November 24th, 25th & 26th Thanksgiving Recess Happy Thanksgiving! Fall is certainly here! As the air is cooler and the leaves are changing color we have all settled back into our daily routines at school. As we look around us each day we truly have many things to be thankful for. The children that we are blessed to work with everyday bring us great joy! Some reminders about visiting your child during the school day: When visiting you child for lunch, please do not bring in restaurant food. Please have your child bring his lunch or buy lunch in the cafeteria. Please stop in the school office to sign in and receive a visitor s pass when coming to school to help out. Please only go to the classroom of the teacher that is expecting you. Visiting classrooms when the Please do not go to classrooms when teachers are not expecting you. Teachers need to be attentive to the students and it becomes very disruptive. If you need to speak with a teacher, please leave a message and the teacher will contact you when they have a break in their schedule. Please remember there is no parking in the front parking lot in the morning or between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Please do not pull into the parking lot when the walkers are being dismissed. The safety of the children is our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Students must bring a note to school if they are planning to leave school by another means of transportation than they normally use. This helps a tremendous amount at the end of the day.

OKTOBERFEST SWEEPSTAKES A HUGE SUCCESS! Our Oktoberfest Sweepstakes was very successful due to the overwhelming support of SSPP school parents. Oktoberfest is the Parents Guilds biggest fundraiser of the year. Thank you to the numerous parents who volunteered at the party as well as all of the wonderful dessert bakers. It was exciting to see so many new parents volunteering for this event. Welcome to the St Pete's family!!! Special thanks are extended to Immaculata Academy for donating the tickets and to Try-it Distributing for our beverages; Michelle Brady for coordinating the parish mailing; Nicole Amodeo for school sales; Barb Blake for ticket distribution and maintaining the database; Deb Anderson for handling sold tickets; all the ticket captains (Mark and Lori Lee, Barb and Jim Blake, Tom and Bridget Wood, Mark and Diane Dipasquale, Joe and Celeste Gray, Beth and Lorraine in the rectory and Mrs. Kirst and Mrs. Mills for school office sales). Thank you, also, to Maureen Casey for coordinating mass sales and to Janice Adams, Celeste Gray and Barb Blake for guiding us along the way. Sincere appreciation to Lisa Stapleton, Jen Fleming and Karen McDonell for organizing the Early Bird Drawing, Fr. Wolski and Fr. Jim for promoting and selling tickets at church, Jay Fleming who organized the bar and Sue Young who put a tremendous effort into managing all the delicious food. Character First of Hamburg Laura Ruszczyk SENSITIVITY The character virtue for the months of November and December is sensitivity. Sensitivity perceives the true attitudes and emotions of those around me. The more a person is sensitive to the needs of others, the more perception he will gain in all areas of life. To show sensitivity: I will _ Listen to others fully Watch facial expressions Notice tone of voice Put myself in others shoes Show that I care In the book Growing Character by Deb Austin Brown, there is a section on growing good character. The author writes that just like an athlete training for strength, it takes daily practice to become strong in character. Pump yourself up with good character by discussing the below traits with your family and by practicing these habits at home. Be kind to your classmates and family Tell the truth to your teachers and parents. Do your best in school. Think things through. Make good decisions. Study for tests. Do your homework. Do your chores at home without being told. Show compassion and cooperation on the home front. REMINDER Please remember to send in your Boxtops or Campbell soup labels for redemption. All qualifying labels can be turned in to the school office. For questions or information, please contact Kelly Jaworski ( 6 4 6-6 8 6 4 ) o r jaws9292@msn.com. Enchanted Evening AUCTION 2011 March 26 th T h i s i s a biannual event at our school that is unlike any other fundraiser. The gymnasium is transformed into an atmosphere for an elegant sit down dinner and open bar. The evening starts out with a silent auction and cocktail service with a decadent display of appetizers. There are various items in the silent auction in all price ranges. There is also a $10 chance table, where you purchase an item (last time it was a SSPP sports sack) which contains a prize ranging from jeans day pass to a gift card valued up to $20. Following a catered sit down dinner, a live auction begins on stage. Auction items range from classroom art projects, weekend trips, large appliances, and sports packages. Gifts and prizes are collected throughout the year at gift gathering parties. These parties are generously hosted by a group of parents at a home or at a location such as a restaurant or Willowbend. Gatherings will be themed so as you know what to bring (Bills or Sabres merchandise, wine, etc.) or as always, a cash donation. Following the live auction, the remainder of the evening is enjoyed by great music and dancing. T h i s eve n t i s well attended and will sell out due to limited seating. Tickets will go on sale after the first of the year and will be $50 each. I can only speak from my experience when I volunteered on the donation committee at the very first auction. I didn t know very many people nor did I ever think that someday I would be chairing this very event! The committee met every few weeks for about an hour with a few light responsibilities. It never seemed like work as we laughed and shared ideas which resulted in a successful auction and long lasting friendships. This year we are raffling a trip to Disney valued at $2,000! The cost is $10/ticket which will begin in November. The winning ticket will be pulled at the auction and you do not need to be present to win. We will send home two tickets to each family to try and sell and if you would like to take 5 or 10 ticket packages to work, additional tickets can be arranged. I encourage you to start thinking or saving for this one of a kind event at our school. Consider signing up on one of the committees on the next page and be included in on the fun. I love talking about this event so please call/email me if you would like to learn more or share your ideas!! Kelly Jaworski 646-6864 jaws9292@msn.com Help from Home Michelle Brady Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help from home. A list of volunteers has been compiled and will be forwarded to event chairpersons, who will contact you as needed. Thank you for your generosity of time and talent! Any questions can be directed to Michelle Brady (648-5383).

Saints Sports Section Janice Adams Soccer The 2010 soccer season saw a significant change for most of our teams. All of the younger teams joined the Varsity in participating in the Fr. Baker Soccer League, an outdoor league which involves many of the Southtowns finest Catholic grade school soccer programs. The Varsity Soccer team steadily improved all season to finish with two straight wins and an overall mark of 2-3-1, missing the championship round of the playoffs by 1 point. The team scoring leaders were Brandon Seifert and Katie Simon, while Henry Zimmer and Quincy Adams capped a fine overall defensive effort by combining for two straight shutouts to finish the year. As of the date of this printing the JV team was coming off of a stunning victory by scoring three goals in the final five minutes of the game, propelling them into the championship game the weekend of October 23-24. The JV squad has posted a 3-2-1 record so far this year, and is led in scoring by Katie Villarini, Henry Young and Matt Bull, while Brian Tatar has been a stone wall in goal for the JV green and gold. The 3 rd and 4 th grade team and 1 st and 2 nd grade team both finished a spirited season of outdoor soccer action showing the promise and development of many budding SS. Peter and Paul soccer superstars of the future! We hope all of players had as much fun as the coaches. Special thanks to all of parents and coaches who helped nearly 100 student athletes enjoy another season of St. Pete s soccer! Cross Country Coach Villarini At the time of this writing, Cross Country is half-way through the season. Thirty-seven students have participated in Cross Country this season. Congratulations to everyone, for such great efforts, in running strong and hard in practice & meets. It's not easy, especially in the cold and rain! Everyone should pat themselves on the back for reaching their personal goals. We are so proud of you all. So far, the Girls have placed 1st in all their meets and the Boys have taken 2 nd place in all their meets. The final cross country meet for the season was Monday October 26 th. Pizza & trophies were handed out after the meet to all runners. Final results will be posted in the next newsletter. Thanks to all the parents for their support and help at the cross country meets in Cazenovia Park and at practice. I couldn't do it without all of you!!! Happy Thanksgiving!
