May 2016 Edgewood View W H E R E H E R I T A G E & E X C E L L E N C E C O M E T O G E T H E R F r o m t h e D e s k o f t h e G e n e r a l M a n a g e r April was a busy month for us here at Edgewood! Not only did we experience great participation with our weekly Build Your Own Pizza Night each Tuesday of the month (with an average of 50+ members and their guests attending each week), we continue to have solid turnouts for our Family Night Buffets, and Steak Out Thursdays! Thank you for your continued efforts to support your Club. As discussed in last month s article, during the month of April we installed a new computer system for the Club. Although the first couple of weeks proved to be somewhat of a challenge, the team here at Edgewood pushed-on and the system has been installed is up and running. As we continue to tweak the system over the coming month(s), and learn the insand-outs of this much needed equipment, I continue to ask for your patience and understanding. As a member you will immediately start seeing a difference in the look of your printed statement that arrives this month. Additionally, if you log on to our website (edgewoodcc.com) you will also recognize that you now have the ability to view your statement (starting with April 2016 statement) in much greater detail than you ever could before You can actually look at (and print if desired) a specific dining room ticket for example, right from your home computer, tablet or smartphone! I would like to challenge any member who has not yet requested a username and password for access to your club s website to contact Martha in the main office (304-343-5557 ext.103) she will provide you with all the information you need to start using this feature of the Club. Additionally, I would also like to challenge ALL MEMBERS to log on to the website and update your membership profile with as much detail as possible including updating your e-mail address, making note of Opt-In Groups you and your family wish to receive information about and to upload a picture of you, your spouse and children. By having an updated profile on the website, we as a company, will be better educated on providing you with the information you want most from your Club. In addition to the previously mention computer system upgrades, your club s website has also been upgraded and is now mobile friendly! What this means is that everything you could previously do on our website with your PC at home/work, you can now do online with a tablet and/or smartphone. Although visible but not yet totally ready for member use, some of the features that will become activated and usable over the next couple of weeks are: Golf Tee Time Reservations, Squash Court Reservations, Dining Room Reservations and Spa Reservations! Be looking for an e-mail from me in the coming weeks that will outline these features and their activation. As we advance through May please be looking for information via e-mail that will inform you of the activation of these features and how they can be used. In closing this month, I simply wish to say thank you for your efforts in bringing in quality new members into your Club! Outlined below are 7 of the first 10 new memberships that have joined Edgewood under the Bonus Pyramid Membership Initiative. Please keep in mind that the program ends on May 20th and with that end date comes the end to membership sponsor credits as well as reduced Initiation fees and monthly credits for new members as well! I look forward to seeing you at your club. Shane Barry Jones Andrew C. Robey Danielle Waltz Welcome New Member s Jason Collet Kate Forman Amber Hodgdon Gordon Lane Jr.

F r o m t h e E C C C h e f Live to eat Spring brings out a great variety of vegetables and none that is celebrated as much as asparagus. Without a doubt it s the favorite and most requested among our members. I enjoy its versatility in salads along with different preparations that can accompany an entrée. Just by making a simple citrus vinaigrette or topping it with lemon butter and pine nuts, the flavors of the asparagus brings success to any dish. Here s a quick but flavorful recipe that warrens trying. In preparing your asparagus its best to steam it until bright green, tender, yet still having a bit of crispness to the stem. Chef Dennis Harris Combine all the above ingredients and whisk for 30 seconds until emulsified. Drizzle over freshly cooked asparagus and serve hot or this can be chilled and used over salad greens to enhance your entrée or luncheon. Dennis Harris Executive Chef 3 Tbl. Toasted Pine nuts 2 Lb. F r o m t h e P r o S h o p Hole in One Club When a member of the Hole-in-One club makes an ace in a regulation round of golf (9 or 18 holes), he or she receives in merchandise $5.00 times the number of club members at that time. On the day of the hole-in-one, all members of the club will be charged $5.00 on their monthly statement. This membership renews every year so if you have been a member you will automatically be signed up unless you ask to be removed from the club. The holein-one must be witnessed and made at Edgewood Country Club. Important note: You will not be charged unless another member of the club makes a Hole-In-One. From the Lesson Tee You've got a wedge to the green. You rear back and bam! the ball comes knuckling off the club dead right. You caught it so far off the heel, you hit the hosel and golf's most alarming shot: the shank. The shank comes from having a weak grip, which leaves the face wide open at impact and exposes the hosel. (A weak grip means your hands are turned too far toward the target on the grip.) Strengthen your grip a little to help square the face at impact. Another cause is standing too close to the ball. Move as far from the ball as you can and still make contact. This makes the path more from the inside. Hopefully the nightmares go away, too.
