Charger Aquatics at Albuquerque Academy is partnering with the American Red Cross to present aquaticssafety certification courses to the greater-albuquerque community. Whether your goal is a first job as a lifeguard or you want to advance to a supervisory or management position in an aquatics facility, choose a course that s right for you! Many courses offer the convenience and flexibility of online distance learning. All courses offer ARC certification upon successful completion. About Charger Aquatics Charger Aquatics at Albuquerque Academy (CAQ) provides comprehensive, year-round aquatics programs to swimmers of all ages in the greater-albuquerque area. Located in the nationally acclaimed Barney Natatorium (the Academy s state-of-the-art indoor aquatics facility), Charger Aquatics offers membership in USA Swimming and US Masters Swimming clubs. Throughout the year, Charger Aquatics personnel offer a variety of courses to non-club members, including a variety of Red Cross certification courses and, each Summer Session, an Intro to Competitive Swimming course for children ages 9 and up. 1, Ph.D., has managed aquatic facilities and trained aquatic staff throughout her career. An American Red Cross instructor-trainer for over 10 years as well as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Intermediate), Dr. White teaches at California State University, East Bay; she earned her Ph.D. in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at University of New Mexico.

The online portion of the course includes videos, presentations, quizzes, and assignments based on the course manual; in-person water and class sessions focus on hands-on practice and skills development. Tuition includes all required training materials. Training attire: Swimsuit suitable for active learning, towel, and goggles. (Goggles cannot be used during water rescues or water-skills tests.) Students with long hair: Tie hair back or wear a cap during water sessions. Contact Wendy Baker at 858-8808 or baker@aa.edu Lifeguarding Prerequisites & Requirements 15+ years of age (show proof with registration) Complete all online course work prior to first in-person session Attend each (and the entire) in-person class session Pass swimming pretest during first in-person session: 300-yard swim (100 freestyle, 100 breast stroke, 100 free or breast) using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within one minute, 40 seconds. Want to work as Albuquerque Academy lifeguard? ARC certification from an Albuquerque Academy instructor is preferred for employment as an AA lifeguard.. We ll train you to teach Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogen Training, and Basic Water Rescue. The online portion of the course includes videos, presentations, quizzes, and assignments based on the course manuals; in-person water and class sessions feature a series of teaching assignments that will build your confidence, skills, and teaching abilities in the classroom and the pool. Tuition includes all required training materials. Training attire: Swimsuit suitable for active learning, towel, and goggles. Students with long hair: Tie hair back or wear a cap for water sessions. Prerequisites & Requirements 17+ years of age (show proof with registration) Strong lifeguarding and teaching skills Complete all online course work prior to first in-person session Attend entire in-person class sessions Pass comprehensive practical-skills tests (written and demonstrations) containing all lifeguard, CPR/AED, and first-aid skills during the first in-person class session. Certification Participants who successfully... complete all online activities; practice teaching assignments during in-person meetings; pass the final written exam...will receive an American Red Cross Instructor Authorization valid for up to two years (expires December 31 of the year after training is completed).

We ll cover inservice training methods, documentation, emergency procedures, and lifeguard scheduling and rotation. Participants who successfully complete all skill testing and written exams will receive an ARC certification (no expiration date). Tuition includes all required training materials. Prerequisites: Proof of current Lifeguarding certification (American Red Cross, Ellis and Associates, YMCA, etc.). 938-1 Aquatic Examiner Hurry space is limited! Tuition paid, minus the 30% fee, will be refunded if the Summer Session Office receives a request five business days prior to the first class/program meeting date. Full tuition will be refunded if a course is canceled. Financial Responsibility The undersigned Financially Responsible Party shall be responsible for reasonable expenses incurred by Albuquerque Academy in enforcing the terms of this Enrollment Contract including, but not limited to, attorney s fees and other expenses of collection. This Enrollment Contract shall be interpreted and enforced in accordance with the laws of New Mexico. In the event of default of any installment or other payment due under this Enrollment Contract, such payment or installment shall bear interest from the date of its maturity, until paid at a rate of 18 percent per annum.
