5 50 YEARS OF PRIJON A remarkable paddler story 50 Jahre Years Anton Prjon was born n 1929 n Görtz, whch was part of Italy at the tme, and grew up on the Soca. As a teenager he bult hs frst boat and won the frst whte water races wth hs own constructon. He left home and n 1957 came to Rosenhem where he found work at the Klepper factory. He was welcomed nto the Kajak-Club-Rosenhem and soon became an ntegral member, today he s an honorary member of ths club. In 1958 Ton Prjon won the German Champonshp n whte water racng on the Ammer. In the year 1959 he crowned hs sportng career wth the ttle of World Champon. 1959 Ton Prjon becomes World Champon on the Vezere n France. 1981 Then the bg venture! Ton Prjon recognzes the techncal advantages of a up to then unknown process n boat buldng, the blowmoldng process and starts buldng polyethylene boats. The TAIFUN, the frst blow-moulded whte water boat of ts tme revolutonzes the market. Several years later, the HURRICANE lays the ground work for the rodeo sport of today. In the meantme both hs sons Ton and Jürgen also put ther heart and soul nto the busness. 1960s In Rosenhem he meets hs future wfe Frau Lotte. On the 2nd of Aprl 1962 he founds the Ton Prjon Sportwerkstätte. As a master carpenter he makes hs legendary wooden paddles. Wth hs treless dlgence and exceptonal techncal skll he soon establshes hmself as a name n the kayakng world. The era of foldng kayaks s over and Ton makes the most successful racng and whte water boats by hand. 1990s 1987 Ton jun. follows n hs father s footsteps and n 1987 becomes World Champon n whte water slalom on the Isere. Snce 1994 Ton Prjon jun. s runnng the famly company together wth hs wfe Rta. In 1995 the lamnatng workshop s converted nto a modern kayakng shop and brother Jürgen becomes manager there. 2000 In the year 2006 Prjon s awarded the Wrtschaftspres (prze awarded for entrepreneural achevement) of the cty of Rosenhem for hs merts. A week often conssts of 80 hours and more. At the weekend Ton s sellng hs products along the rvers. Despte all ths, he stll fnds tme for hs young wfe Lotte and the chldren Renate, Ton jun., Jürgen und Monka. In 2007 Ton Prjon sen. s honoured as a poneer of the kayakng sport and nducted nto the Internatonal Whtewater HALL OF FAME. He s the thrd German to be bestowed wth ths honour, followng the poet n the paddlng boat Herbert Rttlnger and the worldclass-kayaker Jutta Grothaus-Stegerwald. Hardly anyone has had such an mpact on the kayakng scene n 45 years. Hs ground-breakng developments n boat buldng have had a great nfluence on several generatons of paddlers. HTP s the sturdest materal used n the producton of kayaks world-wde. Whatever you are plannng, the boat s up to t. Lamnate kayaks, made of Carbon-Aramde are very lght and elegant. If low weght s mportant to you, HTP HIGH-PERFORMANCE THERMOPLAST For the producton of ts world-famous HTPkayaks, PRIJON s usng a specal PE, called HTP. Ths materal can only be used n blow-mouldng and not n roto-mouldng, as used by other producers of kayaks. The molecule chans of HTP are approxmately 10 tmes longer than those of rotated PE. Ths makes the boat hulls stffer, lghter and less susceptble to abrason. HTPkayaks have clear advantages regardng form they are the rght choce. Lamnate boats are, however, more susceptble to ground mpact and should therefore be prmarly used n freeflowng waters. PrLte kayaks are n between HTP and Lamnate wth regard to weght and sturdness.
