The Troyan Constitution may not be officially changed without the approval of the executive committee.

14 ASH Pomline Demerit Guidelines The demerit system is a method that establishes structure and discipline within the squad. It holds the member responsible for her/his actions and helps maintain a dedicated squad. The following are reasons for demerits and the consequences that will follow. Reasons: 1 demerit A member will receive one demerit if she/he arrives tardy to practice or a game, is not appropriately dressed and ready to practice on time, does not observe the no cell phone rule, does not observe the nail length rule, or does not observe the no jewelry rule. 2 demerits A member will receive two demerits if she/he is absent from practice or a game without either a written doctor s excuse or a note from another school sponsored activity leader PRIOR to the absence. If the member is absent from school for the entire day because of illness she/he is automatically excused, given the school receives a doctor s note. If the member is not picked up from event/game/practice within 15 minutes of end time, he/she will receive demerits. 3 demerits A member will receive demerits for inappropriate and/or disrespectful behavior at the sponsor s discretion. Consequences: Every 2 demerits Every 2 demerits received will result in running. The team is dependent on all members being present and behaving correctly. Any time one member is unreliable, the whole team is affected. 5 demerits The accumulation of five demerits will result in a one-game suspension. Practices and all other Troyans activities (wearing uniform to school, travel with team, etc.) will still be required but the member will be benched at the next game. 10 demerits The accumulation of ten demerits will result in permanent suspension from the team. ** All demerits are accumulated and will not be erased from a member s record. At the start of a new school year all demerits from the previous year will be erased. **Note: The only excusable absences from practice or events are 1) illness (must have been absent from school for illness for the entire day if it is a school day) and 2) other school-sponsored event. The member MUST still bring a doctor s or school activity sponsor s note to the next practice and MUST also notify the sponsor ahead of time.

15 Alexandria Senior High Pom Squad Demerit System Explanation: The purpose of pomline is to perform and cheer at all football games (home and away), home basketball games, and home and away playoff games as specified. Troyans are expected to act according to certain standards as they are considered a positive reflection and credit to Alexandria Senior High. Demerits will be given by the squad sponsor when deemed necessary. The demerit system is a method that establishes structure and discipline. It holds the member responsible for her actions and helps maintain a dedicated squad. Why we have demerit system: To set expectations for ourselves To teach one s responsibility to a group To help individuals realize consequences of their actions To help create a unified group Overview: Demerits will be calculated on a yearly basis. At the beginning of each year, each Troyan should be able to start over with a blank slate provided she has either made up demerits and/or fully realized the consequences of her actions/inactions which is subject to sponsor and/or administrative approval. Demerits will not carry over from one year to the next. Squad members and their parents will be informed by the sponsor every 4 ½ weeks with an account of the accumulated or demerit(s). Demerits will be given out as deemed necessary. Troyans will always be aware of how many demerits he/she has and why he/she has accumulated that number. After a Troyan has accumulated five (5) demerits, he/she will be placed on probation. Pomline members are allowed ten (10) demerits each. Upon receiving your tenth (10 th ) demerit, the Troyan will be considered for dismissal. The sponsor and/or school administration ultimately reserve the authority to make this decision. Please note that the rules that follow are general guidelines for all pomline members. Failure to comply with any of the following may result in the specified number of demerits and may at times require judgment calls to be made. These decisions will be left up to the sponsor and/or school administration. General Rules: Each Troyan is required by Alexandria Senior High to have and maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout the school year. If a Troyan falls below the required GPA, she will be placed on a probationary period until the next grading period or until proper documentation is shown to the sponsor; if her grades do not improve after the next two grading periods, she will be dismissed from the squad. Probation requires the squad member to attend all practices and games but will not be allowed to cheer. Each Troyan will respond to all sponsor s and faculty member s directions. The sponsor has a zero-tolerance policy for those who choose to disrespect and show disregard for those in authority. Troyans will respect each other. No bickering, arguing, cursing, or rude behavior will be tolerated. Each Troyan will follow Rapides Parish s alcohol and drug policy at ALL times. All Troyans will be expected to follow all Alexandria Senior High School and Rapides Parish rules and regulations.

Because pomline will have year round events, parents will spend a great deal of time with this activity. Parents and Coaches must have a mutual respect towards each other at all times. Although differences of opinions may arise at times, it is imperative that the parents and coaches continue to be the adults in every situation. *A respectful discussion can occur once the event has ENDED and the team is dismissed. This is out of respect for the team members. Parents must recognize that the Coach has the final say as to whether or not your child will participate in performances with the team. Just as we expect our dancers to uphold good sportsmanship and character, so too must the parents representing our team. All parents/guardians or those persons acting on behalf of any pomline member (including but not limited to step-parents, grandparents, etc.) are expected to be mindful of their words and actions while representing Pomline at all games, performances, competitions, fundraisers, and any other team sponsored events. All practices are closed. We need to have the member s full attention during practices and can accomplish more without parents, siblings, and friends moving in and out of the practice area. If you need to speak with the coaches, please wait until the team has been dismissed from practice or the performing event. It is required that each pomline member and a parent/guardian be present for all parent meetings.
