K V M A Meeting Minutes for 11-1-2017 Meeting was brought to order at 7:17 PM, with 8 members present. The minutes from the last meeting, were accepted as published in the newsletter. The treasures report was accepted as read. Old business; The AMA no longer has pilot patches available, so Steve Symonds will look for another source. The final float fly at Ron's camp was a success. Not much flying, but everything at camp got put away for the winter. Thanks Ron for having us at your camp. New business; Club dues are now due. Our porta-potty was blown over in the recent wind event. Rollie will base 2018's event schedule, on last year s schedule. Dave Begin's wife Betty is making some new wind socks. The club will pay for the materials. Thanks Betty. A motion was made, and it was it voted that, any person who has been a member of this club for five years or more, and who reaches the age of eighty, will be given free membership for life, provided they maintain AMA membership. Meeting adjourned at 7:42 PM Minutes submitted by Wayne White (secretary)

Page 3 Flight Demostration at Kents Hill School Submitted by John Dyer Eric Guilmet was recently asked by Melissa Small of the Maple Tree Community School to put on a flying demonstration for some Elementary and Middle School students there, ranging in age from 6 to 11 years old. Eric organized the flight demonstration for Friday, the 20th of October at Kents Hill complex in Readfield. The soccer field at Kents Hill, which is comprised of artificial turf, was the perfect venue with lots of open space. The wind was not very cooperative and really blew pretty hard, gusting at times to near 20 mph. At 9:00 Eric made introductions and turned it over to Bob Bailey. Bob, who had graciously driven up from Owls Head, gave a great presentation on aeronautics followed by a question and answer period. Eric then took the Valiant up for a flight demonstration, while Bob narrated each maneuver that Eric performed. The kids seemed to especially like the loops and rolls! Andrea came out and helped with the flying and got a chance to fly a little too! Bill Larisey, a member of Sky Streakers and the Portland Prop Snappers clubs, drove up from Portland to also help out with the flying. Bill brought a Kadet rigged with two gas tanks in series, so he could stay up for 45 minutes, which he did. Bill took off once and landed once! The Kadet was set up on a wireless buddy box, which was really the only way to fly on this day with the wind. I let the kids fly my glider, but had to hang on to the transmitter with the left hand in case of trouble. Eric had the kids flying the Timber on a buddy box. We flew in three groups of approximately 6 kids each and everyone had a chance to fly a plane. The kids in each group got a couple of turns flying and they all did great jobs for first time pilots! Bill Larisey, Bob Bailey, and Andrea Darok deserve great thanks for helping out with this event! Thank you to Melissa Small and Eric Guilmet for organizing the day!

Page 4 Last Float Fly for 2017 Got to camp about 7:30 and Joe Gilbert had got there a few minutes before I did. Joe and I went into camp and got the fire going and had a donut hole with coffee and chatted a few minutes. We than went down and got the boat in the water and started raising the legs on the dock getting ready to take it out. Joe than got his Polaris out and since the dock had some water at the end he launched it through the end of the dock, Joe got in two flights. No one else flew that day. We ended up with a crew of nine people to close up for the winter. Joe & I as mentioned, Wayne White, Bob Chapman, John Welch, Roland Woodworth, Shorty Poulin, Chris Townsend, and Barry Third. Barry got there a little later but got his boat out and did a couple of runs. After that we started on the dock and got that tied up and then got the swim raft and paddle boat out. Bob took the boat around to the boat launch and Joe & I took the trailer to the boat launch, the water was high enough that Bob drove it right on to the trailer. Joe had his boots on and went and hooked the boat on and we winched the boat onto the trailer. While doing the hook up Joe discovered that the water was a little higher than his boots and he indicated that the water was cold! Went back to the camp and got the hot dogs out, Bob did the cooking and Wayne did the rolls. We polished off the dogs and they sure tasted good after the work was done. Thank you all for getting the camp ready to close up, my wife and I used it three nights since we lost power at our house but had power and heat at the camp. Ron
