Aperflux 851 > Pressure regulators This formula is applicable to natural gas having a gas specific gravity 0.61 (air = 1) and a regulator gas inlet temperature of 60. or gases having different specific gravity S and regulator inlet temperature t in, the value of the flow rate, calculated as above, must be multiplied by a correction factor, as follows: c = S x 317.20 ( 460 + t ) Table 2 lists the correction factors c for a number of gases at 60. Table 2: orrection factors Type of gas Air Propane utane Nitrogen Oxygen arbon dioxide Specific gravity 1.0 1.53 2.0 0.97 1.14 1.52 c actor 0.78 0.63 0.55 0.79 0.73 0.63 aution: In order to get optimal performance, avoid premature diaphragm failure and limit noise emissions, it is recommended that the gas speed at the outlet flange does not exceed 492 ft/sec (150m/s). The gas speed at the outlet flange may be calculated by means of the following formula: V = 10.02 x Q 2 N 1 x 1+ (0.06895 x Pd) where: V = gas speed in ft./sec Q = gas flow rate in S N = nominal size of regulator in inches Pd = outlet pressure in psig (pressure gauge)

Pilots System Pilots Aperflux 851 regulators are equipped with series 300 pilot as listed below: - 302/ control range set point: 11 to 138 psig; (0.8 to 9.5 bar) - 304/ control range set point: 100 to 625 psig; (7 to 43 bar) - 305/ control range set point: 290 to 870 psig; (20 to 60 bar) - 307/ control range set point: 595 to 1073 psig; (41 to 74 bar) Pilots may be adjusted manually or remotely as shown in table 3: Table 3: Pilot adjusting instructions Pilot type.../a Pilot type.../ Pilot type.../s Manual setting lectric remote setting control Remote Set point increased by pneumatic signal The Pilot system comes complete with an adjustable AR100 restrictor. The flow rate of the pilot system is controlled by the bleed rate through AR100 restrictor. The K coefficients of the AR100 adjustable restrictor for its various degrees of opening are shown on ig.3. K formula used for calculating the flow rate of regulator can be applied for adjustable restrictor AR100. It is necessary to consider that pressure drop through the adjustable AR100 restrictor should be about 2.9 PSI (0.2 bar) at the minimum opening flow of the regulator and about 14.5 PSI (1 bar) at the maximum opening flow of regulator main diaphragm. Accessories The pilot loop may be completed with the accessories listed below: - supplementary filter 14 - dehydrating filter - flow-limiting - travel indicator - stainless steel fittings with single or dual sealing egrees of opening ig.3

MAX M 80 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I N Aperflux 851 > Pressure regulators Incorporated silencer /819 Whenever specific decibel levels are required, the silencer allows you to considerably reduce the decibel (da) noise emissions during the gas pressure regulators operation as in example (ig. 4). The diagram in ig.5 demonstrates the silencers efficiency at specified working conditions. The Aperflux 851 pressure regulator can be supplied with an incorporated silencer in either the standard version, with incorporated slam-shut or incorporated monitor regulator. With the built-in silencer the g and K valve coefficients are only slightly lower than the corresponding version without the silencer. iven the modular arrangement of the regulator, the silencer may be retrofitted to both standard Aperflux 851 version as well as those with incorporated slam-shut or monitor, without any piping modification. Pressure reduction and control operate in the same manner as standard version. 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 da (A) 100 Noise level 95 90 85 80 75 70 65 60 Not silenced Silenced Aperflux N 4" Pu = 1000 PSI Pd = 70 PSI 55 0 175 350 525 700 875 1050 low rate S x 1000 Aperflux 851 + /851 ig.4 ig.5

MAX M 80 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I N Monitor The monitor regulator is used for over pressure protection either as a single unit or in conjunction with a relief valve. It is an emergency regulator that comes into operation when the main control regulators downstream operating pressure increases until reaching the monitor set-point pressure. The Monitor regulator is then available to take over the pressure control. The Monitor regulator is available in two versions, incorporated in the same regulator body as the control regulator or installed as a separate regulator. PM/819 Incorporated This emergency regulator (monitor) is directly assembled to the body of the main regulator. oth pressure regulators, therefore, use the same valve body with the following exceptions: - are governed by two independent pilots and by separate regulator valve seats. - the operational characteristics of the PM/819 monitor are the same as for the Reflux 819 regulator (refer to specific catalog). - the g and K coefficients of regulator having an incorporated monitor are equivalent to approximately 93% of those for standard version. Another great advantage offered by the incorporated monitor regulator is that it can be installed at any time, even on an already existing Aperflux 851, without piping modifications. 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 Aperflux 851+ PM/819 ig.6

MAX M 80 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 80 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 I N MAX M 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 I N MAX M 80 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 I N Aperflux 851 > Pressure regulators In-line monitor The monitor is generally installed upstream of the main regulator. Although the function of the monitor regulator is different, the two regulators are virtually identical from the point of view of their mechanical components. The only difference is that the monitor is set at a higher pressure than the main regulator. The g and K coefficients of the regulator plus in-line monitor system are about 20% lower than those of the regulator alone. R14/A 204/A M/A AR.. AR.. The set point of M/A accelerator is usually set higher than set point of the monitor by 4 to 7 Psig.

MAX M 80 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I N MAX M 80 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I N Slam shut This device immediately stops gas flow (SAV) whenever a failure causes downstream pressure to rise reaching the set point of the slam-shut itself. The slam-shut device can also be closed manually. Incorporated Slam shut The Aperflux 851 pressure regulator offers the possibility of installing an incorporated slum shut valve S/82 (fig. 9) or /97 valve (fig.10), either from the factory or retrofit in the field. The g and K coefficients of a regulator plus incorporated slam-shut system are equivalent to about 93% of those for standard versions. The incorporated slam shut can also be retrofitted to Aperflux 851 regulators without modifying the pressure regulator assembly. The main characteristics of this device are: - overpressure and underpressure pressure shut off; - manual push-button control; - option for pneumatic or electromagnetic remote control; - manual re-setting with internal by-pass activated by the lever mechanism; - compact dimensions; - easy maintenance; - possibility of installing remote signal devices (contact switches or proximity switches). 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 ig.9 ig.10

Aperflux 851 > Pressure regulators Installation Whenever Aperflux 851 pressure regulator is being installed, it is essential to follow a few basic rules in order to ensure the equipment s operational and performance characteristics. These rules may be summarized as follows: a) iltering: the gas arriving from the main pipeline must be adequately filtered; it is also advisable to make sure that the pipe upstream of the regulator is perfectly clean and void of residual impurities; b) Pre-heating: whenever the pressure drop at the regulator is considerable, the gas must be pre-heated enough to avoid the formation of ice during decompression (for reference the natural gas temperature drop is about 1 for every 14.5 PSI of pressure reduction); c) ondensate collector: natural gas sometimes contain traces of vapor-state hydrocarbons that can interfere with the functioning of the pilot. It is therefore necessary to install a condensate collector, complete with drainage system, upstream of the pilot circuit; d) Outlet pipe size must also be sized correctly so the velocity is not to high. igh velocity will result in improper pressure control. e) Impulse take-off: for correct operation, the impulse take-off must be located in the right position. etween the regulator and the downstream take-off there must be a straight length of pipe 4 times the diameter of the outlet pipe and downstream of the take-off, there must be a further length of pipe 2 times the same diameter (example below).
