Wroclaw (POL), July 2017 New Acrobatic Athlete Representative for the FIG Athletes Commission Former Acrobatic gymnast May Miller (ISR) was elected to the FIG Athletes Commission as its representative for Acrobatic Gymnastics at The World Games in Wroclaw (POL). Chosen as the new voice of Acrobatic athletes by representatives from ten countries, the 23-year-old computer engineering student fills the space left vacant by former Acrobatic Athlete Representative Ayla Ahmadova (AZE). The daughter of a long time Acrobatic coach in Holon, Miller decided that she would make gymnastics her vocation when she was eight years old. She rose through the ranks to represent Israel as part of the country's Women's Group at the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. "This sport runs in my blood," Miller said. "After I finished my career as a gymnast, I decided I really wanted to continue promoting and developing it. I can be attentive to the athletes' wishes, to their interests. I can help them make their voices heard - I m here for you, the athletes." We would ask that all gymnasts who would like to express their views, concerns or questions with matters regarding acrobatic gymnastics to contact May on the following email so she can bring any issues raised by gymnasts to the attention of the Technical Committee and the FIG. You can contact May on the following email: maymiller15@gmail.com or by Facebook - May Miller. May Miller (base) in action at the 2016 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in Putian (CHN). 1

Sad news: Vladimir Gurgenidze, head coach of the Russian national team for the past 11 years, passed away August 24. He was only 61. In 2006, Vladimir Gurgenidze became head coach of the Russian Acrobatic Gymnastics team. Amongst the athletes with the most titles figures his own son, Revaz, who counts two World titles in Mixed Pairs. Vladimir was more than only a coach. Like his son Revas told us «He supported all of our gymnasts in their lives, even outside of the gym, as mentor or father.» Today Revaz, his brother Teimuraz, a World Champion as a member of Russia s Men s Group and their mother Larisa Gurgenidze- Tavartkiladze, supported by their family, will try to follow his ideals... A reminder to coaches and judges when preparing tariff sheets Please remember that the following article from the Code of Points (COP) applies to the production of tariff sheets: Article 37.1 A tariff sheet is the illustrated declaration, computer generated, of the pair, group and individual elements of difficulty which are to be performed. The difficulty value, the number of the page and the number of the element in the TOD must accompany each element. The intended timing of static holds must be declared. The term computer generated refers to the illustrated declaration being presented using the pictures from the TOD and presented in the correct way as prescribed in the TOD where an example of how this should be done can be found (Article 37.5 COP). Please be aware of all the articles relating to tariff sheets and the associated requirements and penalties for non-adherence to these rules. 2

s, Questions and Answers Please clarify the catch position for splits in women s group. The following catch positions for split are ALL allowed (and minor stylistic variations will be accepted e.g. holding the hand or arm and leg or shin support points optional) and should be added to the appropriate tables of difficulty: WG Swing and cannonball start and finish positions are NOT considered as horizontal positions. In the motion tables for pairs, please use the base position shown below when it is not indicated in the motion bubbles. 3

When a Russian lever is performed by the top or as an individual element with legs open the deduction is significant 0.5 and receives no difficulty. However, in a balance element the base / middle is allowed to keep the legs open from a technical performance point of view. The following top positions (stomach planch) are regarded as being identical: The leg position in the following balance can be straight or bent and is regarded as a stylistic variation. General principle: When the position of the middle is in handstand and it is not printed and given a value in the TOD, the position can be reversed and receives the same value as the mirror base position in the associated box and has the same ID coordinates. Example: P7 General Rules: Please change the following wording: Additional value for static holds & or mounts into static hold.(delete & and replace with or ) The additional values can only be claimed for static holds please remember that mounts must finish with a static hold and this is regarded as ONE element and any additional value can only be given ONE time. 4

Men s Group: In the double platform finish position, the position of the top can be standing on shoulders OR standing on hands. Please add the following additional position to the finish position V on pages 114 and 121 in the TOD. Question: MG Can the bases catch in the following finish position and if so how is the value calculated? Answer: Yes General principle: When the finish position is as indicated above, please use the finish position as indicated below for the value of the element BUT deduct the following values from those identified depending on the number of rotations. Finish Position 4/4-3 8/4-6 12/4-12 5

Examples: 4/4 + 360' Back 8/4 Back 11 4/4 +360 14-3 Total 11 10 8/4 16-6 Total 10 113: 6 - S4 113: 6 - S5 Question: Is there a deduction for the following Mexican position (legs are resting on the head)? Answer: Yes - When the gluteal muscles or legs are resting on the head there is a deduction of 0.5 for additional support. Question: Are the following start positions in pairs considered the same or not? Answer: Yes they are considered the same, please use page 11 in the TOD where the same principles for groups apply to pairs as typical positions. Question: Do the lever positions in the Age Group programme have to be performed as shown? Answer: As with the TOD, the lever position can be performed with legs together or with legs in straddle. 6

: The following forbidden positions in the Age Group programme are only for the base the middle can perform these positions. Example: For the base the weight is on the arms of the base and not on the hips. Question: Can 11-16 use words/ lyrics in one exercise? Answer: Yes : 11-16 Art 9.1: Partners must perform the 3 individual elements of the same type either simultaneously or in immediate succession. New Element Requests The following elements will be eligible for performance and have the value indicated from 1 st January 2018. Women s Group Balance: Value 16v This element will be considered as an element of box D 4, 5, 6 and 7 on page 68 TOD. Use ID code D4a. 7

Men s Group Dynamic Page: 126 12/4 Value: 36v Women s Group Dynamic Value: 10v Request from the FIG Acrobatics Technical Committee Could we please ask all coaches and gymnasts to respect the FIG code of ethics and please think about the way that your gymnasts perform entries and exits from elements and other skills. Please do this with respect to the gymnasts as some of the things that we have seen in recent competitions are not in the best interest of the sport and do not give a good impression to the spectators and general public, e.g. using the pubic area to step from. To promote Acro in the World: Note from Blythe Lawrence - member of the media team at the FIG: When something happens in the World of Acro, we totally want to hear about it. We'll do articles for the FIG website. We'll work with you to arrange interviews. We'll share the news on Facebook and Twitter. Sending us news of honors gymnasts receive, of cool things they're doing when they aren't in the gym, their special projects, anything unusual would be excellent. Please contact me at: blawrence@fig-gymnastics.org 8
