Javelina Mascot Tryouts will be held April 28-April 29, 2017 All paperwork must be complete in order to tryout. A schedule of tryouts times is attached in packet. The following checklist will be turned in prior to tryouts: $30 Application Fee Please make checks payable to: Javelina Cheer Application Form Waiver, Indemnification, and Medical Treatment Form: This waiver is necessary for possible injury you might sustain in tryouts. Returnees and incoming candidates must have this form complete. If under 18 you must have a parent sign Minor Release form. TAMUK will not cover any expenses from injury at tryouts for incoming or returning Candidates. Copy of Acceptance Letter from TAMUK A copy of your unofficial transcript All new candidates. Tryout Information Packet 2016 PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY General Information All documents must be filled out and may be mailed or submitted the day of registration. Please make sure to include all material, forms and non-refundable application fee. FITNESS REQUIREMENT We have no set limits. We do not have minimum or maximum height/weight requirements. There are however, fitness requirements. Cheer Team members must be in good physical condition to properly wear the uniform and to handle the intense physical training and performance requirements. A fitness assessment will be administered. SKIT REQUIREMENT Skit 1 ½ minute skit to music Use of props is encouraged to enhance routine Skits should be done in pantomime Skits should incorporate spirit raising and crowd involvement skills Skits will not include any one outside of tryouts CATEGORIES EVALUATED ON CREATIVE-TACTFUL MIMIC, IDENTITY, AND USE OF PROPS SCHOOL SPIRIT-CROWD INVOLVEMENT SKILLS IMPROVISATION-BODY LANGUAGE IS METHOD OF COMMUNICATION. NOTE: YOU MAY USE ANY TRYOUT PARTICIPANTS FOR YOUR SKIT. OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE IS NOT ALLOWED. TRYOUT REQUIREMENT All applicants must be full-time TAMUK students with a minimum of twelve hours and must remain a full-time student for the academic year. Must maintain above a 2.0 Cumulative Great Point Average. Returnees must be given a bid by Cheer Coach. If selected a nonrefundable fee of $350.00 will be required first week of June, NCA or UCA Cheer Camp is mandatory. Failure to attend NCA or UCA Cheer Camp will result in dismissal. TRYOUT JUDGES The judging panel will consists of 3 judges. All results made by the judges committee and Head Cheer Coach will be final. Head Cheer Coach will only discuss results with applicant. Decisions are final. CONDUCT Candidates are expected to encourage and be supportive of other candidates. No food or gum chewing is allowed in facilities. Water bottles only- No sodas or juices. No video-taping of tryouts. Tryouts are closed to the public. WHAT TO WEAR Girls: Black Shorts & White T-Shirt. Boys: Black Shorts & White T-Shirt. No belly rings or jewelry of any sort is allowed for clinic and tryouts. 2
