Getting to know one another at El Dorado Estates is proving to be very enjoyable. Whether you like to chat it up with those you barely know or just listen in, it has been interesting meeting our neighbors. Come for a brief visit or stay for awhile. It s a nice emotional boost to gather together and share in some laughter, and at the very least, put a name to a face! On Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, we baked four dozen chocolate chip cookies in the Activity Room Kitchen and then ate a lot of them at the Meet Your Neighbor Social that afternoon. Check out one of the Socials; you never know who you might meet or what you may have in common! Back row: Mary, Fleurette and Karol. Front row: Jean, Jonnie, Gertie, Shelly, Maggi and Hans.

Right on Cue! Our Billiard Room has been getting quite a bit of use! The first group to try their hand at a game of rotation was George Mannion, Keith Walter, Patti Walter and Elaine Griffith. Woot, woot! It was a good time getting reacquainted with the game or learning it for the first time! Go to the second floor and you will see that our Billiard Room is the beautiful loft overlooking the lovely Dining Room below. In addition to finding a game of rotation or 8-ball in progress, you may also meet some Bridge players or Scrabble players at the card tables. George and Keith Elaine and Patti Dessert Extravaganza! Chef Carlos and Jessica prepared and served a beautiful array of delectable desserts. There were fruit tarts, Cannoli, lemon cheesecake, assorted mini cheesecakes and petit fours, as well as some yummy low sugar desserts. The tiramisu, German chocolate cake and carrot cake were the low sugar options. Listening to live entertainment and dipping pineapple cubes, strawberries and marshmallows into the chocolate fountain completed the dessert sampling experience for residents and guests.

Road Trip! We had a fun road trip to the Red Hawk Casino! Inside, the group spread out to feed the hungry gaming machines. Several of us got lucky, and Grace the gaming machines gave back more than they took in! Yay! We will be going to Red Hawk monthly, so if you didn t make the trip this time, remember to get your name on the sign-up sheet in the Activity Room for our next trip on Wednesday, September 13th. Mary, Lorraine, Connie, Trudy, Gertie, Elaine, Betty, Jean, Mort and Jim Almost Time for Bingo! Such a lovely sight, early Bingo players reading the newsletter as they wait for others to arrive. Notice the construction going on outside the windows. Our landscaping crew is still working hard to finish our raised garden beds, lawn, plantings, courtyard, fire pit, dog park, etc. It is looking to be quite beautiful. Okay, back to bingo. We have been playing straight bingo and all the creative bingo patterns such as four corners, three-layer cake, large picture frame, small picture frame, postage stamps, and a couple new ones for most wedding cake and telephone pole! If you want to join us, we play every Monday, at 2:30 p.m. Meet Mary Choinard! Mary grew up in San Francisco during the time when streetcars were the mode of transportation. She also walked to many destinations. A favorite memory of hers is when she represented the Fairmont School s eighth grade class in the walk across the Golden Gate Bridge when it opened in 1937. To get away from city life, Mary and her family enjoyed going to Yosemite, where Mary swam in the river and hiked Half Dome! Her mother had a beautiful voice and sang the Indian Love Call at Camp Curry at 9 p.m., when the firefall came down from Glacier Point. Mary got married at age 19. She met her husband when she was 18 at a roller skating rink in San Francisco. He was in the Coast Guard and they were very happily married for 54 years. They were blessed with three children: Marlene, who lives in Folsom; Cheryl, who lives in Elk Grove; and Harold, who was in the Air Force, but passed away in a glider accident. In addition, Mary has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mary likes playing bridge, gardening, swimming and dancing. She loves living here, relaxing and enjoying the good life! Meet Ty and Tyg Ty is a friendly dog that came to live with Keith and Patti Walter in an unusual manner. Patti s nephew, HK, was at a wedding in Fort Worth, Texas, and saw a dog loose in the street. He decided to recruit his grandson, Tyler, to go out and try to catch the dog. Tyler was successful and brought the dog to HK, who kept the dog and named it Ty after his grandson. He emailed Keith and Patti a photo of Ty, thinking they might like to take him in as they had just lost their pet dog three months earlier. HK then drove back to Denver and took Ty with him. Keith and Patti were in their motorhome coming back from New York. Keith and Patti picked Ty up in Denver and took him home. Ah, but the story doesn t end here. The Walters love animals and also have a big cat named Tyg. That s Ty with a g added on. You see Ty found Tyg. Keith and Patti were set to go out to lunch one day, but first Keith had to take Ty out. Well, Ty headed straight for a wood pile. It just so happened that there was a cat under that wood pile that shot out and up a 15 foot wall when it got wind of Ty. Keith got a ladder out to rescue the cat, but while Keith was climbing the ladder to retrieve the cat, the cat jumped down off the wall and Patti was able to take the cat inside. After a trip to the vet, Tyg was officially a member of the family. Ty is six years old and Tyg is four years old, and it is obvious they love each other and their owners. Ty and Keith Tyg Our soft-serve machine is working 24 hours a day to keep our residents cool and happy! So far we have had vanilla and chocolate soft-serve ice cream. Some like it in a cone and others like in a cup; either way, it s refreshingly good! Come to the Activity Room Kitchen and enjoy meeting new friends over this treat that is sure to make you smile! 24/7 Soft-Serve Is So Cool! Joan, Marie, Fleurette, Gerry, Angela and Lorraine
