THE OPPORTUNITY This brief outlines the opportunity to be involved as a partner of a new event on the Australian Aero modelling calendar The Gratton Air Invitational. Action, great planes, jets, 3D helicopters, DLG Discuss Gliders, 1/8 th 4 x 4 Off Road Buggies, props, colour, great people an awesome spectacle showcasing aviation, modelling, craftsmanship and cutting edge technology. On the 14 th 15 th 16 th and 17 th February 2013 we at CALVERT Model Field (Ipswich QLD) will be holding an event that will bring together five different Principals of Flying and Driving (Scale, Pylon, 3 D Helicopter, DLG Discuss Launch Gliders and 1/8 th 4 x 4 Off road). These Models will both excite the sponsor and captivate the mass of public who will attend the event to watch these models and pilots at their best. EXECUTIVE SUMMERY This proposal outlines an exciting opportunity to be involved with this high profile event, with competition at the leading edge of Australian Model Sport Aviation. In today's economic environment, sponsorship / branding value is as important as competitive performance. The immaculate preparation of the Gratton Air Invitational offers outstanding brand positioning as well as value for money promotional and marketing opportunities. This event is about promoting Australian craftsmanship, sportsmanship, model aviation development and the showcasing of a fantastic piece of rural Australia. The participants in the events are respected, talented and leading performers in their individual disciplines from a variety of backgrounds with wide mass market viewing audiences. By joining the Gratton Air Invitational your company will be the winner with long a timeframe and genuine Australia wide promotion of the Events to the market. It is our intention to break down the barriers and provide an unparalleled form of flying to entertain all. The event will be open to the public and publicized through the Print Media, Local Radio and Local Television. The Event will also help raise Donations to the following foundations 1) Toowoomba Hospital Children s Appeal 2) Rosewood Hospice There will be a Retail Alley provided for all sponsors and suppliers to both show and sell their wares. It is our intention to invite the best pilots and Drivers for each of these Principals together from both Australia and where possible international community. These pilots are handpicked for their professional flying skills and will no doubt entertain all.
THE EVENT ORGANISERS The event will be run and controlled by the organisational chairman Chris Gratton, Event Organiser Steve Thomas and CD Greg Tracey. WHAT IS THE GRATTON AIR INVITATIONAL ALL ABOUT MODEL FLYING events such as the Gratton Air Invitational are expertly controlled, where competitors fly their Radio Controlled aircraft in different classes of events. For example in the Scale Competition the competitors showcase their aircraft to a panel of judges who assess them against the fidelity of the model (Static Score) and the ability to fly it in a way that depicts the full size aircraft (Flight Score). In the Pylon Racing events, it is an outright race that combines the speed of the aircraft and the pilot s skill to get the aircraft around the course in the fastest time. Competitors need to rely on the models handling and manoeuvring as well as their own reflexes, judgement and skill. It is not always about speed alone. The winner of each principal is the Competitor who has amassed the highest aggregate score taken on the combination of the scores at the end of the event. COMPETITOR NUMBERS The Gratton Air Invitational policy will be to run as the name suggests a specialised invitational style competition that has a maximum of 92 Pilots competing in four Principals over the 4 day event. The event will be as follows 1) Scale (Sportsman, Expert, Masters, Team) - 6 rounds of 36 pilots 2) 3D Helicopter Freestyle - 5 rounds of 8 pilots 3) DLG Discuss launch Glider 5 rounds of 12 Pilots 4) Scale Pylon Racing 5 rounds of Reno 12 Pilots, 5 rounds of Texan 12 Pilots, 5 rounds of Golden Era Inline 12 Pilots = 36 Pilots. 5) 1/8 th 4 x 4 Off Road 20 rounds over Saturday and Sunday. 12 Drivers. Total Pilots and Drivers for the Event - 92 We will also have a lunch time flying extravaganza to keep the public enthused 1) 245 inch Catalina (World s Largest RC PBY Catalina) 2) Formation Jets (International Invitee Ali Machinchy from the UK) 3) 2 x A10 warthogs in Formation 4) 3D Aerobat freestyle to Music 5) 3 x WW2 Fighter Formation Flying 6) 1/6 th Scale Huey
TYPES OF AIRCRAFT Forget the idea that you may have about model aircraft until you see these machines. Can you imagine a full scale replica of a modern jet fighter, complete with a real jet turbine engine? What about if it flies at 300 plus kms/hr and is steered around the ski using remote control? What about a replica WW2 vintage Spitfire that has a 3 metre wingspan, 150 cc motor and flies at 200 km s/hour? 3D helicopters hovering inverted inches from the ground performing amazing stunts. A mass of DLG Distant Launch Gliders being spring launched into the air all at once. Or an 86 inch War bird in a race around 5 meter pylons flying within inches of each other. Add to that 1/8 th 4 x 4 Buggies hurtling around a 50 meter purpose built track with jumps and turns. One asks themselves who would risk flying a model aircraft that could be worth up to $30,000? COMPETITORS The competitors would be from a broad cross section, as the aircraft themselves. All competitors are true enthusiasts generally males aged between 18 80 years and all must be of the highest skill in building and flying to be worthy of an invite. Competitors will be invited from all over the world, with the majority coming from Australia. MEDIA COVERAGE The Event provides the opportunity to film all aspects of the competition, from briefings, flying events and social functions. This will be made available to sponsors for promotional use. A Public Relations consultant will be provided to liaise with all media agencies. With this style of event we attract major media partners. General editorial and news coverage nationally will be achieved due to the exciting nature of the event. The use of any other approved marketing programs by partners of the event is encouraged SPECTATOR VIEWING Due to the excellent nature of the location of the event, and the facilities that are provided designated spectator areas are open to the general public. Safe spectator vantage points will be identified and closely marshalled throughout the event. Event officials will be posted to ensure safety of spectators
