEARLY AGM WILL BE HELD AT 11 AM ON SATURDAY 13 MAY, 2017. THE FULL FINANCIAL SITUATION OF THE CLUB WILL BE PRESENTED ON THAT DAY. ALL MEMBERS ARE REQUESTED TO ATTEND AS THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT DATE FOR THE CLUB. 2

LADY PRESIDENT S REPORT WHERE DO YOU FIT Its that time again, I would like to thank Barbara for the work she does with the Mermaid Tales she puts an amazing amount of time into preparing the Newsletter for our information and enjoyment. Thank you Barbara. We had a lovely Visit In It was a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon, Thank you to all. Who brought in afternoon tea, our visitors were most impressed. It has been brought up at The Committee Meeting that for future visit in s Club Uniform is preferable for our players when hosting visiting clubs. If no uniform then Bowls attire should be worn. We are continuing to attract new members, keep up the good work, making visitors welcome. We look forward to the final of Championship game, good luck and good bowling to the Participants. The best news for our Friday games is from now, all games will be $11 i.e $7 green fees $3 Prize money $1 Jackpot but, if Morning tea is supplied, then prize money will be $2 per player. Prize money of course is totally dependent on the number of players on that day. The more players the bigger the pool.. Good health, Good Bowling COBAKI VISIT Mermaid Beach Bowls Club had the pleasure of a visit from the Cobaki Social Club today 23/04/2017. 20 visitors enjoyed a great lunch and a game of bowls, which was enjoyed by many of our club members too. Thanks to all our members who provided a lovely afternoon tea, it was most appreciated. The White Ant The White Ant (undermines the foundations of all other bowlers) termites are everywhere and bowls clubs are no different. This is the bowler who will offer every bit of advice he can to selectors about why his fellow bowler is not good enough to be playing where he has been picked and why he should be the first picked in any team. Rarely spotted on the green but will talk himself up at every opportunity, while making sure he tells the selectors how ordinary all others are going. Whenever he talks about pennants he always includes himself in the top sides even though he does not roll up or play in any galas or tournaments. He will be shocked when left out of the grade he believes he should be in and will more than likely pull out for the season. Probably for the best. The members of the Mermaid Beach Bowls Club see no evil, hear no evil or speak no evil. Our three little monkeys were Joan Powell-Menzies, Julie Geoghegan and Linda Heron. Congratulations to Phil Blank for winning King Neptune $1,200 on the 28 April, 2017. Good on you Phil, and congratulations. 3

PREMIER 7s FINALS What a great time was had at Mermaid Beach Bowls Club with the Premier 7s Finals on the 1st and 2nd and 8th and 9th April. The club was buzzing with people all intent on playing great bowls or watching great bowls. Division 4 was won by Mermaid Beach, which was really terrific and we are so proud of the team. A big thank you also to all the staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly on both weekends, you did a fabulous job. To the greenkeepers a big thank, the greens were running beautifully. All in all it was a great success and we are very proud to be associated with the Mermaid Beach Bowls Club. Mermaid Beach Bowls Club hosted a great day the 7th April, 2017of 2 bowls triples. 18 teams attended with lots of great bowls, a lovely lunch and an enjoyable day was had by all. Winners were Val Young, Bernice Bryant and Hitro Enura from Tweed Heads. Second prize went to Melinda Gill, Marion McMahon and Betty Ronnfeldt. Third prize went to Barbara Mathers, Linda Heron and Glenda Schramm. A big thank you to President Joan and Games Director Julie for a great day.

Men s B Grade Singles The B Grade Men s Singles Championship was held on Saturday 29 April, 2017. Derick Coppack won against Antony Muir. A great game of bowls and congratulations to both men for reaching the finals. Congratulations to Bill Gill for winning the raffle for a television. Good on you Bill. A big thank you to Jeff Burchell, Robert and Izzy for donating the prizes and also to all the ladies who supplied Easter Eggs for the Easter raffles. Hugh Mackenzie and Alan Pritchard were the winners of the 2017 Men s Pairs. Congratulations to both Hugh and Alan on a great game. Our new bistro is under new management and the results have been terrific, The bistro is open for dinner at 5.30 pm (bookings essential) Ask Mick Langdon how good the meals are.

LET S HAVE A LAUGH A little old lady was running up and down the halls in a nursing home. As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her nightgown and say Supersex. She walked up to an elderly man in a wheelchair. Flipping her gown at him, she said Supersex. He sat silently for a moment or two and finally answered, I ll take the soup. Two elderly ladies had been friends for may decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, Now don t get made at me..i know we ve been friends for a long time, but I just can t think of your name! I ve thought and thought, but I can t remember it. Please tell me what your name is. Her friends glared at her. For a least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, How soon do you need to know? Don t Mess with us oldies An elderly lady decided to give herself a big treat for her significant birthday by staying overnight in one of Melbourne s more expensive hotels. When she checked out next morning, the desk clerk handed her a bill for $400. She exploded and demanded to know whey the charge was so high. It s a nice hotel but the rooms certainly aren t worth $400 for just an overnight stop without even breakfast. The clerk told her that $400 is the standard rate so she insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and forewarned by the desk clerk announced: The hotel has an Olympic sized pool and a huge conference centre which are available for us. But I didn t use them she said. Well they are here and you could have. explained the Manager. He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which the hotel is famous. We have the best entertainment from America, London and Glasgow performing here. The Manager said. But I didn t go to any of those shows she said. Well, we have them and you could have. the Manage replied. No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned she replied. But I didn t us it! The Manager was unmoved, so she decided to pay, wrote a cheque and gave it to the Manager. The Manager was surprised when he looked at the cheque. But madam, this cheque is only made out for $100. That s correct. I charged you $300 for sleeping with me she replied. But I didn t said the Manager. Well I was here and you could have said the lady.
